This collection is pretty great http://mashable.com/2015/11/25/edward-curtis-native-americans/#31BOK5L7skqM
How have I not heard about the Qagyuhl tribe? These people are fucking terrifying and awesome. Is that your brand of Injun soulfly ? I can't find a damn thing about them except pictures and a German wikipedia article.
It's really cool / creepy to walk in that wing of the Field Museum and see the massive collection of totem poles and carved wooden masks. Cool because of how much detail and work went into each individual item. Creepy because they were all in a low lit room and I was the only person walking around in it at the time.
So what is your tribe? My aunt had a blood genealogy test done the other day and we've been lied to all our life about our great great grandmother being a Cherokee. Somehow we managed to be dark skinned but 100% United Kingdom Crackers.
My grandfather is old hippie who only spends his money on Native American auctions. He has a bunch of Qagyuhl artifacts as they usually are very colorful and have the traditional PNW totem pole animal art. I believe the Seattle Seahawks logo is based off of Qagyuhl art. So much native history here in the PNW and nobody knows anything about it
The history of IBM's involvement with Hitler and the Nazis' use of IBM technology to facilitate the holocaust is pretty fascinating (and obviously horrible)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_and_the_Holocaust wow, even this quick summary is crazy. It makes a ton of sense and just the timing of how they had put off a census for years in their economic downturn, so they could use that as an excuse to have one, all while using it to identify every ethnicity or background they wanted to target. I didn't even know polling like that was how IBM got started.
Yeah, I think some have made a leap too far in acting like IBM "helped" Hitler. I don't think anyone had any idea they would use their tech to help facilitate genocide. But it is a crazy crazy story. IBM had to work hard to live that down
I remember reading that Nazis were pretty popular with American business types up until we were to enter the war
"Business relations between IBM and the Hitler regime continued uninterrupted in the face of broad international calls for an economic boycott" this kind of goes against some of that though. I think word started getting out about some of the shadiness of Hitler and his 'camps', and how they might not be just prisons. Companies started jumping ship and calling for others to do so, but IBM just followed that gravy train
That IS pretty damning and if its accurate you are 100% correct. I guess the version I have heard before is that the perception was very different from what was really going on. Not to give IBM a pass. They definitely contributed to whole situation, I just like to give people the benefit of the doubt when talking about siding with Nazis haha. That said, yeah it definitely appears they could have had some idea it was happening and chose to make money instead. Pretty terrible stuff
