I did Zion this past October... I'm actually wearing a Zion shirt as we speak. Do Observation Point. No question.
Perfect. I was hot wearing the long sleeves, but it was like 73ish. Btw, this is the top of Observation Point.
Well I made it back from Europe in one piece. I had such an awesome time. This trip far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Copenhagen, Berlin, Prague, and Iceland. Not so much Amsterdam. I'll get a write up done once I catch up on much needed sleep.
There's a flight from DC to Helsinki in August for $421. Really want to jump on it as I haven't been, and Talinn is really high on my list. That'd be a great opportunity to knock both of those off. With extra time, Riga, Vilnius, and Minsk could be visited as well. I only really know what I've heard about Helsinki and Talinn. Everyone says Talinn is the bees knees and Helsinki is only alright. Has anyone else heard much about any of these places?
Watched the first 10 minutes of this and plan to finish it later. The logistics of long haul flights is really interesting to me
Flying from Atlanta to Shenzhen in July. Delta too expensive for the company so they're looking at some of their partner airlines. Anybody have any yays or nays regarding delta's international partners?
Phuket is 100% our best option for camps, followed by Chiang Mai. This is per my old coach and current coach, both of whom have lived there to train and traveled back for camps. Chaing Mai is a good close second. I personally have never been so I cannot speak to preference, but sounds like Bangkok isn't the best spot.
off the top of my head I think they're partners with China Eastern, correct? Never flown them but I have heard good things and I know their Business Class service is nice.
Yep, China Eastern and China Southern. Unfortunately, most of their partners like Virgin don't fly the route I need.
If Australia is just for fun and not for training, I implore you to not miss out on New Zealand. It'd be a crime to spend 2-4 weeks in Australia and miss NZ entirely. Queenstown might be the single coolest place I've ever been.
The aussies and kiwis were the best two groups of travelers I met in Europe. I hope to get to both countries someday.
Queenstown is at the top of my list of cities I've visited during my 20+ country trip since January. Sad that I didn't get to spend more time in New Zealand though.
Domestic summer travel is coming together. Booked a flight to Boston for weekend of August 25th. New Orleans for a bachelor party in July. Hopefully Seattle and maybe Portland over Labor Day. Going to get back up to Nashville at some point but that may be into fall.
I leave for South America in 10 days. My Amazon account (no pun intended) has been on buy new everything the last couple of weeks.
Delta too expensive so we're flying Korean Air to a China next month. They're technically a partner airline, but the difference in ticket price and bonus rules means roughly 35K skymiles instead of 70K. Sucks
I am excited to check out the plane as I've heard good things, especially in business class, just bummed at the halving of the sky miles. Just a month or two ago, Delta and Korean Air announced their new partnership agreement and most thought it would bump them from the lowest partner class to near the top. The new flights started this month but the class hasn't been upgraded as of yet. Fingers crossed it happens in the next month.
For those that have done it, how does Korean Air's business class compare to Delta One? Do they have the lay flat bed seats like Delta?
All Korean business class should be flat beds on anything long haul, but depending on the plane they could be their new or old b class seats. The newer ones are more like suites and are supposed to be some of the top business class seats in the world but the older ones still look to be adequate and on par with middle of the road b class product. Generally speaking, any major foreign carrier is going to have a superior product to any of the US based airlines. I'm Flying Korean b class in 3 weeks, in the new suites seats from LAX to Seoul, and the older seats from Seoul to Bali so I can give more feedback after that.
I went to both last summer. I actually really liked Helsinki. I liked it better than Oslo or Stockholm but its behind Copenhagen for me. Tallinn was awesome as well and a super easy ferry ride away. Make sure to go to Tallinn on a weekend though. We were there mid week and it was still fun but its supposed to get nuts on the weekends. It reminded me a little of prague but the partying is better.
Thanks man.... I didn't know we had any Tallinn vets here. Did you go anywhere else in the vicinity? Minsk? Vilinius? etc
The trip was Helsinki, Tallinn, and Stockholm. Basically I was in the same boat as you, always wanted to go to Tallinn and found an insane deal to Helsinki ($1200 rt Business class from LAX) so figured why not? Tallinn delivered on everything I hoped, Helsinki was a pleasant surprise, and Stockholm was cool but probably fell a bit below my (admittedly) high expectations. Doing world cup next year and depending on the draw, if we have time, are looking at side trips of maybe Riga, or Moldova since I have a buddy living there. Also looking at Georgia/Armenia, but again depends on the US draw and what games we'll be going to and what time we'd have.
Definitely let me know how it is. I'm flying Atlanta to Seoul, overnight layover, then Shenzhen. My only experience with Delta business class on international flights was Delta One with the individual pods and lay flat bed, which was just amazing. If this is better than that, I'll be pretty happy.

i want a job where i get to be upset about not earning as many frequent flier miles as i would like on a business class trip to asia :(
Arkadin if you still have it could you repost the link to the place where you stayed in Costa Rica? I have my boss convinced that it's the best place for our next team meeting/retreat; he just has to convince the CFO. Last year we did a 14-bedroom place in Palm Springs that used to be owned by Sylvester Stallone and it was awesome. The Costa Rica place was like a third of the price if I remember correctly, but the optics of having a meeting in Costa Rica are harder to justify.
Is it worth rising rain by going to Costa Rica over Thanksgiving? I got burned by the end of the rainy season in Thailand but it's so so inexpensive I want to try it
thailands rainy season ends in october. you were getting shitty weather from the beginning of december all through new years. though it does vary slightly be region, i think december is rainy for samui
So heading to Colombia solo now. People at my office are acting like it's a death sentence. My office manager even suggested I invite Cherno Alpha to join. Think she's worried about cocaine trafficking for some reason. Iron Mickey
