Really surprised they didn’t order a ceasefire. Israel would not have complied, but they should have.
Haven’t read the opinion but it’s not surprising to me - there’s no legal grounds for that relief. The decision (at least from the summary I saw) is nothing other than telling the parties to follow International Humanitarian Law.
Big shock the bigot doesn’t say a thing about the multiple videos of Palestinians waving white flags being shot by IDF. Even the IDF doesn’t deny what CNN is reporting but our local genocide supporter sure likes to ignore it.
so did UN members actually participate or is Israel just saying they did? all i’m seeing is “israeli reports” and “israel claims” which are completely useless statements.
Agree you can’t just accept Israeli accounts, but the fact that the UNRWA issued a press release that they had been fired seems to point to it being accurate.
Here's Jon Fetterman last night night in one of those oversized cowboy hats and a "Israel is #1" foam finger
Everything about John Fetterman makes more sense when you realize that first and foremost, he’s a troll.
i don’t agree with that at all. immediately firing the accused in hopes that the major countries giving you money continue to do so seems logical to me. public/political pressure gets people fired all the time, regardless of their culpability. i’m sure israel will really dig into the situation and provide a fair and balanced investigation with zero fabricated evidence
That doesn’t seem consistent with how the UNRWA has handled past Israeli criticism. Israel throws false allegations at them all the time. I’d be interested if they’ve ever fired someone as a result of those accusations before. It’s possible, but I haven’t seen it.
I mean, if the allegations are true re UNRWA, it's obviously fucked up and serious... but then you have to ask what it's being used to justify. Does it justify bombing every hospital? Bombing refugees gathered at UN camps? Killing children? Using phosphorus (or thermite) on civilians? Holding back food and medical aid for starving people who are forced to perform amputations and c-sections without anesthesia?
Either Israel is firing bullets out of a catapult or someone is storing weapons I a hospital. I wonder which one it is
We've been here in the Middle East thread for years and know how literally every side sucks in this stuff. This conflict in particular has ramped up US citizens choosing sides in awful ways that ignore so much. We've also seen some of the worst and disingenous "activism" that accomplishes absolutely nothing but internet likes. It's just all verying degrees of terrible and the working class citizens suffer.
Yup, I went in and out of there about 6 times in 2018. Probably something big and visual and pointless.
Right. As long as the settlements are zoned with correct parking and meet HOA requirements, they're a-ok with the Israeli government.
see, Illini is posting that misleading article, knowing full well half of Bibi's cabinet ministers were dancing around at a "settlement" conference yesterday, and signed a “Covenant Of Victory And Renewal Of Settlement” for the Gaza, which calls for the forced "emigration" of the current populace and Israeli resettlement
far right party says crazy far right things, I’m shocked. Likud is going to take major losses next election cycle. This is like someone watching American politics and taking eveything the freedom caucus says as proof of what the American people feel
You’re awfully apologetic to an Israeli governing party while not offering the same sentiments to Palestinians, despite this conflict being partaken by a group that is not an official Palestinian governing party
Israel has these fake ass elections every few years and the far right stays in power. I'd wager they're more powerful than ever in that country. But OK, next time will be different.
so Iranians are trafficking a bunch of drugs into the US and the Angels move a lot of drugs once they're here, hence the connection. Crazy.
Sadly, it appears to be an unlawfully conducted raid that is nonetheless being celebrated by Israeli leadership “I congratulate and strengthen the naval commando forces of the Israeli police on their impressive operation last night in cooperation with the IDF and the Shin Bet in the Jenin refugee camp, which led to the elimination of three terrorists,” Ben Gvir said alongside the video on X.
i saw another headline about the unrwa accusations and it perfectly highlights the absurdity and hypocrisy (and racism) of the situation to me: we suspended aide to the group because of accusations that a dozen or so members were part of Hamas but have no problem letting our money maim, burn and crush infants as entire apartment buildings are leveled and whole family lines are ended arewethebaddies.gif
anytime someone is on the side of baby murder it’s hard to take anything else that person says with any kind of credibility
No, it's not the same. (1) As much as I hate the Freedom Caucus, its not remotely comparable to Ben Gvir and his ilk. The guy is an admitted apologist for terrorism and the massacre of civilians; (2) The House Freedom Caucus is actually despised by the GOP House Leadership. Netenyahu brought Gvir, and the others, into his cabinet. He helped broker deals with minor parties to try and help get them into the Knesset the last few elections; (3) Due to conflicts with so many other Parties, it's difficult to be able to see Netenyahu ever be able to form another government without Otzma Yehudit. So these are people that he will have to give concessions to in order to ever be in government, and Netenyahu's sole aim in life is to stay in government and out of prison. The Freedom Caucus is a sideshow. They don't actually accomplish anything and really their only purpose is gridlock. Ben Gvir/OY are exercising power and will be determined to see returns. Anything that say should be taken much more seriously.
Almost like Israel is many orders of magnitude more evil and still get the benefit of the doubt among their allies as being the good guys.
Hi genocider denier and evil human being! How many civilians has Hamas killed vs how many has the IDF killed?
The quote I pulled was from the front page article CNN and it’s also prominently placed on WaPo’s website. The screen capture is from BBC so I’m not exactly buying the “western media doesn’t want you to know this” part.
im sorry Hamas isn’t better at killing civilians despite all of their attempts, I know it bums you out
