Yep when ppl started talking about her I had to look her up bc I completely forgot who she was. Then I read that theory and it makes a lot of sense. Can't wait till he actually writes about it and explains it all. Really hoping he doesn't die before finishing the last 2 books.
Knowing GRRM, he sees who everyone thinks will be Jon's parents and he totally makes up something just to fuck with people.
yea, but I feel like this is too big of a plot point for him to call an audible on. if Jon Snow truly is just a bastard between Ned and some wet nurse or even Ashara, what's been the point of all this? I don't know how he would play out that story without it being a huge letdown otherwise. and if he chooses to just ignore it, someone may murder him.
am I sleeping on how big of a plot point the identity of Jon's parents are? I'm almost halfway through book 5 and while I've kinda mused over a different theory or two while reading these threads...its just not that big of a deal to me
I get that...I thought it was important for a while...not so much now. Truth be told I thought Gendry was going to be a major player
yea I wouldn't dismiss anyone we've been introduced too. I'm not sure Gendry is going to be a huge deal, but he could still be some type of player. with the amount of time GRRM has invested in Jon Snow though, I would be shocked if he wasn't a major player in the end in some capacity.
I'm not dismissing Jon's importance...was just curious as to how important his lineage would turn out to be
When this turns out to be accurate, I'm going to be kinda pissed that you guys spoiled this mind blowing revelation for me.
Since I just finished, I guess I'll share some of my random thoughts... I'm curious to see if Robb knocked up his wife before the Red Wedding, and if not, I wouldn't be surprised if his wife's family wasn't basically giving her the morning after potion rather than some fertility potion they were claiming they were giving her. Also, I doubt The Dog is dead. I'm curious to see what happens with Bran and Arya, and I really don't want to have to wait until I read through another whole book before I get my answers... I would not be surprised if that "Cold Hands" character is Benjen Stark, though him not being able to pass through the magical gate makes me second guess that. Like some of you stated, I'm kinda pissed that Tyrion lied to Jaime about killing Jof, but I can totally understand why he did it. I mean Jaime had let Tyrion suffer by lying about Tysha being a whore; so why not let Jaime suffer thinking he freed the man that killed his son. I totally saw the Red Wedding coming from a mile away..
I'm hoping Arya reunites with Nymeria. I've been wondering that since she escaped King's Landing. And what the hell is going on with Rickon and Osha? I want to see an update on them.
Yeah, It would be nice to get a little bit of an idea what was up with Rickon. I thought it was pretty cool when Arya had the wolf dream of Nymeria and her pack killed some of the Brave Companions when they were tracking Arya, Gendry, and Hot Pie after escaping Harrenhall.
If you read these threads you will read a lot of theories that people have spent a long time thinking up. If you want to avoid mind blowing moments then I wouldn't read any of the threads even after you have read the books. A mind blowing moment was lessened for me in book 5 because of a lot of the speculation I had read on this site and tower of the hand. edit: I didn't mind that much because there are so many moments that are still not to mention I had to wait so long between book 3 and book 4 and book 4 and book 5 that I loved the theories even if it lessened the impact of some other stuff.
Good stuff. Some things you will find out in book 4, some in book 5, some things we don't even know yet
Yeah, I know.. Pissed was probably too strong of a word, but yeah, I've tried to avoid spoilers by only reading the book threads after I've read the whole book, an I haven't really read anything on tower of the hand until I read that essay they linked in here. I've only used that wiki of ice and fire site to go into the chapter summaries and check how many chapters I have left in the books since I bought the series as a bundle on my nook.
Only spoiler that got me was I read something about a red wedding. Always assumed it was going to be Joffrey's until I read about the Starks going to the twins for Edmure's wedding. Then it clicked that that was going to be the red wedding. So it wasn't as huge as it could have been, but it still got me good bc I thought Robb was still going to live.
I was under the assumption that if Jon had that Targaryan dragon blood or whatever then fire couldn't hurt him? He burned himself fighting the wight so I'm not sure how he's gonna control a dragon. Unless he uses one of those horns.
Yeah but Dany said he didn't have the "blood of the dragon". But then again I'm no geneticist so I'm not sure how these dragon voodoo powers are passed along.
I'm only through the 3rd book but feel like his lineage is the biggest plot of the series. Spoiler If the theories are true, he is the true heir to the Iron Throne. (I assume he is not baseborn of R and L, too much time spent on all he suffered being a bastard and trying to overcome his birth) Also sets up possible Targaryen incest relationship with Jon and Dany or (more likely) a battle for the throne between them. But I still have a lot to go and have learned that everything I expect to happen won't.
Not much to add that hasn't already been said on SoS, it is probably the most ridiculous (in a good way) book I have ever read. But a few random thoughts: -As soon as Robb named Jon heir to Winterfell, I knew he was dead. Didn't expect it so soon and the Red Wedding still caught me by surprise -Is it weird that I found myself rooting for Sansa's maidenhead stays intact? There is pretty much a non-ending stream of guys trying to take it and I was relieved each time she escaped the situation. -Hopefully Zombie Catelyn is best Catelyn
I threw the book across the room which scared my dog and pissed off my girlfriend. I left it there for a couple of days, Absolutely, but mostly, at this point, because it has to do with who the 'rightful owner' of Winterfell is.
Spoiler I have no idea of the timeline but I have to beleive that whenever Snow's parentage is revealed it will also reveal he's not a bastard. GRRM twice had the chance to have a kingly decree make Snow highborn but didn't let it happen, which kind of supports the theory
Book 4 related post in spoiler Spoiler So, I read not too long ago in a Cercei chapter that The Hound allegedly took a group of raiders into Saltpans and that he supposedly raped a 12 year old girl there... I don't think that would be something The Hound would do, so I'm thinking some either he's dead, or he was robbed of his helmet by the raiders. Then it also mentioned he may have joined Dondarrion and co.; so that makes me wonder if maybe he died and is a zombie now, too.. These aren't really questions I expect you or anyone to answer, I'm just bored at work, and wanted to put some thoughts out there on the record.
Yeah, I just can't read the book 4 thread until I've finished the book, and even then, it's ridiculously long; so who knows if I'll ever read it all.
yeah...I finished book 4 a month ago and only read the last 7-8 pages of the book 4 thread because it was so effing long
More book 4 talk within spoiler... k_d do not read, as you haven't read this far yet. Spoiler I just read a Brienne chapter where some head priest guy told Brienne that The Hound is dead, and that the people who raided Saltpans must have stolen the hound's helm that he had left as a marker for where he buried the Hound... Now, I'm guessing that the people who raided Saltpans are the remaining members of the Brave Companions, as I figured the way they raped and pillaged Saltpans is something that they would do. Now, I have another theory, but I'm thinking it's more wishful thinking than anything... The head priest said that the man Brienne is looking for is dead and that he buried him and everything else. I just think it would be a shitty way for a good character to go out; so I'm hoping that what he's actually saying is that the man the hound was is dead. I'm hoping that the hound is now repenting for his sins on this Silent Island or whatever they call it. I hope to see the hound re-emerge as a key character later down the line. One role that I could see him filling is being one of the new knights of the religious order. I can't think of what they are called, but I know Cersei just repealed some law to allow the religious orders to protect themselves and they have two different religious fighting orders. I'm hoping the hound joins the more legit order of religious knights.
