Yeah the Goblet and Pheonix movies really needed two parts but that wasn't feasible in those days.

Really the whole series needs a 7-season, 10-episode per season BBC (or Netflix) version.

I love OOTP significantly more than most people. Probably because my first wait for an HP book was for OOTP.

Although I would love a properly done BBC version of HP, I don't think I can mentally get over someone else other than Emma Watson :lovelove: playing Hermione.

Goblet was my first wait too. I was 11 and my parents bought me the first three books before going to Disney world and I knocked them out waiting in lines with the quickness.

At one point I was tasked with watching my 5 year old sister and let her wonder off and get lost in the magic kingdom while my nose was in a book

Announced yesterday, nbc universal bought the network broadcasting rights to the entire Harry Potter series starting in 2018.

Films will primarily be aired on USA and SyFy. Not happy. Doubt they movies will air Nearly as much as they did on abc family/freeform.

They have gotten borderline unwatchable on Freeform. The commercials are every five minutes. It's like sitting down to watch Titanic on TNT.

I agree with you there. I use the freeform marathons to encourage me to pull out my own copies of the movie and watch

One of the brilliant things about the series is that you always have holiday chapters/scenes and winter so it makes them almost perfect Christmas movies/books on top of everything else.

This year has been really good for die-hard Harry Potter fans with both the new ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘ book being released, the play featuring the same namebeing performed in London and the thrilling new adventure movie ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘ premiering later this fall. Yesterday author J.K. Rowling made fans even happier when she announced that she is going to release three new ‘Harry Potter’ eBooks next month.
On the website Pottermore.com the author announced the three new e-books called ‘Pottermore Presents’ which will be released on September 6th. The individual titles will be “Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide”; “Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Political and Pesky Poltergeists”; and “Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies.” The short stories will further explore the universe of Harry Potter and according to the website dig deep into the Harry Potter stories, with titbits taken from Pottermore’s archives and original writing from J.K. Rowling.”
You can already pre-order the three titles!
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists (Pottermore Presents)

These stories of power, politics and pesky poltergeists give you a glimpse into the darker side of the wizarding world, revealing the ruthless roots of Professor Umbridge, the lowdown on the Ministers for Magic and the history of the wizarding prison Azkaban. You will also delve deeper into Horace Slughorn’s early years as Potions master at Hogwarts – and his acquaintance with one Tom Marvolo Riddle.
Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (Pottermore Presents)

These stories of heroism, hardship and dangerous hobbies profile two of the Harry Potter stories’ most courageous and iconic characters: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. J.K. Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney’s life, and you’ll encounter the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.

Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (Pottermore Presents)

“Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide” takes you on a journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You’ll venture into the Hogwarts grounds, become better acquainted with its more permanent residents, learn more about lessons and discover secrets of the castle . . . all at the turn of a page.

Finished Half Blood Prince tonight. Two weeks from the date of this previous post, that's a really fast read for me. Didn't care much about all the relationship stuff going on but was really fascinated with everything else. The idea of the Horcruxes is incredible and although I knew Dumbledore was going to get got at the end it still was out of my mind with everything else going on leading up to it. Finally realized it was happening sooner than I thought and those last few chapters were doozies

Probably my favorite book. Really interested to see how quick you read Deathly Hallows. That one I flew through.

Even on rereads I want to go slow and really take the book in but then I fly through them

Ha yeah, even consciously trying to slow down and read smaller chunks each night on my re-read, I basically read like half a book each night until late, as if I didn't know what was going to happen in the plot.

She's just an amazingly talented writer.

HBP is my favorite fiction book ever. Not just Harry Potter, but all of fiction.

Everything I wanted out of that book and things I didn't even know I wanted, it delivered. It's the only book in the series that I could pick up today and knock out in a couple reads without feeling compelled to read the others for completions-sake.

The movie was mediocre, but that book was magic (pardon the pun).

The movie is GREAT if you don't compare it to the book. Unfortunately, they couldn't fit everything into the movie AND had to cut one of the best things in the series (Voldemort's backstory). One of the most low key awesome chapters in the book is Voldemort's return to Hogwarts and his meeting with Dumbledore. I would read a thousand page conversation between them.

    As for the movie-

-The final scene between Potter and Slughorn is one of the finest cinematic moments in the series. Everything from the moment Harry uses Felix through to the end in the movie is done exceptionally well. I mean, they did "The Cave" PERFECTLY.

That's one example of an adaptation being punished in comparison to the truly exemplary quality of its source. But, IMO, it's amazing.

My biggest problems with the movie revolved not around what they cut (although I would have preferred more pensieve) but the unnecessary stuff they added and the minor changes they made. I really hated their interpretation of Dumbledores death scene too.

Also I will never get over just how terrible a casting choice a Michael Gambon was.

Yeah, I bet it would be hard to cast an actor for 7 (or 8, whatever) movies spread out over a decade when the source material describes the character as, quote, "old af, two feet in the casket looking, scraggly wizard." Unquote.

This one was a first for me. I'm a really slow reader so when I'm just hanging out at home or something reading is typically low on the list of things I'd choose to do, but I couldn't get enough. I bring the book to work with me and read at lunch and try and get in another chapter during the day if I'm really slow too. I read the chapter during work yesterday when Dumbledore calls Harry to his office because he thinks he found another Horcrux and then it ended with them Apparating to the cave and I couldn't wait to get home. Didn't expect to finish the whole thing but I'm glad I did

First time I read HBP I got to the Sectumsempra chapter at like 11pm, but JKR did such a great job (especially in that book) of teasing the next chapter with the final line of the previous that I just kept reading and kept reading. I didn't stop until I finished at like 2am.

Only other time that happened was reading Gone Girl; I planned to quit halfway through then discovered the secret and was so blown away I didn't stop till I was done at like 4am.

JK needs to hire some folks and develop a story group like Lucasfilm. I'd love to see the universe expanded like Star Wars through other books and an animated series outside of the main Harry Potter timeline.
