* Over the first year, assuming you apply at the right time and that first year is not free. There are more details about billing periods and application stuff in the leaked fine print.
Just got unlimited freedom card from Chase, apparently they ruled me over to it from an old card, would rather have sapphire preferred. Any way to see about getting them to switch before activating this card?
Also, its a visa infinite card which will give you a one time $100 credit on an airline booking for 2-5 people Other visa infinite cards carry automatic hotel upgrades when available as well.
sounds like a lot of people who're over the 5 new account threshold got approved.. Can't wait to apply for it.. I've already got 150K UR points waiting to be transferred
This may have already been posted, but if any of you are carrying CC balances, Chase Slate has a new card with 0 APR on balance transfers as well as 0 balance transfer fee. It truly is a completely free balance transfer.
Is this confirmed? I know its a visa infinite thing, but would love to see in writing before I apply.
Will definitely be looking into this Sapphire Reserve. I've opened 3 CC's and bought a home in the last 24 months. Had my CSP for just over a year now.
If I have the CSP and the freedom what would your advice be for me if I get the Reserve too? Got both of the two existing cards this year if it matters. Should I cancel any of them or just keep all three?
Just got my CSP in the mail yesterday. As soon as I knock out the bonus I guess I'll apply for the CSR.
I got the platinum in May when that absurd bonus hit them. Two credit cards with that steep of fee seems tough but I do use the platinum more for other purposes to begin with
Wouldn't you be better served just transferring to a travel partner? 100k hyatt points gets you 5 nights at their resort in Kauai, which is usually around $600/night. You could also transfer to Air France and be two thirds of the way to a first class ticket - I went first class on AF from JFK to Mumbai for 140k skymiles earlier this year; it was an $8k ticket on their website, so those 100k points would be worth $5,700. Korean Air had business class to Singapore and Thailand for 140-160k. You could also dump amex points into sky team programs so with an Amex gold and this CSR, you would be right there.
It all depends. Some things are better values when transferred and some aren't. Personally I don't really care about flying first class when I can save points for another big purchase
I don't want to fly first class because I won't ever go back to coach. I can't sit in bad seats at sporting events anymore because I'm spoiled and I can't afford to be spoiled with travel
Call and tell them youd like to get rid of the card with the fee and wanted one of their free cards. Get the freedom if you don't have one for the quarters with 5%
CSP considers Ubers to be travel. You think that would count toward the $300 annual travel credit on the reserve?
The points guy says yes. All travel coded items You also get a $300 annual travel credit, which — unlike the similar credits offered with cards like Citi Prestige, American Express Platinum and the refreshed Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card — can be applied to any expenses that are coded as travel, including hotels, airfare, taxis, trains and many other charges (which we’ll detail in a future post). It's all about value for points for me. 80k points to fly to Rome in coach, which would normally be $800-1200 from JFK. So two of those trips is $2400 for 160k points. Or you can spend all 160k on a 1st class ticket and get way more value out of those points ($5k-10k). Europe is so close that I'm fine going Delta Comfort+ and I feel terrible about spending points when I could just drop $1k and get the medallion miles towards status, but when you have 20+ hours of flight time to go to Asia, having a bed makes a HUGE difference in the amount of jet lag you feel. The worst use of airline points is for a domestic flight - 30-50k points for a $500 flight is such a waste. At that point, just use the points for a nice hotel, like the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen, which is $600/night around the holidays, but only 20k points. Then you can get $3,000 in value for the 100k points. *I know nothing about buying goods with points; only travel
value for me doesn't involve the price. If I'm on a flight from Chicago to Rome and my options are $1000 for coach or $5000 for first class, I'd never think about doing first class. Even if first class was 50% off and coach was 10% off, I'd still value $900 coach over $2500 first class, even though there's obviously tremendous "value" on first class. same with points
You just have to find the values. For example, I just flew to Spain. Cost me 59k ultimate rewards points, would be 48ish with the reserve. Probably costs me 100-130k points for that same flight with converted miles. Flight to Asia last year would've cost me about 57.5k poonts. That's two huge flights for 55k less points (another Asia trip) than one first class flight to Europe. Much more worth it to me
whoa - you found a round trip to asia for 57.5k? which airline? Through the portal or was that a conversion?
I agree for price, but why not just spend $900 on the flight and then use the points to get many nights at a hotel over there that would be a better $/point rate?
My use of points falls more in line with Big Apple Duck. I won't use them on coach, id rather just pay the fare and get more "value" per mile by booking first/business which is something I couldn't justifying paying full price for. Once you fly international premium cabins its hard to go back. Makes the trip part of the fun and cuts down on jet lag for me, rather than dreading the long day of travel. Can see the point from the other side though of getting more flights for your miles though. I don't think either way is right/wrong.
Every time I've gone to Asia/India, I "hit the ground running" because I was able to get quality sleep the whole way. I'm also able to come back and go straight to work the next day without being too messed up. And as you say, the anxiety/scaries that come when a long trip is wrapping up are seriously lessened when you know that you're going to fly back in business/first.
Anyone seen when the CSR apps are going live tomorrow? Is it 12:01 AM or just sometime during the day with no set time?
