I really need to re-read the series + Dunk and Egg + World of Ice and Fire. But I don't want to do all that and then wait a couple more years for Winds of Winter. I want to go into that with a great handle on where everyone is at. So I'm kinda in limbo before the announcement of WoW. Last night was an amazing episode. Way late in coming in this thread and posting so I'm echoing a lot of thoughts on the music, pacing, etc. But so well done.
The last place you see them is laid out in the sept. So I just figured thats what she meant. Maybe royal family was buried beneath the sept? I would have figured in the book Tywin would be sent back to Casterly Rock
One thing that sucks about amazing episodes like that is that a good/hilarious scene like Sam in the Citadel gets completely overlooked.
I'm not a fan of Sam and the whole Citadel scene seemed like a waste of time. The library looked cool, though.
He's going to find a piece of information that helps them defeat the Others. It's going to be an extremely important storyline.
Maybe it will be important, maybe it won't. Unless the dragons are somehow killed or prevented from flying, it seems like they're all that will be needed to defeat the others. Regardless, we didn't need to see 5 minutes of him interacting with the awkward receptionist. But like I said, I don't like Sam scenes or chapters in general so I'm biased to begin with.
I thought this until the Others basically walked through that ring of fire outside the Three Eyed Raven's tree. Although I completely agree that dragonfire should wipe out the others with relative ease. No way it can be that easy though. They'll probably have to use the dragons to fashion a bunch of Valyrian Steel/Dragonglass. Come to think of it, maybe that's what Sam learns at Oldtown. Him taking Heartsbane may have been foreshadowing.
I also wonder if there's a R+L=J note in the library as well whether a marriage note, birth note or something from Eddard
Yea no way it is going to be as easy as the dragons flying over and just roasting the White Walkers and their army.
I feel like the showrunners decided to do the whisper thing at Jon's birth as to not overwhelm the showfags. The show has mentioned Rhaegar only a hanful of times. Showfags are confused enough after that scene without also showing them Jon is the son of a character they've never seen on screen. They now know he's the son of Lyanna, not Ned, and showrunners can use Bran to delve more into Rhaegar next season before the big reveal Jon's a legitimate Targ and true heir to the Iron Throne.
Yep, unless people have been hardcore paying attention all that was revealed for show watchers is ?? + L = J
I'm guessing jon and his northmen are hemmed in by zombies. Fighting a losing battle. Then Dany, tyrion and another dragon rider come into save the day. It's grrms favorite trope.
The most they did to reveal Rhaegar was in the preview when Sansa and LF were talking about Lyanna in the crypts. No way they remember that part.
I like this a lot and hope it were something of this nature. As I said earlier Sam is going to end up playing some role in the endgame. Dragons won't be able to just wipe out the army because that would be way too deus ex machina. The way the books often talk about how the ways of forging valyrian steel have been lost to time seems like foreshadowing as well.
I know a couple showfags that were already down with the theory of R+L = J but no idea if they googled it or just paid that much attention to the show.
Didn't they talk about Rhaegar giving her the crown of flowers after winning the joust? Either way at most they have been mentioned together like 3 times over the course of 6 years among countless other forgettable names and it's not likely the casual observer picked up on it.
Someone who broke it down into slow motion and read her lips said his name is Aemon Targaryen. Not sure if it's true, but it makes sense.
I'd buy that too. We know another Aemon, makes sense Every Aemon we know about has made a personal sacrifice for the realm. Guess that would fit for Jon eventually
I'm not sure I agree with this; we've seen multiple times the Others simply extinguish fire with their cold maybe dragonfire will be different maybe not but i'd say there's a decent chance one of the dragons tries to burn the night's king & he simply holds out his hands & the fire dies.
In hindsight, I'm no longer upset that this season came out before WoW. It was quite upsetting a year ago when the prospect was before us, but it turns out it really wasn't that big of a deal. This season mostly dealt with shit that had already happened in some of the books (like Sam going to Old Town), shit that was never going to happen in the books due to divergence, and shit that we all knew had to happen eventually.
It wouldn't surprise me if you're right. However, a big reason the others are so terrifying is that they have a massive army of the undead that by its nature will continue to grow as they kill people who are then turned into wights. They can survive dismemberment and other wounds that would otherwise kill a man. One of the only dependable ways to kill wights is with fire. So yeah, maybe the others can stop the dragonfire from burning themselves, but I doubt they'd be able to protect their entire army. And once their army is gone, they become a lot less of a threat.
It makes a lot of sense. "Sam the Slayer." Killed an Other with Dragonglass. We know he's going to learn something in Oldtown, and we used to think it was How To Tame Your Dragon but it seems like Dany's got that down fine. Now that we've got the dragons on their way back, bet they just start forging the shit out of some Valyrian Steel and Sam becomes a war hero by arming the entire continent against certain peril. I could see Mel helping him if there's some sort of magic involved. Her role was also foreshadowed, and she's headed south with no real destination. Also wouldn't be surprised if there's some component of ice to go along with the dragon fire in the forging of the steel because of course there is.
I had completely given up on trying to see the show through a pure show watchers eyes. I didn't think I even knew any. Ran into one the other night and she was super excited to talk me about it. After listening to her thoughts I realized how big the story chasm really is between the two mediums. I knew it was large but damn. Shared my drive folder with the audio books to her this morning.
Do we know if Valerian steel or obsidian arrow heads could kill an other or does it need to be a larger piece? Some dragonnfire to handle the wights and a hail of dragon glass arrows to take out the others. I mean, they could use shields but what are those?
If You thought being a smiths apprentice was good for your shoulders you should try rowing for five years non stop. He's gone I'd guess. His book character seems to be settled in as part of the bwob so no reason to bring him back unless they do a final charge with all characters scene at the end. It would be cheezy but I wouldn't MIMD that tbqh.
Yeah, would assume in the books the white walkers got giant ice spiders. Plus wherever they show up the weather changes to a blizzard. Not to mention they will probably have bad ass ice/crystal trebuchet type stuff. Not sure how well dragons can see in blizzard conditions. Would love to see an ice dragon as well. Really hope to see Bran warg into a Dragon.
Without a wall keeping the lines separated I imagine it would be nearly impossible to fight the whites/others. Like in zombie movies, if they can get one zombie/white into a crowd of men they will spread like wildfire to the other undead. Jon/Danny wont want the dragons just nuking everyone in groups. Seems like they will need to find a way to kill the others first so that they can clean up the whites without everyone returning from the dead.
Valyrian Legos. Throw those things all over the north, and those sons of bitches won't be able to walk anywhere without wanting to die.
As cool as it was to see a ten year old make the lords of the great northern houses eat their shit, it's still not touching Greatjon's speech.
Pretty sure the first couple battles against the Others will be complete disaster for the North much like hardhomme was
In an episode filled with great moments, the Queen of Thorns telling the Sand Snakes to shut the fuck up was my favorite.
