I look at the 2013 season as evidence that it doesn't really matter what we do or who we schedule. We played Penn State (W), #8 Louisville (W), and #12 USC (lost by a FG). We went 11-1, and we didn't even crack the Top 15 going into the bowl season. There was literally zero discussion of us as BCS championship option, which I don't necessarily argue was wrong, but still...we played good teams. There were seven 2 loss teams ahead of us and one 3 loss team. There was one undefeated team that year (FSU). We beat #6 Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl, and they still only put us at #10 in the AP (#12 in Coaches). You can't tell me that scoring 4 more points and beating USC would have been the difference between us being #15 and being in the top 4.
Marc Daniels asked rhetorically on his show today how many 2 for 1 offers, like real offers with a contract, DW has received while he has been here. The answer is zero. So it’s not like DW is turning down these scheduling offers and it’s not like schools aren’t offering us because of DW’s stance because they weren’t offering us before he said it anyway. So being told to just take 2 for 1s is a farce because no one is offering it to us to be turned down to begin with The UF thing is a joke anyway because its treated like DW tore up a contract but it was never actually an offer, it was an off hand remark in a press conferences and a couple emails back and for between the Florida AD and DW
That’s our entire point. It doesn’t matter what we do. They’ll find a way to overlook us regardless. May as well make the money we need, play mid tier P5 teams, and win games.
I’ve always thought that it would be cool to have a scheduling period every offseason for everyone to fill their schedules for the upcoming season instead of scheduling so many years in advance. It would generate headlines during the offseason and schools can actually schedule for their current needs and talent level
Any of you guys in NYC or will be there for the US Open? I have some tickets available if interested. Grounds passes (any day) Women's semi-final (upper deck) Women's final (upper deck)
So we got a converted BBall player last year and now have 2 committed in the past 2 days? Is this a new strategy across the country or just a our staff thing?
Apparently according to Stewart Mandel we should schedule unlimited games at UF with no promise of return for exposure. We scheduled a football game and the media shit themselves. I don’t think exposure is our problem.
Good talent, always hurt. Was crazy good for IMG then got hurt his senior year and can't remember him being anything but injured for us. Maybe he played in a spring game, can't really remember.
Had no idea you guys were playing in Boca this year until I randomly looked at your schedule. Wife will probably want to go since it’s local, anyone planning on attending?
Thought about it but spending my birthday around my girlfriend's crazy family isn't what I want to do.
G5 teams are punished much further for losing a single player. Granted there's some truth to that Top 25-worthy P5 teams should have more depth from recruiting. But we lose a QB and it's right back down we go, apparently. We aren't allowed to be given benefit of the doubt for new talent the way other teams are just because of their name. A lot of P5 teams benefit from unproven player hype where we are only published by it. Whatever
I wonder what ND was ranked to start last season with the same presumptive starter. Anyone else starting to get a vibe that Gabriel might win the job? Heup was praising him big time in the presser yesterday.
Brandon RTed something that DG was talking about being ready if his number is called. I think it's starting to look that way from the what's being covered. Wimbush said yesterday the competition was heating up too.
Dunno. But props to the coaches for not elevating Miami just because they play Florida week 1 and new coach hype. Actually unranked. We're the only G5 ranked team, of course. Nebraska (!) 26.
Imagine if we went undefeated with a true freshman QB. Twitter and the national media heads would explode.
11th.... Nd doesn’t get a lot of sympathy either, especially in the coaches poll. Nd is ranked behind Michigan in every poll....
DG is going to be a star for us but if he is starting games this year then we are in trouble. He can say he is ready and he can even look like it but there is no overlooking the jump up in game speed and size between HS and college. That’s something that you can only learn with some experience; you have to wait for the game to slow down before you can play to your potential. The difference between KZ year 1 and year 2 is a perfect example
I'd like to see him play 3-4 games so he can still redshirt. I'd basically play backups after the first half vs UConn with Cincy the next week on a short week.
True Freshman qbs won the last 2 championship games. Milton had no line and a lot less talent around him when he was a freshman.
Stanford is ranked. Interesting. When be beat that ass are we going to get credit for a good win or is it going to be just like every other year where losing to us means you're not good so we're locked out of quality wins?
To be honest Stanford should not try very hard vs us. They are playing us between USC and Oregon and those games do mean a ton more to them. Either way I think we roll them with the insane heat and humidity I'm sure we will have that day. Gonna be a lot of cramps.
Going to be fun to see us beat them and then fly to California and watch Oregon beat them the next week
As long as we both stay ranked going into our matchup, I would bet that we get gameday back on campus. We’ll most likely be the only ranked vs ranked matchup that week
Both of these things are true but that’s still the exception rather than the rule. we were lucky enough to get a veteran QB for a year while KZ is out. A QB that has been in real game situations. i’d rather see him out there while DG takes reps and gets accustomed to the college game. If DG is starting than that means Wimbush probably shit the bed and our season is going to end with us in the Boca bowl
You can call them exceptions but before recently this never happened. Even Heisman winners are now regularly younger. The rules of the sport has opened the opportunity for these guys to have immediate impacts and you're going to see more of if, not less.
Congrats on this being the year people finally start to maybe care about Nebraska again. Probably not but never give up hope!
Random fan comes in here and makes a weird comment out of the blue UCf fan says a comeback Random fan why are you guys so sensitive?
I mean I accused bama of letting their players hotbox on the field in their thread and all I got were likes. Tbh I like UCF. Always have. Was born in Orlando. Parents are back living there now. I almost went to UCF. I like the program not the Napoleon syndrome fans
Do you 2 weirdos not see that it's weird for you guys to randomly come in our thread to talk shit? Like we should just be like cool man you guys are right we suck! I literally just responded to a weird shit talk with a rebuttal of factual shit talk(like I do to pretty much anyone in real life) and now we are the defensive napoleon complex fans? Nebraska hasn't even been a topic of this thread in ages. We literally do not give a shit about you. We already have one Boom Mfer doing enough weird shit in this thread.
People come in our thread all the time. I guess you guys are better off left conversing with the other aac fans on the board
