It will be interesting to see what happens now Klopp has options. For most of his tenure, he's been hamstrung by injuries but for the first time we're going to have a pretty healthy squad minus Sakho. I'm interested to see where Henderson plays, does he take Ibe/Lallana's wide role in the 4-2-3-1, Milner's role as more of a deeper midfielder in a 4-3-2-1, or Can/Lucas's role as a DM in a 4-2-3-1.
He's like the anti-Ibe who just wants to blow past everyone but then plays a terrible final ball. Its too bad we can't merge Lallana and Ibe into one really good wide forward.
Really hope we can finally do a Sturridge/benteke 4-4-2. Think that will open up Sturridge to get space to score.
Has Klopp run a 2 striker set up a lot before? Serious question as Bundesliga coverage is non existent so I'm not too familiar with his various tactics at Dortmund. With the high press either 1 or both of them would have to be vigilant in tracking back to help win possession you would think. You always want to find a way to get your best 11 players on the pitch but if it messes with the system it could be counter productive.
He pretty much ran a 4-2-3-1 at Dortmund and gets a ton of scoring out of his 3 attacking midfielders. If he did play 2 strikers, it was most likely very early in his tenure at Dortmund because I don't remember seeing them do it much in the Champions League. If he did play Sturridge and Benteke together, I would think it would be with Sturridge out on a wing.
Yeah, that is what I was thinking. We all know that isn't his favorite spot but if he truly committed to playing out wide it could be beneficial for you guys. He will def drift in as much as possible. I'm team 4-2-3-1 till I die.
I went back and looked and he did play Lewandoski and Barrios on occassion, but it was in a 4-2-3-1 with Lewandoski as the center of the 3 behind Barrios...I'm guessing in practice it looked more like a 4-4-1-1 at times. So I guess you could do that if you wanted Benteke and Sturridge out there together.
All the premier league teams going through today, wouldn't break my heart if we started a 2nd tier side and lose tomorrow.
still think ibe should be trained to be a wingback, when he played a similar assignment when playing 5 at the back he did really quite well, his pace is still great, both in offense and in defense and his lack of true skill will be masked
If that's the case, we should sell him. Klopp doesn't play wing backs. Maybe he could change him into a right back like he did Piszcek
Saw Zorc at Dortmund say Klopp is free to try to sign BVB players. Would absolutely love Aubameyang, probably more than any other Dortmund player. If we make UCL next year, maybe that's a realistic target.
We should make a list of deadwood that will be cleared out to see the vacancies. Pretty obvious areas that need strengthening without clearing deadwood are LB, RB, DM (unless Klopp sees Can has a DM), and wide midfielders. Too bad we can't recall Lazar as I think he'd flourish under Klopp.
Of the current squad, I think Allen will be sold, Origi might be sold or go out on loan, Enrique will go on a free and Kolo will probably retire. We definitely need LB cover (RB seems ok if Flanno/Wisdom are around as back up options), think we could upgrade at DM with Lucas as the back up, could upgrade at RCB and goalkeeper although the word is Mignolet is getting a new deal. Personally I think we need a right attacking midfielder (although this might be Markovic) and we need to buy a #1 striker since we can rely on Sturridge).
Of course I switched to watch this week's episode of Fargo. If I didn't see it, it doesn't exist. Seriously though I never downplayed his ability, when on form he is deadly and capable of the spectacular goal. I just said with his health issues most people would opt for Kane if given the choice between the two. Also, we were talking about PL strikers not Capital One Cup strikers .
Brenzie @Brenzie 25s26 seconds ago Just redevelop all of Anfield so we don't have to play at home again for, like, two years.
