its sounds like you may be breaking bad...be weary of assistants who used to work for the Baltimore Sun, they may replace you one day
Super, you are quite diligent with your brew. I, on the other hand, should be. My ADD forces me to drink coffee daily, but I just fuck w/ this thing:
Mi madre bought me one of those single cup coffee makers, a pretty nice one. Ive spent a stupid amount of money trying to find the flavor I like best if that counts. Btw, I found two that I keep in a steady rotation that Im very happy with
Oops, I've been a big fan of your posts but I just not noticed that you have Cheerwine in your "Fan of" section. You are now God-Tier in my opinion. Continue on, Rwandan Royalty.
here's the rwandan i drink. http://keancoffee.com/CoffeeDetail.aspx?CoffeeId=71 -- these guys are into a big african kick right now. i just polished off the rest of my Burundi today. i'm cool with the african coffees -- but sometimes they are too earthy and syrupy for me. h.e.pennypacker -- I don't have an espresso machine yet. but that thing gave me a semi. i am scared if I get one god will come out of the core of the earth and fucking blow my ass up for taunting him with my homebrewed machiattos and he'd fucking shit on california.
That stuff gets higher ratings than Starbucks and stuff on taste tests all the time. I think it's the best mid-low end coffee out there from what I've heard
i don't. sometimes i go to coffeegeek.com to check weight vs water ratios but otherwise i don't. if you're on 17th street in newport hit the kean there and pick up a pound of their exclusive Kona. It's great.
I'll start caring more about beans once I get an espresso maker. I drink espresso straight, but :gays: up coffee... so the beans are a little less important. I use Eight O'Clock beans, a burr grinder, filtered water, an electric water kettle, and a simple manual pour-over coffee filter (easier to keep very clean).
SO looking at the Grinds on the kean coffee site, what is the difference between an espresso, french press, cone drop and flat bottom grinds?
Thanks for the heads up. I don't profess to be a coffee snob, but I do like to know the differences (similiar to wine drinking). I must admit, my knowledge is limited to stuff gained from random articles and the variations at Starbucks. I know, I'm an amateur. I don't know if I'm biased being Hawaiian, and having lived there, but for me, I still go back to Kona coffee as my favorite. Colombian/Honduran/Guatemalan/Panamanian coffees are good as well, but I still prefer the Kona. Same with the Afican coffees, as many are too strong for my taste. And the Indonesian/Sumatra has too much of a "bite" for my liking. I'm just curious, in the "coffee snob" world, is Kona coffee considered low status, or can it be ranked up there with the other great coffees? I'm open to trying new coffees, but in the end, I always go back to drinking Kona, because for me, it's the smoothest for my tase buds. Maybe you can predict what my preferences would be. At Starbucks, my hands down favorite brew is the Yukon blend. I actually buy a bag to take home from time to time. Sumatra and the other blends, often times are too strong/bitter for my liking. One more thing, ever drank some of this?: Hula Daddy Holualoa, Hawaii "Kona Sweet" 100% Kona Roast: Light Review Date: December 2008 Origin: Holualoa, Hawaii Price: $34.95/10oz Blind Assessment: Intense, crisp, molassy sweet aroma: coffee cherry, aromatic wood, dusk flowers. In the cup soft but powerful acidity with a wine, or perhaps better, apple cider nuance. Delicate, silky mouthfeel, very sweet, continued coffee cherry, molasses, nut, aromatic wood, a hint of dusk flowers, all of which suggest at moments the most subtle milk chocolate imaginable. Smooth, clean, lightly flavor-saturated finish. Notes: This coffee is a dry-processed or "natural" coffee, meaning the beans were dried inside the fruit rather than after the fruit is removed, as is the case with wet-processed or "washed" coffees. Hula Daddy is a boutique coffee farm at the 1,400 foot level of the Mount Hualalai volcano near the northern end of the Kona growing district, five minutes above the town of Kailua-Kona. This coffee was prepared under the supervision of Miguel Meza, one of specialty coffee's younger visionaries. Visit www.huladaddy.com or call 888-553-2339 for more information. Who Should Drink It: At the moment of this review, early December 2008, fresh from the patio and just rested, an extraordinary and original coffee, complex and exotic yet lyrically pure.
Haha, jesus. Yeah, my pops used to work in the appliances industry, so he got 2 of those fucking machines for free (gave one to me). I just looked up the price, not cheap. Wouldn't have one under different circumstances.
I'm with copa on the love for Kona. In general, I can drink whatever. I mean I buy a few bags from Boca Java every couple of months but the majority of my coffee drinking happens at work so I've grown accustomed to the poor man's stale Folgers. However, if I'm ever really in the mood to splurge I go with 100% Kona. There's very few minor singular events that I can recall in my life but my best steak (NY strip from Morton's in Nashville) and my best cup of coffee (small, no name coffee shop on Oahu) are still very vivid to me and just like a drug addict I still want that rush but it's rarely, if ever, the same. /run on sentences
More of a morning crew topic than a late night topic, IMO. I'm not really a coffee snob, other than only buying fair-trade. But I do prefer eastern-African countries' coffee lately though, over the island coffees. OK, maybe I am a coffee snob.
I'm more of a Starbuck's addict than a coffee snob, although they may be the same thing. I typically do not brew coffee at home as I cherish and look forward to my drive to Starbuck's. It's become a bonding experience for me and my kids and they even ask when we are going. I can't stand deli, gas station, dunkin donuts, or other coffee's, although I am not averse to gourmet coffee's from boutique bakeries and coffee shops, who pay attention to the beans that they are using. Flavored coffees are disgusting and are the equivalent of drinking wine coolers. As far as work goes, since I am the boss, I make sure we only have Starbuck's, Kona occasionally, or this Organic blend that I like.
I fucking hate coffee. Hate it with a passion. Absolutely refuse to get hooked on the stuff and would rather fuck up my body with energy drinks before I drink my next cup of joe. Still, this thread makes me want to be a coffee snob. I may just start making it for other people and not drinking it myself.
I'm a semi coffee snob. I fucking hate starbucks and think it is shit. I don't do anything crazy like you, I do use water from my brita filter though. I have a local coffee shop that has coffee from around the world. Each day they have 3 coffees out of the 15 or so they carry. I typically get those or if there is something I like a get a pound. I like dark coffee. Strong. I've had Kona coffee and it is the shit.
I've never had a single cup of coffee, a cappuccino, orange mocha frappe latte or anything like that.
after my time in barcelona, i aspire to espresso euro-douche status (ok not really), but am too cheap to purchase a decent espresso machine. cafe con leche, chocolate dipped croissants, and spanish bitches everywhere. good times.
This is why I don't drink coffee. Its cost prohibitive. Starbucks type shit seems like it would be delicious and lord knows I could use some extra pep in the morning sometimes, but I'm not going to spend $5/day on it. Hell, the reason I'm in good health despite being a is probably because I've never drank coffee or smoked...I might keel over tomorrow if I started doing one or the other.
Can you seriously say no to an appliance like that though? That thing will put your kitchen so ahead of the curve bitches from three states over will want to try the elixers it cooks up. Touch screen? Got it. Double boilers? Fuck yea it does. Plus it even has its own cup warmer. You know, just in case pouring molton hot coffee into your mug isn't enough. I'm sold.
If any of you ever buy a 3000 dollar coffee machine without sending me at least a grand first to indulge in my vices you better fucking sleep with your eyes open.
I am not a snob because I will drink whatever is brewed so that I don't look like a douche. I drink office coffee black because most people drink coffee way way to weak. At home I exclusively use a french press because I can use water that is below boiling point. Expresso machines and drip coffee maker technology is based on boiling water to make them work. Boiling water releases tannins in coffee that causes bitterness. So you can not use enough grounds to get a truly rich flavor without spending 50 per pound on coffee or using an expresso roast which has a burned flavor. Using a french press with water no hotter than 205 degrees allows me to use more light or medium roast grounds without making the coffee bitter. This gives me a really rich cup of coffee without a burned expresso flavor. I don't use cheap coffee like Folger's but the fair trade Marquis De Pava sold at Costco and Sam's club is very good. It is now packaged as Sam's choice but is grown in Brazil and is a high quality bean. I also buy Cafe' Dumond's Coffee and Chicory. I had a dinner party last Thursday and made my guests some coffee and they all agreed it was twice as strong as they usually drank but they all loved it because it was rich without being bitter.
