The Nest sends me a reminder at 3 months to change... 3 months of being on that is. The 3 months I was out of town and it was on away didn't register. Or at least barely registered.
Mine only needs to be replaced every 6 months as well (manufacturer instructions). I'm assuming his is an accordion filter like mine: They're also $30-50 per filter. http://www.amazon.com/Lennox-X0444-MERV-10-Filter/dp/B004Y5Y3KU
I want to pour an extension onto my patio in the back yard, and get the concrete stained for the entire outdoor area. Want to have a spot to put my smoker, grill, a couple lounge chairs, and a couple anarondak (sp?) chairs. No clue how much I'm looking at cost-wise, but know I need to start saving a little extra for this project.... absolutely something I'm going to be paying someone to do.
Oh you paid for it. It was included in the cost of the house which was financed. It just wasn't directly out of your pocket.
My limited experience with using mine was very meh. When I worked for an appliance store in college I'd say most of our customers we got through the warranty were not happy with it. Took a little longer to get out there, our service wasn't quite up to par with them because they weren't really "our" customers. Seems like they're good until the appliance is too old then they're hard to work with (which is when appliances break). So I don't know, it's been a decade since then but I haven't purchased one for my house, and don't plan on it.
Adirondack...well done on that spelling. Sounds like around 5k for the concrete to me....maybe a little less depending on the area.
this is relevant to my interests as well. i have a 10x10 concrete slab, thats it. Just pressure washed it so at least its clean but i have no room for anything
Closed on my new place on friday (was supposed to happen 3 weeks ago) and had to move out of my rental on friday as well (already gave 30 days notice thinking I would close on time). Big pain in the ass to close and move all my stuff in the same day, it also didnt help that we had record high temps over the weekend of 106 degrees. Now we are all moved in, finishing up organizing things and start projects. I tore out the grow rooms in the basement last night left from the previous owners, luckily they left some of the lights so I can use those to grow my 4 legal plants
consensus on Nest is good? And i get my filters on Amazon so its pretty cheap. I'll go a couple of months or so.
I've had no complaints at all about it. I think a poster or two bought the honeywell version of it but I have no idea about it. I never had an issue with honeywell security components.
Closing on my place on 8/28. There's already an uncovered stone patio in the backyard. Any idea what it would cost to add an outdoor fireplace setup like this? I really have no idea if it would run 2k or 20k.
My guess was $8k with 6 of it being the fireplace in the middle. I have no construction or really any relevant experience.
Was all set to start building a nice fire pit in my backyard but just realized "no open flames" allowed outdoors in the city I just bought the house in....ugh that sucks
fellow landowning males my neighbor (kinda weird, overly nice, wants to talk anytime he sees me) and owner of 2 big ass labs all of a sudden has taken an interest to in walking/throwing the ball. i keep my lawn nice and watered and often im gone for work 2-3 days at a time and recently come back to see a couple of dried shit patches in my yard (and naturally the area is dead thanks to it being 109 degrees). maybe 10ish times since summer began? what is a good way to say "hey be vigilant about dog poop if you spot anyone not cleaning after themselves" without saying "hey motherfucker pick up your dog shit or i will kick your dog and shoot you in the fucking kneecap" note: i do have his number so texting is an option this guy also offered his chainsaw when we had some storms a few months back and trees fell. Hello Neighbor. If you don't clean up after your dog shits in my lawn I'll take it in to my own hands to make sure neither of us has to worry about it going forward. Am I clear m8?
The prudent answer would be to just text him or ask him if he sees his dog take a dump in the yard to please get it up. I would rather you go with the passive aggressive option of putting it on his front door step in the middle of the night. The wildcard option that would be the most entertaining is you could just drop a deuce in his front yard while he is watching.
I have the same huge air filters and also have my nest set to remind me when it's been used too long and needs replaced. I pay like $45 for a set of two from an Amazon reseller.
anyone done windows and doors? have gotten a couple price quotes and think we have already picked a company, but wondered if anyone had experience with it/anything to watch out for
In college I replaced an exterior door, the new one was one with the blind built into it... The blind controls were outside- make sure you don't do that. Also paid to have doors and windows replaced at our office before, had a client who did them so basically just trusted what he was doing. They were the ones that barely any heat got through which was a great addition. If you have a window that gets a lot of sun look into those.
We did new windows in two rooms this spring. For some reason the prior owners had replaced the windows in every other room in the house but left those two. All of our other windows were made by Andersen Windows (a big local manufacturer) so we matched the rest of the windows in the house and just had Andersen replace them instead of looking for a different contractor. Anything specifically you're wondering about?
nah not really, just wondering if anyone had random tips or advice I guess I heard they weren't very high quality, is that not true?
My best advice is get a good product instead of going cheap. That is true of most home products that should last a while though.
Just signed papers for a new build. Should be ready by Xmas. So stressful. We picked out bricks and stone type today. Its scary making permanent decisions like the facade. I hope it all turns out alright.
Had to do this myself a while ago. You may want to check YouTube on how to see if your freon is low. I think you just feel if there is condensation on the outside of the main pipe from the unit, but it's been a few weeks.
We've done a lot of work with the one where I live (my parent's security company that is) and never heard any complaints. They are franchised though so maybe the one in your area has a bad owner?
If the outside fan is running but the pipe isnt 'sweating' or isnt cold...yea its probably freon. Also possibly a good idea to have the coils cleaned. while youre at it. if the thermostat says its cooling but the outside fan ISNT running....may be a much bigger issue.
yea, I think Anderson is a bit more than a "local" manufacturer you probably know that, but it just struck me as funny to read Andersen Windows be called local
I felt like they were national but I wasn't totally sure. Everything here is either Marvin Windows (part of the family is actually my backyard neighbors) or Andersen but I really don't know if that is consistent in other areas since they are both local companies.
Had this happen twice at my old house, first time I was able to spin start the motor like an old time airplane- knew the motor was going out and changed it myself really easy. (Appliance guy taught me that trick on dryers) 2nd time it was a burnt wire somewhere between the thermostat and the unit, had to call in the pros to find that one
Ohh and A/C brands, seems like earlier i saw someone say Carrier is best, is that true? Currently getting quotes for full replacement of my 29nyear old unit
I have nest, don't use all the features so can't say for sure but i would be happy with just about any wifi thermostat. Nest is nice though.
So I was awakened at 4:30 am this morning to my smoke alarm making 3 short beeps. Only did it a few times. Google hasn't helped at all. Anybody have any idea what would cause that?
Yeah I saw that link. Checked both detectors and nothing, no smoke either. Hasn't beeped since it woke me up of course. Just something to keep an eye on I guess.
Interior or exterior doors? I need to replace entry doors (front entry is double doors). What am I going to end up spending?
