Going all the way back the the nexus 5 and currently on the p7pro, the only repeat issue I've ever had is MMS messages not downloading.
Has anyone dealt with getting a screen replacement for a pixel? My p7p broke two days ago and I have a new coming today but I want to fix the old one and sell it.
Saw this in a NYT article. Conformists Over the past five years, the iPhone has increased its percentage of total smartphones sold around the world while expanding its share of sales in four of the world’s largest regions: China, Japan, Europe and India. In the United States, the iPhone’s largest market, the device now accounts for more than 50 percent of smartphones sold, up from 41 percent in 2018, according to Counterpoint Research, a technology firm. The gains have helped it claim about a fifth of the world’s smartphone sales, up from a low of 13 percent in 2019. In the United States, the iPhone’s popularity is expected to widen in the years ahead. Nearly 90 percent of teenagers own an iPhone, according to Piper Sandler, an investment bank.
This sucks because eventually it will be the only option. I hate ios so much, but eventually it may be all we have.
Yeah, I don't have a problem with iPhone, but I think I'm the only person in my family with Android. I'm not switching anytime soon as long as Google doesn't fuck up the Pixel line of phones.
You're very wrong on that. The whole green bubble/blue bubble thing is real. Somehow Apple made it a status symbol. Weird as shit to me but it is what it is. Every year they release a new phone and it's just a "Hey we're finally adding what Samsung had 3 years ago" and people lose their minds over it.
My 6 Pro would lose signal going into the lobby or parking deck of my apt and then not get it back when I got upstairs or outside. I'd have to do airplane mode on/off to get it back. My 7 Pro hasn't had that issue and even sometimes will get signal in the lobby. I think they're still a generation old on modem for it, but my experience has been markedly better on the 7 fwiw.
My 6a has had weird data connection issues the last month or so. Wondered why it wasn't switching between networks. Well, then I looked up Fi and realized, yeah, that hasn't happened since early 2023. So much for FiSwitch, etc. When the data thing happens, it loses it, then you have to restart. Fine after that. Very weird.
Yeah, oddly I missed all that. They (Fi) also dropped the agreement with US Cellular, which was the third carrier. Fi *very occasionally* went to Verizon on roam, not sure if that's still happening.
Verizon had the roaming agreement with US Cellular which is why it was added. With US Cellular gone, so is the Verizon roaming I have gotten on ATT before with roaming but I almost never have an issue.
I pretty much stopped listening to music via headphones a few years ago because of some inner ear issues. But wow just got a 40% off Pixel Buds promotional email that I might just have to take advantage of
cannot decide re pros at 120 or a-series at 60. both are tempting. edit: I dislike earbuds as a product this early in their development (too immature, battery life particularly egregious) but I have $200 to spend on the Google Store that expires soon.
Hate buds in general, but both sets I've gotten for free from Google have been solid. Sounds like we're getting a free Pixel Watch 2 with an 8 pro. Not sure what I'm doing yet, depends on trade-in values. With the 14 Beta, my 7 pro is finally (sigh) to the point of not overheating when I'm doing too much at once.
Might consider doing the 1 year upgrade again. It was less than $200 out of pocket and has absolutely worth it for the photos of our kids as they've gone from newborn > toddlers with all the lenses and modes. The cameras are already stupid good but on paper this year could be a notable leap from P7P > P8P. Need to see the samples and which 8P camera features cascade down.
Only getting $420 and $300 offers for my P7P 256G from Google and Best Buy, respectively. Definitely not ordering an 8P anytime soon. The Best Buy offer is now $550
Scratch that, wasn't logged in. $400 off for existing Fi customers (note: buying this way does not get you the free watch/buds). Now I'm in I think. just kidding...my trade-in value while logged in drops from $420 to $249. Jfc.
phone is an incremental upgrade, though some of the feature drops sound like it could really be a nice uplift. price, promo/offers are meh. didn't see camera samples to impress me. 7 years of OS upgrades is noble but overdue.
Yeah and not even the frugalist of people are keeping their phones for 7 years at this point. Helps with resell value a little, but that's it.
I'll probably upgrade because I accidentally put my phone in my pocket where there was already a screwdriver residing. Giant ass scratch the whole length of my screen But I'll wait for a black Friday deal. They always go on sale and the pre order crowd gets pissed
Don't do it. Just had my 6a screen replaced yesterday at UBreakIFix. The guy told me they see them all the time for stupid stuff, and that it's a disaster. Had to go back to my wife's old 3a XL for the day while they were working on it. Holy shit was that slow compared to the newer Pixels.
I enjoy reading the technical details - Reviewers and SME on reddit etc will be releasing a lot more. Here is the surface level 7P vs 8P 8P loses a couple pixels of resolution in each direction for ~23 fewer ppi makes sense b/c 8p is a few tenths of mm smaller 8P gains roughly 900 nits of max brightness (1500 vs 2400) and almost as much in regular conditions (1000>1600) slightly more capable smooth display nice bump in charging speed from 23>30w temperature sensor - would be clutch if FDA approves this as valid for humans. adds WiFi 7 BT 5.2 > 5.3, which does include some really cool uses. a few changes to the cellular bands, some gained, some lost. I see a couple net extra under the Sub-6 bands on 5g. generation bump on the front + rear gorilla glass products...Victus > Victus 2. dont know what it is functionally but RAM subtype now has an X on it. less than 1% larger battery camera - hardware only. Main camera better aperture going from f/1.85>f/1.68 massive jump on UW 12 MP > 48 MP same FOV essentially smaller pixels big jump from f/2.2 > f/1.95 zoom f/3.5 > f/2.8 a touch different fov. EIS+OIS on telephoto now front camera AF My main takeaway will be whatever camera features descend to 7pro, many of these are not even launching with the 8, but rather coming soon. Pro Controls Best Take Audio Magic Eraser Night Site Video "High resolution photography" Magic Editor "Ultra HDR" "Astrophotography" "Video Boost"
Alright so I went with google store instead of Fi because of trade in value on the 7p P8P 1tb 1400 Trade in P7P -420 Free pixel watch 2 LTE (50 for LTE instead of Wifi) and I have google one so I got 140$ in store credit I will use to buy the new Google buds pro (I love my old pros but I'm a feature whore so I want the conversation detection) only thing I can't figure out how to maximize is trade in my pixel watch for 150 credit (I have to buy another watch to be able to do it)
Small favor: can someone give me a link to a charging block (can include cable) that's definitely going to be fast charge for a 6a? My old computer had a USB-C that was fast charge, but new one doesn't. The block I have that says it's fast charge isn't. I'm cheap, so I want to pay as little as possible. I have two of these Belkins that are great () just curious if there's something better. Thx.
pretty hard to beat what you have linked unless you want to buy a charger that also charges a tablet or laptop at a reasonable speed. most modern computers should fast charge your 6a at 18w or very close to it over its best usb-c port.
