Buckhead is fun for 23 year olds. I do think forcing yourself to go the more uncomfortable place would be really rewarding in the long run. I say this as someone who took the easy way out and moved back to Atlanta, so do as I say, not as I do.
Nashville is infinitely better than Atlanta in every aspect. It's also full of people that move there solo so a lot of people are kind of in the same boat.
I lived in Nashville for a year and a half, have visited Atlanta a lot with a lot of friends living there. Nashville has a better food scene, better music scene, less traffic, more diversity of neighborhoods, closer outdoors activities. You can drive 20 min from downtown and go hiking. It's very young, and full of SEC women (although Atlanta has that too).
This is the kind of info I'm looking for. Feel free to add anymore details, especially on Nashville since you lived there.
The growth in Nashville is absurd. That alone makes it an exciting place to live, there are always so many new places opening up every week. Tons of free concerts. The only knock on it is how far it is from the coast.
I live 30 min from downtown Nashville. I'll party with you. I'd choose Nashville in an heartbeat. All the reasons southside said plus I bet the cost of living is better if you don't insist on living downtown.
I don't think it's necessarily that matter of fact, and more of an opinion thing. For example, this list has Atlanta rated higher than Nashville. I'm not saying one is better than the other, just that it's not a definitive fact. http://www.travelandleisure.com/slideshows/americas-best-cities-for-foodies/17
Food scene? Not sure how you would win that argument. Music scene? I mean, maybe. I know Nashville has a good country scene but it's not like Atlanta doesn't have concerts every day of the week and a plethora of festivals throughout the year. Traffic? OK, you got me there. Diversity of neighborhoods? Atlanta is extremely diverse, beltline has changed the game. Closer outdoor activities? Chattahoochee is right there in Atlanta, Lake Lanier within an hour, North Ga mountains within an hour, beach within 4 hours. Hopefully I don't need to explain how many girls there are running around ATL right now. I like Nashville don't get me wrong I just don't think I would say it is better than Atl for any of the reasons you listed. I live in NYC btw, no dog in this fight.
I think music Nashville would win easily. For almost every genre. Food I have no idea, maybe it's just easier to get to more food options in Nashville due to Atlanta's horrible traffic. The rest is probably all personal preference.
Also. Atlanta is much, much bigger. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_urban_areas There is definitely huge diversity of neighborhoods. I love Nashville, however, but Atlanta has a lot to offer.
Nashville has one of the best music scenes in the world, and not just for country music. You're tilting at windmills if you're trying to convince anyone that Atlanta's scene is as good or better.
But Thrillist says ATL is better!!!! http://www.thrillist.com/travel/nat...e-music-new-york-memphis-asheville-and-austin Seriously, I know Nashville is a great music city. My point was mainly that you are not going to be deprived of any music moving to atl, all headliners are going to come through, tons of small venues, plenty of festivals, etc etc.
Its the every day, all day availability of good live music at basically every bar that makes Nashville what it is. You never see something comparable to that in atlanta
it really is crazy. I don't take advantage of it but if you love music you could see quality shit every day. Nashville's food scene is unreal and one of the things that is pushing it forward as a top-tier city. Many people choose to open their 2nd restaurant here, many from Chicago, New Orleans, NY, etc to take advantage of the growth, unlike going to Atlanta and being one of many. Getting the only other Cochon Butcher later this year. Traffic is very manageable and free concerts/outdoor stuff is pretty sweet. And like many have said, one of the fastest growing cities so it'd be worth it to get in on it now and enjoy it. I am sure Atlanta has many, many perks as people have said. I've visited. But it is pretty massive and traffic is something I just cannot stand. I'd pick many smaller cities over Atlanta, but that is my opinion.
Can I get a post in this thread or PM with recs, what you did, tips of getting around, what is worth seeing, parks/museum/food/nightlife
Yeah... I probably should have picked a better one. My personal opinion of the Chicago food scene is strong, definitely my favorite of the many cities I've lived in.
BamaNug did a pretty good write-up. I also have a few posts itt about all of the shit I personally liked while living there.
Returned from my Croatia Paris trip. will give full write up when not at work. but I will say Croatia is one of the hottest places I've been. what's up with the heat? When we got off the ferry and hiked up to Luka's I thought I was about to have heat stroke. I was literally starting to get dizzy. Also, might have been a bit dehydrated from previous evening but still. That shit was so intense.
It's one of the hottest summers they have had in a long time. When I was in Rome the people that work at the hostel were commenting about it too. It's an insanely hot summer for all over Europe right now apparently. And them not believing in AC in a lot of places makes it worse for us spoiled Americans.
yeah all 3 in our group had stomach issues. Thought it was just from partying too much. Didn't dawn on us until we got to Paris and this girl was like yeah you shouldn't have drank the tap water there. I would wake up hungover run to the bathroom and stick my head under the sink and just chug.
Weather in Croatia in July '14 was awesome. 70-80. Also, the only tap water that I can confirm I drank intentionally was from the water spigots all over Rome. Always get still water bottles
ok tmb, need your help hooneymoon planning got married in april, but decided to hold off a year before we took our honeymoon; now the issue is, we dont really know where to go interests: eating/drinking sightseeing (museums, historical places, etc) not really beach people (we're both pretty ) i was kind of thinking eurpoe....but not even sure where to start looking (as far as countries) any help would be greatly appreciated edit: i've been to mexico 2x; wouldnt mind it again, but dont really want to also, cost is a little bit of a factor; plane tix mainly; dont want to spend an outrageous amount on the flight
Oh yes, no bueno. Twas hot as shit while we were there too. London was weird, it would be 95 one day and then 70 the next.
I will probably go tropical island on my honeymoon. Doing the multi-city sightseeing thing is fun but I think I'd rather relax and be pampered for a week. I'm not a beach person either fwiw. Go to the maldives.
Yea I drank the shit out of that water in Rome during our walking tour. Of course it was like 90 and I was coming off a yachtweek hangover.
I drank tap and bottled in Croatia. I drank probably four liters of water per day. I was fine besides the hangovers
I would say Rome or Florence. Once you get there it is pretty affordable to see the museums and stuff. Also Greece is pretty affordable these days.
Where all have you been? Budget? How much time do you have off? The further east you go in Europe the cheaper it is as a rule of thumb, and you'll have badass historical things to see in every country you visit. (Granted, Rome is the GOAT city for seeing ruins) ETA: I don't trust the algorithm for myself, but I'm probably an anomaly. Anyway, Jauntaroo has a suggestion system on their website. http://www.jauntaroo.com/
