Just finally got home from my trip. Copenhagen --> Krakow --> Prague --> Yacht Week Croatia --> Copenhagen --> NYC for a day --> Home Awesome, awesome trip. Yacht Week is a must no matter the price.
Absolutely. Way too much partying with Krakow and Yacht Week. Going that hard for seven days is rough.
Jesus. What an amazing fucking trip. You're going to annoy all of your friends, and you won't want to talk about anything else, but you'll have to. I bet this lasts at least a month.
I wouldn't be that surprised if you could buy xanax over the counter in Bangkok. You can buy it here in HK.
I'd like to go to both New York and Boston...that seems pretty cheap from Atlanta ($252). Wish I had a contact in either of those cities for free lodging.
Yeah, mine has been set for a while 6/30 - NYC 7/1 - Prague 7/2 and 7/3 - Split 7/4 to 7/10 - Yacht Week 7/10 - 7/12 - Ultra 7/13 - 7/16 - Hvar 7/16 - 7/20 - Prague #swoon

I wouldn't worry about it all. I took some stomach stuff in case I got sick and didn't have an issue. I had more of a hang up getting back into the states through customs than either Thailand or Vietnam.
Got back from my travels. Went Bangkok->Chiang Mai->Ha Noi. Overall just a helluva trip and really wish we could have done more but pressed for time the travel days to Pai were just too much and honestly think we crammed the perfect amount in during our 10 days there excluding travel. Bangkok - Simply just out of this world. I heard all of the stories before and thought it would be similar to Vegas. You hear the stories but more manageable and not so much in awe once you settle in. We stayed there two nights in the Lub D hostel and the only downside was location. If we did it again I think we would have stayed in a hostel near Khao San road but still was a really nice place. We adjusted to the time the first night hitting up a shady Thai massage place and the last 10-15 minutes you could tell what the motive was as they focused on the thigh region quite heavily. Wound up passing but still was amazing for like 3 bucks for an hour. Just hung out the rest of the night and chilled at the hostel and drank while meeting some other people from the Hostel. The second day was spent going through and doing some of the touristy stuff. Did the Wat Pho but didn't do the Grand Palace and think this was the right call. The Wat Pho was less crowded and seemed pretty similar. Pretty cool to see all the history and the incredible layout of all the stuff to see for the price. Spent the rest of the day going around markets and doing the street food, it is incredible as advertised. That night we went pretty hard and made our way to Khao San road which is as big of a shit fest as you would expect. All backpackers trying to get hammered throughout and really easy to get pretty drunk with the drink specials. Met a group from the UK and hung out with them most of the night. It downpoured at the end and took a Tuk Tuk back to the hostel which was an awesome experience. The trip to the airport was a little bit of an adventure. We took a taxi and told him the airport (Our flight was at like 10:30 and we left at 7:45) and the traffic was absolutely horrendous. Definitely should have taken the train as we wound up being driven into the ghetto of Bangkok and probably unwisely getting out and walking trying to find a better driver. Wind up missing out flight but were able to get on the next flight to Chiang Mai. All in all I could see the Hangover 2 happening almost scene for scene as the city is just insane. Chiang Mai - Definitely amazing views. The first night we got to our hostel and went out to relax as the hostel didn't have AC but we took it as part of the experience. The second day we did the tourist thing with the elephants, white water rafting (Although with the reduced rain it was more like rock water rafting) and then did about an hour and a half trek into the jungle to see a waterfall which took up the whole day all in all. I would advise against the all in one package and probably do an elephant park and then maybe zipline. Other than that we did Muay Thai that night was pretty hilarious to see and the beers were dirt cheap. The last day there we took the tour around town and then rented motorbikes and took them up the mountain to overlook the city. The views were incredible and although the traffic can be hectic it isn't that difficult once you get on the open road. The night life there is surprisingly good as well even though we stayed in the Old City. There is a set of bars but the main one I believe is called Yellow and just filled with Backpackers. My buddy scored with a Thai girl and they are all over just waiting for travelers by the end of the night. He didn't get scammed or at least not yet and definitely had a good time as he was a disaster the next day. All in all such a cool city and would have liked to have made the trek up to Pai but we didn't want to cut ourselves short in Chiang Mai and personally glad we didn't as we were only going to spend a night there originally. Hanoi - The first thing I have to say is holy shit at the traffic. Imagine India I guess on steroids. There are virtually no rules and I was surprised not to see an accident but just a way of life over there. The town itself seems like a smaller Bangkok but maybe a touch more widespread wealth. You see a lot of markets, counterfeit stuff and then have a central plaza where you can find the upscale designer type American shops if you please. The city has a ton of little unique parts with several cool bars. We did do a trek out to Ha Long Bay and that was essentially one giant party. Our tour guide does it 3-4 times a week and I am surprised he is able to stand as it seems like he goes hard every time he is on the boat. The island and bay area is absolutely gorgeous and the boat was a nice relaxing end to our trip. We met a kid from Alberta who sold his house and quit his job and bought a one way ticket to SE Asia. He was in Australia and met a Aussie chick who he is now in the midst of falling in love with who met him there. He was able to secure a 3 month Visa for Vietnam and just there for the ride he had no intentions of returning back home and it is amazing how short American stays were compared to everyone we met traveling. The second shortest seemed to be 2 or so months which is insane to think about. After Ha Long Bay we just spent our remaining nights meeting some new people from Germany and going out with them around town. Hanoi is pretty crazy for partying it seems from our short time although the curfews get a little intense with bars closing their doors at the request of cops. Was a little worried they would break up the party and our group being American would be at risk but never happened and all in all felt great reception from everyone we met. Overall the trip was an awesome experience and definitely looking forward to traveling again more in the future although not likely with my guy friends but the fiancé. Hoping to do Croatia/Italy/Greece sometime in the near future and then parts of Europe before thinking about kids but we shall see.
i really need a portable electronics device with more storage than the ones i have for this flight. fucking shit
Yeah, I'll take what I consider a long trip of 14-18 days. Then everyone you meet while abroad is just living for the moment, months and months at a time. So jealous.
That's the worst... then all the foreigners poke fun at Americans because "we work too hard and don't enjoy life"
Some of those people who travel a long time though waste so much time doing nothing. I remember being in Phnom Penh and this fat girl from australia did not leave the hostel for 4 days and just watched movies and smoked weed, but then loved to tell you how amazing and important it was to travel for long periods. Or I can think of the Canadian guy in Barcelona who had spent a month in the hostel bar and laying in the sun on the roof and hadn't even ventured to the beach yet. Real amazing experience doing something you could do anywhere else in the world. Longest trip I did was about 6 weeks and I was pretty ready to come home by the end. My student loan and working situation would never allow me to really go for a super long trip anymore, but I'd imagine certain things would get old at times. I like sleeping in my own bed, being on a workout schedule, eating healthy food and not drinking every night. Maybe I'm getting old.
Yeah. I agree and can relate to all of that too. It's not that I'd like to do a 6 week trip or something long term. I live way too luxurious of an American lifestyle to hostel it up and not sleep at 68 degrees every night. Wayyy too spoiled I'd just like to take 3-4 of my two week trips per year but I just can't manage that and keep my kush job. 1 big one and 7-8 smaller US trips a year will likely be my life for the next few years
If when I do it, I won't be hosteling every night and won't be raging every night. I'll probably have to get some sort of job abroad to make it work anyways.
Always makes me super jealous. While in Florence on our honey moon we met another newly married couple on their honeymoon, they were doing a 3 month long trip. Blew my mind, I had to weasel my way into 16 days.
Lots of dates for this one #Airfare Deal: [DL] Washington D.C. - Johannesburg, South Africa. $774 r/t. Details: http://t.co/xtpe5tnsYv #travel
I encounter both sides of the aisle. I meet a TON of people like you mentioned---"yea man, I'm traveling the world, been doing it for months," but then literally don't leave the hostel. It's weird. But I also meet a ton of people that travel for months and are off doing things every day, so I don't want to generalize the group that leaves for months at a time. Some of the people I met traveling for months at a time are the same people I would go out and explore with during the day. This is what it pretty much boils down to. A lot of the people you meet that are traveling the world for months at a time don't have a legit job/career they have to return to, they have no responsibilities when they return home. It's cool to travel for long periods of time, but at the same time I don't want to do it at the cost of mortgaging my future. I greatly enjoy making enough money to support my annual big trip, supplemented with long weekends. And you also realize how good we have it in America when you're abroad re: amenities and infrastructure.
Yea, all international flights basically give you a personal entertainment system with very good selections. I always just watch a movie or two, pop an ambien, and crash.
Flying to Seattle tonight. Middle in Economy comfort (free drinks/bigger seats/more legroom) or aisle for economy preferred? I am leaning comfort.
Unless you're on an american based carrier. I flew on american from Dallas to Buenos aires and back from Rio last year on an old ass plane with no tvs except for business/first class. It was bullshit. Seems like no personal entertainment is the standard on American and United on long haul. Not sure about Delta. I'll pay extra to fly an international based airline on long haul.
Fuck a middle seat. That flight really isn't long enough for me to purchase a middle seat just for some free beers.
So anyone know anything about Martinique? NYC, Boston, Baltimore to Fort-de-France, Martinique $178 round-trip for winter travel http://t.co/VQfaFOZJxJ
Going to London again this weekend. Gotta talk to a tattoo guy about my next one and probably pub hop a bit, maybe hit up the Tower.
we are just going to miss each other. 6/28-30 LON 7/1-3 Dubrovnik 7/4-8 Hvar 7/8-9 Split 7/9-11 Paris 7/11-13 LON I did find out my friend is going to be in Hvar for yacht week while I am there so I have that going for me. Anyone got a good place to stay in Split? That is the only lodging I dont have booked yet
I definitely wouldn't pay to upgrade to a middle comfort seat. I get free economy comfort and still probably would pick the aisle seat. I am flying JFK-LHR in business on Virgin Atlantic, apparently there is a bar in the cabin. It should be interesting.
I've flown between Vegas and London first on Virgin. Yes, theres a bar. The Flight attendants are hot. You get like a 4 course meal with wine pairings and whatever cocktails you want. You'll love it, have fun.
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...ace-Split_Split_Dalmatia_County_Dalmatia.html Stayed here a few weeks ago. 2 minute walk from the old town gates and recently renovated/expanded. Really nice staff, good breakfast, clean and modern and only about 100 euros a night for a great room.
I am flying out shortly from Seattle to SFO at 630pm, should be at airport from 430pm. Then SF to HK and the joy of 13 hours in economy, but at least it's with Cathay.
