Kids finished HP7-1 last night, Dobby dying flat out destroyed Meatball. Put him to bed after the movie and 15-20 minutes later poor guy was crying his heart out
my wife yelled at me for letting our son watch it... because of the sorta naked Hermione/Harry makeout scene.
Plot summary from The Cursed Child. Yikes. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...ild-spoilers-here-s-the-plot-of-the-play.html
Been reading the first book to my 9 year old. Tonight we're reading the final chapter. He's convinced Snape is evil. At the end of the last chapter it says that Harry entered the room with the stone and saw someone there "only it wasn't Snape, and it wasn't Voldemort..." He stayed up all night racking his brain over who it could be. His best guess is that it's Dumbledore come to tell Harry that everything is okay now. He loves Quirrel because Snape bullies him and he hates bullies. His little heart is going to break. I can't wait.
I'm genuinely excited as fuck for your kid that he gets to relive that magic and excitement we've grown up with.
It's truly awesome...Meatball and his buddy have been running around the neighborhood with sticks in their hands charming/hexing their little hearts out
Really is a complicated story along with a pretty overused story arc. Surprised at how "mature" the content of the story was.
The first time he tried expelliarmus on me, I dropped my beer like he disarmed me. Mrs. Celemo was kinda pissed but it was totally worth it
I'm expecting my first child (son) in September and my wife always asks me what I'm most excited about and my answer every time is reading to him. These last couple posts have me so excited.
My kids have finally realized that there are some really awesome books out there and just because the movie isn't animated, that doesn't mean the movie is going to suck
Yeah that was bad. If she's going to write any more HP stories it needs to take place before Harry is born.
It wasn't bad. The story itself was pretty good. The arc that drove the story has been done numerous times already. It was very lazy of her and read like a very well written fanfic because of it
I just don't care about the kids. If you're going to write more in that world write about the characters we already know and care about.
Didn't get a video because we were reading it on my phone. He was shocked but played it cool. He still thinks Snape is evil just pretending. So needless to say he's eating out of JKR's palms right now.
I mean, the snape arc is one of the best arcs for a supporting character I have ever read. If I was having a discussion on best storytellers, snape would be my example for Rowling.
Still on my first read and just finished Goblet of Fire. The writing at the end when Harry is dueling Voldemort was just incredible and so vivid. Really looking forward to getting into Order of the Phoenix since shit is really going now
It's a great story, he's a complete prick in the books, though. Treats Harry like shit as an 11 year old orphan, which happens to be Snape's fault. And that was before the Dark Lord returned, so he treats him like shit because he's pissed about being friend zoned by Lily. He abuses Neville throughout the entire series. Why? Because he's upset that Neville and his family wasn't killed instead of Lily and hers, which again was his fault. Snape's story is a beautiful one, and I agree it stands as a testament to Rowling's story telling talents, but the character himself was still unlikable all things considered. Harry's dad also sucks, IMO.
He was also always really mean to Hermione, which is strange as she's probably the closest character to Lily in that generation. You don't get to be mean to my favorite Hermione and not earn my rage.
I think in some ways, Snape thought Hermione was way too full of herself for having none of the lateral thinking talents that wizards like Snape/Dumbledore etc had.
Offspring of his most hated peer, who got to have loads of sex with the love of his life. That's reason enough to explain his assholery.
Just in general? I actually started reading because the gf got me to watch the movies and I wasn't really interested but towards the end when the Dark Magic got involved I could see how it would be good. As a result, I know the major plot points but I really don't recall details. So like with Goblet of Fire, I knew there was something weird with Moody the whole time but couldn't really remember what, and I very much enjoyed the build up and reveal of the younger Crouch having him cursed and prisoner. The first two books were good, and I appreciated knowing the end game of Voldemort and the horcruxes (don't remember if that's right?) because I could pick up on subtleties like when Dumbledore told Harry something like "I suspected he left a piece of himself with you," or something along those lines in one of those books. It was really the end of the third book where I got to fully appreciate the writing because I couldn't put the book down towards the end. Same with the end of Goblet. It's such a complex story yet the writing is so vivid and thought out that it's so easy to enjoy
Not really. Maybe for someone with the maturity of a ten year old. It's not Harry's fault Lily married and banged James.
Neville was weak and Hermione showed him up. Snape wasn't emotionally mature by any stretch. He was a douche. But a fantastic character, literarily speaking.
Hermione didn't show him up, Hermione to Snape was a try hard overachiever who needed to be knocked down a few pegs.
Snape was damaged goods from a young age, then went through all that shit with Voldemort and having Lily die fucking up his world outlook even more. That's he's not exactly the nicest dude in the world is hardly surprising, but it makes his sacrifice more impactful as he stayed true despite everything shitting on him for years.
