Interesting how most corporations have these people who sit atop them who make the most money while bringing little to nothing of value to it.
“It’s very disturbing to me. We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said. Disney’s boomerang CEO Bob Iger to receive $27 million annually Get absolutely fucked. It blows my mind people like this can say this with a straight face. But hey that’s why they make the big bucks, being a callous piece of shit.
Studios are losing so much money to the point where they will be even more ruthless….especially with AI stuff
I know how they can save millions!!! cut this assholes pay. I should have been a consultant dot cat dot jpeg
when share price / profit bargain is the only thing that matters, everything gets worse for 99% of the people.
People like these assholes are ruining everything. For instance movies don't get made unless these fuckwads think it will make them a lot of money and it's killing the industry
It stifles creativity, too. There are formulas for productions to be greenlit. Anything that strays outside of the formula parameters is too risky, and will either fall from consideration, or be altered to the point that the original script/concept is barely even the same.
that's a bit convoluted it depends on if any of the actors are in SAG and typically they will shoot stuff without them as a way of not wasting their time and since it's being shot in hungary there might be a lot of locals/exposition stuff they can shoot without them but also this is day one, things can change over a few days and they realize that they cant actually shoot what they want
These studios pivot to original scripted content on streaming has been an absolute disaster as well. Fucking Rupert Murdoch made out like a bandit selling the Fox shit when he did.
Like who is on the CEOs side in this? Writers, actors, stuntmen, etc... that actually produce something vs these fuckos.
and for the bootlickers decrying Ron's perceived threats there... make no mistake, telling people they're going to make them lose their houses before they bargain again is a form of violence. It's obviously not to the level of the Italian Hall Disaster of 1913 or something, but it's the same type of corporate paternalistic greed driven bullshit.
I genuinely dont think they do, which is the problem. Sure, right now today the "bottom line" is better, but by having a strike last as long as this will it's going to fuck their release calendar which in turn reduces revenue/profits and the stock price.
Ron has enough money I don’t think he’s going to starve even if he’s blacklisted, but he might legit be at risk of black list after this and is speaking on behalf of those with less means imo
Wasn’t expecting a huge number, but this number was smaller than I expected based off how much money their work brings in.
That tweet is worded differently than the story. The story words those numbers in this way... “With the sides remaining far apart, we estimate an agreement increasing compensation under new collective bargaining agreements will ultimately cost Moody’s-rated companies an additional $450 million to $600 million a year for each year of a new three-year contract for all three guilds (DGA, WGA and SAG-AFTRA),” Begley wrote. “There is great play in these estimates, and some of this increased cost, particularly for television production, is likely to be passed on to buyers.”
That's not a defense of any of the studios or companies here. Just weird that the tweet makes it seem like the $450-600M is the sum of everything they'd owe at the end, as opposed to the article saying it's $450-600M in new money they'd be adding.
Streaming, thus far, has basically enabled companies to claim that they don’t have to pay out residuals for the viewing #s, since the streaming medium has not been out long enough to be part of the contracts. This “new money” is actually just equal to what they used to pay out, before the streaming loophole.
These people striking better hope TV execs don’t go all in on unscripted content. If they have enough of them that turn into hits, they’ll just hold out until they get everything they want.
So I guess they wanted to do this to Jet Li back in the day with the Matrix so he turned down the role. https://screenrant.com/jet-li-matrix-sequels-role-why/
Pretty funny tho they know it’s not going to stop the picketers; it’s just a fuck you move my ethos requires I respect that level of petty
It would be cool if the writers burned the studios to the ground. remember striking is the common ground in negotiations.
