Why is this the international story Americans are being scolded for not following? Honestly, how many Americans do you think know what the EU is?
Because Friday we will wake up and still have the strongest economy and military in the world and 10,000 of our own issues that we need to focus on avoiding.
I honestly have no idea how to vote. Short term, remain would be better. Long term, I think we're better off out. But it's an unknown either way.
On a serious note, does David Cameron go down as the biggest jackass in recent British history if this goes through? It's going to tear the whole EU apart if they leave with Italy, Holland, and France considering exit votes as well...
It's really not. You wouldn't believe how much European legislation interferes with our lives, from limiting the power of our light bulbs and vacuum cleaners, to how straight our bananas have to be. Here in the UK, we have a very generous social security system, which is being hugely exploited by ne'er do wells from all over the poorest parts of Europe. My worry is that it's only going to get worse, and this will be our only ever opportunity to get out.
I'm sure all of those people collecting benefits are children and handicapped like here in the US. I'm gonna need to see a study on this claim.
Shock is right, everyone. America will descend into total collapse if Britain decides to leave the EU.
why would it be so bad if the EU fell apart? in my uninformed ass' opinion the EU hasn't exactly worked out for several parties involved, namely the UK
Do you know something everyone else doesn't? Because the polls have all swung in favor of an exit. At worst, it's a dead-heat right now, but at least two polls show exit ahead... The union will come crashing down either way, IMHO.
Wake up people! It's time to take action! For a vote that's scheduled to take place in a sovereign nation on another continent across an ocean where we have zero say!
I think remain wins but by no means is it a slam dunk. Latest poll shows slight lead for the leave group: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/06/22/eu-referendum-final-day-live/ Additionally the weather is scheduled to be pretty poor tomorrow which could favor the leave group as they are likely the more passionate group and more likely to brave bad weather to go and vote.
In most cases, I agree. Europeans, in particular, are usually much more knowledgeable about the political goings on in the United States because there is an enormous impact to be felt worldwide; whereas, a typical British election means almost nothing to the United States, so we don't care. In this case, though, there will be an impact on the United States and the rest of the world determined by the people on that smug and formerly glorious island.
Do you really think that's why? You're giving us way too much credit. Americans don't care because most of us have never left the country and have no desire to.
If Shock really wants to take a stand, he should start an online petition. Those are extremely effective.
Nobody is asking you to take action. Point of the post is that this is a marginal story in the US compared to the Disney Alligator which will have zero impact on our country. Contrast with Brexit, if it goes through, it could spark a global recession. Brexit leads to Grexit which leads to Sprexit and so on. Think our fragile economy is immune to European problems? Think again, we are as global as we have ever been.
