Somehow I've managed to avoid this band. Not for any real reason - just one of those I perpetually have on my mental to-do list. Where is a good starting point?
i don't have a record player, so i honestly don't know. i'm guessing music millennium would sell them
Thanks. That seems to be the consensus. Was surprised no one in this friggin town was stocking the new Yob when I called around today.
What is the most disappointing metal band you've seen live? For me it's Baroness, and it's not close. It was the tour after their big bus accident and their new drummer played like the material was about 20% above his skill level, and it just sounded like shit. I think they played like 2 songs from the Red and Blue albums, too, which made it even worse. People were screaming Wanderlust at them the whole time. It was bad.
Lamb of God was easily the worst band I've seen. It was about 15 years ago when they just released their debut album on Metal Blade Records. I was there for The haunted, Dimmu & Cannibal Corpse. LOG was the first band on the bill and they were atrocious. None of the band members sounded like they were on the same page, they were booed pretty hard and rightfully so.
Not sure what your opinion is of Demon Burger, but 15 years ago puts them roughly in the Death Cult Armageddon era, which was a decent album . I feel no shame in saying that Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is one of my favorite metal albums
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia is the album they were touring on, this tour took place in 2001. They played "Blessings Upon The Throne Of Tyranny" which is a fantastic song from that album. I loved Enthrone Darkness back in the 90's and I think it holds up great today. Didn't care for the two albums before that one, "For All Tid" & "Stormblast".
Sony just paid 17mil to acquire Century Media. CM is a shell of what it once was, just the finishing touches before they go full blown nu-metal and crabcore.
Dimmu has some decent stuff. Agree with what you guys have said regarding their albums. I like For All Tid too, like the folk influences. Most disappointing metal band I've seen live is probably Pelican. No vocalist made it really tough to get into their set. There was little energy.
Is the new The Sword record any good? Just saw they had a 2015 release. I really liked Gods Of The Earth but lost track of them after that.
Shai Hulud tore it up in front of like 50 people tonight. It was like a old school hardcore show at a VFW hall
Sounds awesome, I would have liked to see that. They were bigger band in that scene in the early 2000s. They really only grabbing 50 people these days?
Not sure of the maiden fans here but.. IRON MAIDEN And 'The Book Of Souls' Go Jumbo On Massive 2016 World Tour http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/iro...16-world-tour/ British heavy metal lagends IRON MAIDEN, whose new studio album, "The Book Of Souls", their first for 5 years, will be released worldwide next week on September 4, are taking touring to a new level using a Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet (a.k.a. Queen of the Skies) for their world tour next year. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson is currently in training for his license to fly the massive four-engine jet, which is almost twice the size and over three times the weight of the Boeing 757 used on previous tours in 2008/9/11. The new Ed Force One will take the band, crew and over 12 tons of equipment more than 55,000 miles (88,500km) around the planet with concerts in six of the seven continents (Australasia, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Europe), with "The Book Of Souls" world tour 2016 expected to visit around 35 countries. Details of the precise schedule are currently being finalized and the band will commence announcements of specific dates for the different territories in a few weeks' time. However, it can be revealed that "The Book Of Souls" world tour will open in the USA in late February, with Ed Force One flying in for three shows before, in early March, heading into Central America visiting Mexico, followed by a much-anticipated first-ever concert in El Salvador and a return to Costa Rica. Ed Force One then proceeds into South America for concerts in Argentina, Chile and a number of shows in Brazil before flying back to the USA at the end of March for ten more cities covering the USA and, of course, Canada in the first two weeks of April. A long awaited return to Japan follows later in April, and then the band are delighted to be playing their first ever shows in China before heading to New Zealand and Australia for a comprehensive tour during the first half of May. Shows in South Africa, MAIDEN's first visit there with Bruce, will be the last port of call before Ed Force One heads to Europe for a very extensive tour starting in late May and finishing in early August. This will the first time Ed Force One has ever been used on any European Tour dates (other than Bruce's fan club trips to shows) and will provide transport there for at least for the first few weeks. Bruce Dickinson comments: "When the opportunity arose from my friends at Air Atlanta Icelandic to lease a 747 for 'The Book Of Souls' world tour, of course, we jumped at the chance. Who wouldn't? The greatest benefit of travelling in a 747 is that because of its colossal size and freight capacity, we can carry our stage production and all our stage equipment and desks in the cargo hold without having to make any of the immense structural modifications needed to do this on the previous 757, the extent of which fans will have noted on the 'Flight 666' DVD. Although in reality we cannot carry much more gear, the savings in complexity, time and cost make using the 747 even more practical. All we will need to do is 'paint' it and move a few seats around, with the added advantage that there is much more room for band and crew — our Krew can almost get a row of seats each to catch up on sleep on the flights! Furthermore, it is marginally faster 0.85 MACH and the range of around 7000NM (13,000 km) is much greater, which means we will not have to make the refuelling stops we needed to with the 757. "However, even though we have worked out the logistics of taking a plane of that immense size out on tour, I still have to learn to fly it before we can go anywhere! So, I'm currently doing my training to qualify as a pilot and captain on a Boeing 747. I'm doing this at Cardiff Aviation, my aircraft maintenance facility in Wales, where we recently took possession of a rather splendid 747 simulator which I can't wait to get practicing on! "We're all really excited at the thought of bringing our brand new tour to fans who have never seen us play live before, and, of course, re-visiting all our old friends again too. You can rest assured we are all working hard to put together a spectacular show for our fans." The 747 is the world's most recognizable airliner on account of its distinctive hump. With its impressive dimensions of 70.7m (232ft) length, 19.4m (63.6ft) height and a jaw-dropping wing span of 64.4m (211ft) this double-decker aircraft has a range of 13,450km (7,262nm). (See grid for full and comparative specs) Final dates, venues and ticket on sale times, along with full details of what MAIDEN fans can expect from "The Book Of Souls" world tour, will be announced by territory starting in a few weeks' time. As usual, where feasible, IRON MAIDEN fan club members will have exclusive access to purchase tickets before they go on general sale. Also, wherever possible, the fan club will again be running the First To The Barrier draw for privileged, early access to the venue to secure the best standing positions by or close to the barrier.
Yeah it was kind of a bummer at first, but still ended up being a great show. The band didn't seem bothered by it, sold lots of merch. They are a weird band in the scene. I think pretty influential, but not a deep catalog and have had a million line up changes. Matt Fox is the driving force and been there the entire time, so they've been pretty great all along. But I think lost some of the punch from the late 90s, early 2000s fanbase wise. Either way, first time I've seen them since that era so it was rad.
wasn't bad. i liked Yellow & Green when it came out, but it hasn't had much staying power for me, especially after how disappointing they were playing those songs live. as far as the production goes: they make relatively intricate music so it's baffling to me why they just brickwalled the shit out of it, which is what it sounds like to me.
I saw them and was pretty happy with them, worst by far for me was actually lamb of god when they played with slipknot. I mean, they were alright, just, personally, i feel i payed way too much for a mediocre show.
perhaps it was just the show but the guitarists were all sloppy and the vocalist couldnt hit the right note to save his life. the second time i saw them was better but still not what they shoild be.
well lets see ? I have seen JIMI HENDRIX LIVE that heavy enough for u ? or how about ACDC W/ BON SCOTT. or how about PINK FLOYD W/ROGER WATERS ? HEY ! GOT IT! WAY BACK , OK ? THE AMBOY DUKES W/ TED NUGENT ? or RICK DERRINGER OR OZZY AND BLACK SABATH ?
I loved yellow and green, and pretty much love this band. To me it's shocking how bad this sounds, you would think they could get better production at this point. How do you feel about the melvins
I like it, but I don't think it's as strong as the last two albums. Apocryphon has a couple of their best songs but the album overall isn't as strong as some. I'd rank their releases as such: 1. Warp Riders 2. Gods Of The Earth 3. Apocryphon 4. High Country 5. Age Of Winters
Fantastic band! I tried to force feed some here their 2012 album in the old metal thread but was met with resistance.
Wrote this on another board but review of the new Maiden album Just going to do a short, track by track review of the album... 1- If Eternity Should Fail: A fantastic way to open the album. This song wouldn't feel out of place on The Chemical Wedding or Tyranny of Souls. A future Maiden classic for sure. 9/10 2- Speed of Light: A decent song. Some cool riffs, nice chorus, doesn't overstay its welcome. A fairly standard Maiden song. Nothing special about it, though. 7.5/10 3- The Great Unknown: A strong, if understated song. It wouldn't look out of place on AMOLAD. Bruce pushing his vocals a bit on this one, but a nice collection of riffs, melodies and solos more than make up for it. 8/10 4- The Red and the Black: The most divisive song on the album from all accounts. Some have criticized the "cut and paste" feel of this song, saying it doesn't feel cohesive (sounds like another band I know). I dig it, though, and I guarantee it will be one of my most listened to tracks on the album. Juicy riffs and solos can be found all over this one. 8.5/10 5- When the River Runs Deep: An interesting track for Maiden. Very fast, with some interests riffs and hooks. Unfortunately, this song never really becomes for than the sum of its parts. A fun little rocker, but not much more. 7/10 6- The Book of Souls: Fantastic title track. Everything you'd want from a reunion era Maiden song. Starting off with a delicate acoustic guitar intro, it morphs into a sludgy behemoth, similar to something you'd hear from Heaven and Hell (the band, not the album). Bruce has possibly his strongest vocal performance here, as the song morphs from a sludgy old school metal song into a soaring number. Great melodies, great hooks. Feels cohesive. Just an absolute gem. 9/10 7-Death or Glory: Pretty meh. A typical reunion era Maiden short song, which isn't a compliment. Next massive songs like the title track, this one doesn't really stack up. Certainly not a "bad" song, and on a lesser album like NPFTD or FOTD might even stand out as one of the best tracks. Here, it just can't hold a candle to what's come before or after it. 7/10 8- Shadows of the Valley: The song with the Wasted Years intro. After the intro, it morphs into a soaring number with a driving beat. Some very cool riffage and some very nice vocals from Bruce propel this song forward. 8/10 9- Tears of a Clown: Another meh song. Nothing really stands out about this track, other than the subject matter. Maiden at their most generic. Still some nice melodies, and actually dig some of the lyrics. An easily skippable track, though. 6.5/10 10- The Man of Sorrows: Starts out with a haunting lead guitar, that doesn't quite sound like anything Maiden have done before. Akin to something you might hear on a Scorpions album. While not a full ballad, this song has many elements of a typical ballad. A very nice chorus, and some of the best guitar work on the album make this song one of the better tracks, though. 8.5/10 11- Empire of the Clouds: Starts with a beautiful, yet simple piano melody. The band plays around it as the song eventually picks up and the distorted guitars crash in. This song is all about the story that Bruce is telling. More of a soundtrack then a typical song, it morphs partways through into a musical medley of soaring guitar parts. The first part bringing to mind images of this massive airship flying gracefully through the air, and the following parts bringing to mind images of it plummeting from the heavens. It took me about 5 listens to fully understand just what I was hearing. It is a lot to take in, but if you have an open mind, some time on your hands, and are able to wrap your head around what it is you're hearing, you'll find that this song is a thing of beauty, and the true highlight of this album.9.5/10 Overall, I see this album as an 8.5/10. After a minor misstep with TFF, Maiden have found their form once again. While not quite up to the level of BNW, TBOS is certainly a welcome addition to the Maiden discography. If you're a fan of the reunion era Maiden albums, then you'll enjoy TBOS. If you're not, then...well.....there's no helping you.
Also I object to you calling the final frontier a minor misstep. Ya not every song is great but several quality songs and the talisman is an all timer
been during this 2 hour fantasy football draft. Deliverance by Opeth just came up in my shuffle. the whole song is dope but the last 6 minutes or so
i was hoping you'd like Saxon burnttatertot Leather and Denim is a great album the number of dope albums released between like 78-83 is incredible
i dont know if it's still up but there used to be an opeth fan forum that he posted on. eventually douche bag opeth fans drove him away, but he posted a big list of prog bands that he was into. some of it was weird, most of it was awesome. that's how i really started getting into it.
They were probably ragging on him for stealing shit and only giving credit once he was caught and called out. You wont find anything in your "Still Life" booklet about Camel, only "All music and lyrics written by Opeth".
pretty sure in one of their live shows he says something like "this was ripped off from a band called camel"
