Not quite sink or swim time for him yet, but it does feel like he needs to show well this preseason or he'll get loaned out again. Kinda surprised they loaned out Toral again. I know it was the Championship, but he seems like he could have been useful cover in the midfield with that position still being a net -2 bodies so far this summer (Arteta, Flamini, Rosicky out; Xhaka in). Wenger is probably counting on a healthier squad than we'll end up having, which is nothing new.
Toral's contract is up after this year too. I guess they really don't see a future for him at Arsenal.
El neny would probably also be considered an add. I would also think Jeff is way higher than Zelly in the pecking order.
Zelalem needs to be loaned out again, do wanna see him in preseason though. The Jeff I saw last year wasn't close to a viable option, Willock was much better.
Since I’ve missed the banter, I’ll attempt to strike some up here… Thoughts on incoming striker I hate the usual suspects: Higuain - upgrade, for sure, but he has his faults. We wouldn't pay 40M... unlikely to pay 60M Lukaku - Faster, yet considerably worse than Giroud in all other areas Morata – great touch/movement & more pace than Giroud, yet doesn’t score enough… time to develop, but don’t think he puts us over the top this season Lacazette – can play across front 3, pace to burn, but couldn’t beat out Gignac to make Euros… still the option I hate the least because of versatility. Can play wide, opposite Alexis or as a 2nd striker with Giroud. At this point, I’d prefer we forego a striker & bring in another wide option. Draxler would be ideal, but Gotze / Isco / Mahrez ... basically anyone but Theo or Ox will do What say you? Lacazette of those striker options. Draxler or Mahrez in addition to a striker is what we would do if we wanted to win. Now that I think of it, it's been strangely silent re: Mahrez leaving Leicester for anywhere. It's not like he's at the Euros but I haven't heard much of anything in the press since the end of the season.
Yeah, Lacazette is the option I hate the least, of the strikers mentioned... him plus Draxler/Mahrez would be perfect
I'd actually like Morata as a backup to Giroud. Just don't run Giroud into the ground and we'll be good to go imo.
I want nothing to do with Higuain at the price he will command. I like that Morata scores in big games but I think Lacazette would give us something different from Giroud with his pace. Not to mention Lacazette would likely cost less.
We could probably get Higuain for a lower price for Higuain considering his Copa showing and most in Argentina want him dead now.
I love Draxler. would love to bring him in and try to find an under the radar guy to play up top. Fekir was mentioned again on arsecast again this week. he's a guy coming off an injury who I'd love to see them take a shot on if the price is right. I do agree a wide man is more important though.
I don't really care about price, I just want the best option. That said, I feel Lacazette's price will allow us to still address other areas of need. While he might not have the upside of Morata, he is the more finished product, more versatile & will help us immediately. 40M for Morata as Giroud's backup is insane
I'd really like Mahrez because he can play up top and out wide to fill in for injuries or dips in form. Or Reus Or Griezmann Or I can have a three way with Scarlett Johannson and Emma Watson
Feel like there are so many wide options this summer that we'd be completely negligent to not take one
Telegraph article on Lacazette but seemed a bit wishy washy Just want a striker with pace better than Theo so Giroud isn't relied on nearly as much. I'm just praying we make a forward signing and Wenger doesn't pull his bullshit because the market is inflated.
Yeah team wide option as well. We just need some speed at this point which is crazy because we already have it, they just suck. Then in terms of creativity I'd argue we have that out wide as well with Aaron and Jack in the right but they obviously lack the speed of Theo or Alex. Again not my prevailing thoughts on the squad as I see them, just more as I think they're viewed internally. Long story short I think that translates to looking for a central only player. Love me some lacazette but Lyon will rake us. I don't think he's much of a discount if at all. I'd venture to guess he'll cost at least 35 million euros. From what I've seen in order of what I want outside EPL. Dybala Fekir Draxler Reus Gotze
Welbeck isn't gonna play next year, you can get creative at rw with the players we have but there are 2 bodies at striker and neither is consistent.
mkhitaryan going to united hurt. i realllly wanted him, and feel he would have been perfect for us imo. don't think dybala, griezmann (obviously), pea (duh), or benzema are realistic options. my big board: 1. draxler - he's amazing. not sure this needs much explanation. 2. morata - always thought he sucked at madrid, but his combination of size, speed, age, and his performances for juve lead me to believe he was just young and thrown into the fire. think £30m is a fair price for him, would go up to £35m. 3. icardi - natural goal scorer, young, mobile, might be a bit of a head case, but he is probably the best finisher we can get (outside of higuain). wouldn't go over £30m. 4. lacazette - young, black, and french. what's not to like? besides the £40m price tag though. 5. higuain - goal getter, but a little old for my liking. would still be ecstatic if we got him. if those options don't work out, i say we give alexis another shot of playing up top and we add reus
---Giroud---Alexis--- Draxler--Ozil--Ramsey ---------Xhaka-------- Or Alexis---Giroud---Lacazette ------Ozil------Ramsey--- ----------Xhaka----------
Wenger just gonna buy youth squad prospects and doubles down on playing only through the middle. Could be fun: ------Giroud------- ---Alexis----Özil--- Xhaka-Elneny/Coq-Ramsey
I don't really think anyone is over the moon about him as our striker signing. At this point, I'm just hoping for someone with speed, that doesn't suck as badly as Theo.
I'd almost be alright with that if he cleared out the dead weight. Just tired of him running out Ox, Theo and Giroud all the time. To Giroud's credit, it's obviously not his fault but he gets absolutely run into the ground. Obviously he has his limitations just gets rendered useless from overuse.
I'm the opposite I'm still a Theo apologist, but Ox is dead to me. His only contribution to the team last season were turnovers in our half, that lead to conceded goals. He should be playing for Palace or West Ham.
unfortunately the bolded is probably necessary for his development at this point. he needs to play and I doubt he gets the time he needs at Arsenal, but I still think he can be a good player if has the fitness and opportunity. Theo is a bum.
I prefer Morata followed by Higuain. I don't know how viable either are but based on speculation and Jorts opening discourse, that's where I stand. Agree with zeberdee re Ox > Theo. I have a feeling Arsene will hold onto them both which probably means no Draxler or Mahrez :/ Still want Ricardo Rodriguez despite not really showing out for Swiss in Euro. And another CB. I like Schar. I don't recall being linked with any but several of you are more in the loop.
only other CB I've seen us linked to is Rob Holding from Bolton. he's only 20 years old though so even if he's bought could see him going out on loan.
Before Brexit killed the pound sterling, the entire EPL was about to go ham in the market... We are gonna spend & spend BIG
Want Rodridguez as well but think then you need a CB even more because of how much he'd be used in the attack (him and Bellerin overlapping Draxler and Ramsey is the dream). Mustafi would be great but doubt we'd pay that much.
Arsenal blocked Iwobi from going to Brazil. At this point we will be without Ozil, Alexis, Giroud, Aaron, Kos and Draxler to start the season. Projected lineups? Nacho Per Gabriel Bell Xhaka El Neny Jack Iwobi Santi Lacazette
