Yeah this little bastard had rib fragments in almost every fillet. Never eaten sheepshead before though. What's your cooking recommendation? I was told to fry it
Fried is delicious, but try blackening in an iron skillet next time. Just as good as redfish, if not better.
Here's what you're going to do: Flour--Eggwash--seasoned corn flour--pan fry in oil. Much better than deep fried
The first two are some of the small 10-12 inch trout we were catching. The last picture is the 17 inch one we caught.
Abel did a limited run of those two years ago. I didn't have the need for a new reel, or coin to justify one, so I passed at the time. Looking back on it, I definitely should've yolo'd and gotten one anyway. They did an acid bear last year, but I didn't think it looked near as sharp.

http://www.scout.com/outdoors/wired...-arrested-faces-felony-charges-for-tackle-box Teen Arrested, Faces Felony Charges for Tackle Box Cody Chitwood, a 17 year old student at Lassiter High School in Georgia, has been arrested and charged after police found fishing knives in one of his tackle boxes Cody Chitwood, a 17-year-old student at Lassiter High School in Georgia has been arrested and charged with carrying a weapon in a school safety zone. Police found fishing knives in one of his tackle boxes, located in his car along with fishing rods. According to the high school senior, he simply went fishing and forgot to take his gear out of his car. "I enjoy fishing. I go fishing probably once a week, sometimes twice a week," Chitwood said. "I just forgot it was in there. I had my fishing poles in my car, too." Lassiter High School administrators ordered a random K-9 search of student vehicles and the police dog picked up on the scent of black powder, allegedly stemming from a few firecrackers left in Chitwood's truck after a Fourth of July celebration months back. No other contraband or drugs were found in the vehicle. Following his graduation, Chitwood has plans to join the United States Air Force and he's worried this misunderstanding will make it impossible. "I have an attorney and I'm hoping to get the felony dropped so I can still get into the Air Force," Chitwood said. -- UPDATE: According to MyFoxAtlanta.com, charges have been dropped against Chitwood. His lawyer, Joe Pugh said his client simply forgot about the knives but Georgia's zero tolerance weapons on campus law doesn't take that into consideration. "The police officer had no discretion and there's our problem," Pugh said. "It's taking away good common sense from the officers and law enforcement in determining these types of situations." If Chitwood completes a diversion program, his criminal record will be nonexistent. This will allow him to fulfill his dream of becoming a U.S. Air Force officer.
Chartered a trip for Tuesday. Should yield results since I'm going with a guy who knows WTF he is doing. Throwing Gulps! and live shrimp at reds and I'm bringing my rod to do some topwater early morning
One of my best friends got expelled in high school for having a shotgun in his bronco. He went to a high school basketball game drunk (stupid) and they searched his car for alcohol. His dad had taken the bronco duck hunting that morning, forgot to take the gun out when they traded cars that evening, and they found it.
We used to leave our guns in our car at school all the time because we'd go hunting before or after school. They were cased, but they were usually in plain view. Most of the teachers knew it and the ones who also hunted would talk to us about where we were going that day. No one was ever hurt and no one ever freaked out about it. Hard to believe, but life sure was different in a small farm town in the 90s.
Nice. Looking forward to some pics. I had a good afternoon on Wednesday. Fished a swamp/oxbow and got about half a dozen bass, mostly on swimming frogs. They were all in the 1-2lb range, but nothing beats topwater. It's fun to use my 8wt too - there's so much cover and structure that you have to pretty much yank these guys out immediately. Might get a little bit of trout fishing in today. Hiking a trail in N GA that runs along a creek. Might as well take my rods.
I miss fishing on Lake Erie. I used to go with my grandfather to the breakwall at Nickelplate Beach, the lighthouse, or the Sandusky Pier. Went on a guy's boat a couple times and bottom fished for perch or trolled for walleye
Caught about 15 between the 2 of us. Most were about this size. Nothing big but enough to keep us interested and throwing
Indeed. We stayed up north of most of the boat and jet ski traffic. There are several spots we typically hit closer to the dam that we avoided today.
Captain I'm fishing with tomorrow shot me a text saying that there's a cold blast of water pushing fish into Port Canaveral on Friday. I'll probably be fishing twice this week
We were boating in a creek off the inter coastal and came upon a fishing bobber that was attached to some kind of fish that had to be decent size. It was cruising at a pretty good speed. we were trying to catch it but every time the boat got close it would go under water and then appear a again about 50-75 yards away. We pursued it for about 10 mintues but then had to leave because we had kids with us. Im thinking it was a shark or a tarpon? not sure but thought it was pretty interesting. video kind of sucks sorry.
Technology is awesome. I'm watching a guy reel in a shark off in water off Hilton Head island right now on Periscope.
Saw probably 20 redfish yesterday when we were sightcasting. Threw gulps, live shrimp, and topwaters at them and they had absolutely zero interest. Caught nothing but a stingray, a ladyfish, a catfish, and a small trout. The captain said it was the most bizarre and most frustrating trip he's been on. Weather Friday is supposed to suck so we'll probably hold off until next week. The good news is that the captain told me that so long as I chip in for gas and bait, I can go with him whenever I want. He's also sponsored by Salt Life, Berkely, Fenwick, Penn, etc. through a program he joined when he got his captain's license so he's going to hook me up with gear
Taking a 7 hour tenkara class tomorrow as another excuse to get into the mountains and an entry into fishing. Looking forward to joining the thread.
I have zero fishing gear and didn't grow up fishing, so we'll see how it goes. The simplicity of it first got me interested.
buddy says be at boat at 5:30 so i wake up at 4:15 to be there. get here buddy is still asleep. wait for an hour and they're just now packing truck. furious.
caught like 6 hardheads and a juvenile cobia. trip was cursed from start. only consolation is buddy from hancock county thats family is in oyster business is in town and has 100 pounds of oysters we're about to cook
Anyone ever gone spearfishing? My buddy goes somewhat frequently and I'm interested in getting into it, looks like a lot of fun
Few times in the keys, mainly for hog fish. A lot of fun. A barracuda stole one from me once.... Not cool. They look much bigger under water
There was a pretty interesting podcast on fresh air a few weeks back about the commercial fishing industry. Here's a link if you have an iPhone. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fresh-air/id214089682?mt=2&i=347346896 There's another one from 6-25 on the Colorado River that's good. Be ready to be outraged if you're a wannabe envirofag like myself. https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fresh-air/id214089682?mt=2&i=345667112
Thanks man. Debating on getting into spear fishing or just investing in a surf fishing setup, maybe go for some sharks
