How will they react if things arent going well in year one? you can do all the promoting you want but if there are no results, well see butch jones
I don't think anyone expects too much this year. We weren't particularly good last year and lost a lot. People are just pretty hopeful because right now recruiting has been excellent.
Things aren't going to go particularly well in year 1, everyone knows that. This is probably a 17ish win team. We're just excited to have passion and an identity back in our program.
Maybe y'all are just excited for any glimmer of hope. Point was even with promotion, fans are only coming if the results are there. Will be interested to see how your fans react this year and year two if the results are still not there
This is probably the least excited I've been to watch our basketball program since probably the Stan Heath era
They will be here this year regardless, I feel pretty good about saying that. Grant did everything he could to alienate the students, alumni, past players, etc in addition to putting a terrible product on the court. The students are going to show up, getting the Birmingham base to show up for midweek games is going to be the key.
AU vs. UAB is such an awesome way to get things started. Can't remember the last time we played an exciting matchup to open the season.
I know digging at Lyle is fun, but this analogy doesn't add up. We went 5-7, 7-5, 2-3 and still sold out the UGA game. Fans still support him and show up. There will be 95k plus at the SCAR game in 10 days.
Kenpom preseason conference rankings (overall): 1. Kentucky (2) 2. Vanderbilt (20) 3. Texas A&M (39) 4. Florida (44) 5. South Carolina (48) 6. LSU (49) 7. Georgia (52) 8. Ole Miss (68) 9. Alabama (77) 10. Tennessee (78) 11. Arkansas (92) 12. Miss State (111) 13. Auburn (162) 14. Mizzou (167)
I have a hard time believing LSU is going to be the 6th best team in the conference when it's all said and done.
I think LSU is going to miss their two big men leaving, who do they have to replace? Simmons obviously, but he seems more like 3/4 than a true power forward
We have no proven talent at the post. Need Robertson to step up, but we'll be susceptible to teams with good post players.
The SEC Network is screwing out of town fans. Games are either at 6 which is too early or 8 which is too late
Disagree. If you build up a big enough cache of excitement, you can get a pass from the fans on year 1 easily. Especially when everyone knows it's a rebuild. I think the one of the biggest determinants of fan support will be how closely does our style of play match the style of play he claims to want. That was a big issue with Grant and led to a ton of frustration.
Jimmy Whitt is going to be a really good player for us. Could see him averaging 15 ppg this year as a freshman Too bad our next best player is probably Manny Watkins
Yeah I understand people questioning the loss of Martin/Mickey. Simmons is an absolute monster though that will make it pretty easy to forget about those two. Blake Griffin type prospect
Im not seeing it with UF. But Im also not a fan of the Kevin White hire. Auburn is going to be a lot better than where people have them slotted.
Johnny Jones is so unbelievably bad though...it seemed an almost physical impossibility that LSU could lose to Auburn last year and they managed to do it twice.
Florida didn't have a big man last year, Finney Smith lingering injury, Frazier hurt, Carter hurt, tough losses at the end, poor free throw shooting and incorporating Murphy at mid season all worked against us. The pieces are there this year if one of the freshman bigs can provide post depth. This is the deepest team we have had as far as able bodies in quite some time
Their only hope at getting a bid was the conference tourney and it being in Birmingham last year didn't help their chances
Avery is the Kevin Sumlin of basketball Be able to drum up excitement, but never gonna win anything of significance Much like his NBA career
If LSU had hung on to Mickey and Martin to go along with Simmons and Blakeney and Quarterman they could have been a final 4 team But like Thrasher said...Johnny Jones
Why are you high on Auburn? I think Pearl is a very good coach, and I like him, but they lost a lot (believe it or not) from last years team. Lost like 4 or 5 of the top 6 scorers iirc. He's recruited well but I just don't think they have the players quite yet. If he finishes strong with another good class they could be pretty good next year though. Aubs has Purifoy been cleared? He would be the best player on the roster with the exception of maybe Cinnabun
The students will be there no matter what, it is the people driving from Tampa, Jacksonville and other areas that are the problem O-dome only holds 11.5 k right now, and we have averaged 10.4 k (elite 8), 11.4 k (final four) and 10.5 k (no post season) over the last 3 years, so by capacity percentages, I think so
Allegedly our PG Kareem Canty is supposed to be one of our best players...hopefully Cinnabun isn't in our top 2 best players because he's not very good. Still waiting to hear on Purifoy.
oh damn I think Grant recruited him very hard out of HS iirc. If you guys can get some PG help it would go a long way. Harrell will be missed though he was pretty dang good
Frank Martin now at the mic "We're a little closer to actually playing somebody. The older guys are ready to go play." --Martin said there is nothing to complain about leadership with this team. --Martin said to be a good teammate you have to be unselfish and not worried about who's playing and who is not. He said they are consumed about winning. --He loves the personality of this team. --When asked if this is the team he has been waiting for, Martin said that they are now prepared for what the season will throw at them. --He said the older guys have been through it all and they haven't flinched. "When you have a group of guys like that, you sleep good every night." --"We are not very good defensively right now. The effort has been great, but defensively we have not been real good." Martin said this isn't a surprise to him because their is always one guy on the court that is not as experienced as the others. --Martin said they have had more blocked shots and charges taken since he's been here. --Martin said last season was the first time that Sindarius Thornwell's body has betrayed him and he wasn't sure how to handle it. Now that he is healthy and has his legs underneath him, Martin is seeing improvement in all phases of the junior's game. "I'm rooting for him to have a good year. He deserves it." --Martin believes that Marcus Stroman could have been one of the top freshman last year if it wasn't for his illness mid-season. --Martin said Sindarius refused to throw in the towel last season because the team's depth suffered throughout the season. --Just McKie (hamstring) is expected to start practicing tomorrow. "He's been a heck of a teammate. He's learning how to score within our concepts, and not just score. The McKie family has been unreal to our basketball team. --Sindarius would be the third option at point guard. Duane Notice is more "wired to score" --"It's been great to have some competition in practice. Competition is healthy."
