Always. Happens with Wings-Lightning games too. The Michigan-Florida part time and/or transplant thing is definitely real.
If we were 3-6 against the Indians instead of 0-9, we'd be in first place. We're currently in the 2nd WC spot.

Anibal Sanchez to start against Cleveland tomorrow night.Jul 4, 2016, 5:03 PM
The whole "RH heavy line-up" thing has generally worked out for us this year, but there's no question it's killing us against Cleveland. Their RHPs have just murdered us. Salazar is the only one we've done anything against.
Finally pounded Tomlin the way he deserves. Shame Anibal pitched yesterday - he'd be perfect to turn this laugher into a save situation for Frankie.
I guess Greene can use some work, but with Molleken and Parnell in the bullpen I don't see a need to pitch him here.
clinched a winning road trip, would be nice to win 7 after winning the first 4. but not holding up much hope with Sanchize going
Ausmus will never do it, but I'd start with Greene. Have him go 2-3 innings, put Sanchez in for 2-3 innings, then just play the rest of game based on situation. Starting the game with Sanchez has a chance to get out of hand early. Where if Greene starts, offense gives us a couple runs, we could have 2-3 run lead, and a little bit of wiggle room for last 6 innings, and can get Sanchez out of game if things get ugly.
If you're going into the game knowing you're going to use Sanchez for 2-3 innings anyway, I don't understand why it matters if he starts the game or comes in relief. If he's going to give up 5 runs, I don't see why those runs would hurt us less in the 4th inning than in the 2nd.
Players may check out if we are down 5-0 after 2. Especially after long road trip, and ASB approaching
The point is more that, if you're that sure Sanchez is giving up 5 runs in 2 innings, there's really not a point of pitching him at any point in tomorrow's game.
Fun day in Toledo, apparently. Swept both games of a DH, and yet... JaCoby Jones started game one in CF and was pulled in the first game due to not running hard to first base after popping out in his first AB. Anthony Gose (remember him?) moved from RF to CF, and got into an argument with McLendon in the dugout in the 3rd inning and was pulled. Jones started at 3B in game two. Gose did not. After the game... John Wagner @jwagnerblade OK, catching you up on @MudHens news from 5/3 Field, starting w/ Gose. Mgr. McClendon would not talk about it. (1 of 2) #Tigers John Wagner @jwagnerblade But Gose's locker in the @MudHens clubhouse is empty. He was not there post-game after in-game argument w/ McClendon. (2 of 2) #Tigers
Because confidence and expectations matter, imo. Sanchez stats a game these days wondering how he's going to slop his way through 5-6, and ends up giving up 4 bombs in the the 2nd or 3rd. He seems to do better knowing he only needs to go 4-6. But it's all guesswork. Maybe if he knows he's only pitching 3, the first 3 are the same as the middle 3.
I don't think the difference is a function of his confidence level as much as Ausmus' leash with a reliever compared to a starter. If Sanchez is starting, Ausmus is the one trying to figure out a way to get him through 5-6 innings and letting him try to work through the rough spots. If he comes in relief for an inning and is getting hit, he gets pulled for someone else because that's what you do with a reliever. It's just on to the next option. In the scenario being discussed, it's on Ausmus to decide when enough is enough either way. Not sure what the difference is whether he starts or not in that regard. If you go into the game thinking you need 3+ innings from him, you're going to get what you're going to get.
87th pitch in the 4th is a 3 run bomb to make it a 5-0 game. He's throwing batting practice fastballs.
They gotta get rid of him once Zimmerman comes back. He was bad last year, and dreadful this year. He has nothing left
This game is what makes Ausmus so frustrating. He manages a pitching staff with a ridiculous 8 man bullpen like he's constantly trying to steal innings from people. Anibal sucks. You have to have a quick hook with him, but he let him give up 3 runs in the 4th. Molleken is a 31 year old career minor leaguer. He gave you 2 scoreless in a game where you're still technically in it. Tell him "thank you" and put in a fresh guy who is better. Instead, Ausmus leaves him in to create a 2-on jam that Ryan has to bail him out of. I stopped caring a while ago about managers because they all have their faults, but Ausmus is in year 3 of this and seems to have learned nothing to this point. That's frustrating.
If you drop the bar low enough there is a point where Dontrelle was below it and Anibal is still above it, but that line is probably between high A and AA.
Dontrelle's collapse makes more sense to me than Anibal's, unless there's an injury here that would explain at least some of his issues.
Anthony Gose, hitting .185 at Toledo, apparently cursed out McClendon during the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday and was pulled from the game and sent home for the rest of the day. He then didn't show up for their game on Sunday. I assume they'll release him today/tomorrow.
I'm posting this because I got the feels reading this and wanted to share the misery. Sorry. Alex Speier@alexspeier Max Scherzer on whether he ever thinks about walking Bogaerts in 7th inning of G6 of 2013 ALCS:
Disagree, because if the ump rings up Bogaerts like he should have, there's 2 outs and Iglesias doesn't have to try to turn a tough double play on the next batter. I've been sad watching playoff baseball games with this team after we lose games. Game 2 was sadness. Not sure I've ever been more angry than I was after that ump just refused to call a clear strike to ring up a Boston player in Fenway in game 6.
Game 2 blew ass. We were in Vegas staying at the MGM. Watched about the first 6 innings, Max was dealing so figured they had it. Ended up walking into Ceasars palace just as there interviewing Salty about his walk off hit. Never been so sad and confused at the same time.
