Went for a seven mile walk yesterday in the midst of some snowfall. My dog fucking loves snow but still isn't sure about water. So weird for a Lab. Spoiler
Mr. Handsome here loves the snow. I take him with me every time I go to the mountain and he guards the truck.
Still haven't heard back about the Black Lab I was trying to rescue, but assuming it is going to be a no. So I was looking at other rescues in area and most are Pit bulls, which I don't want. There are a lot of Staffordshire Terriers listed as well. They look a lot like Pits, anyone know anything about that breed?
I noticed Oz was limping when he came home from playing in the snow a few weeks back - looked at his feet and they felt like the hook side on Velcro with big cracks in his pads. But he refuses to wear any boots, either. So I picked up some horse salve from the feed store and got them healed up then put on musher's secret.. This stuff is awesome. His feet are soft as cats pads now and no limping.
My current dog got attacked by a Pit a few months ago and girlfriend is dead set against getting one. Not sure how my dog would react either to a pit after being attacked by one
Staffordshire Terriers are the actual Pit Bulls they are the GOAT breed, especially if they have three legs
my pit mix is fucking awesome. dont judge a dog by its breed. its the fucking owners fault when a dog is aggressive.
Paige is such a softie. you can pull her ears, tug her cheeks or grab her tail and she'll whip around to start licking you it's crazy how fast and strong she is and it's clear she could fuck my world up if she wanted but she is too sweet. can put your entire hand in her mouth and she'll just start licking it love this doofus
In the 70's it was german shepherds. In the 80's it was dobermans. In the 90's it was rottweilers. Now it's pitbulls that shithead owners gravitate towards, so the unfortunate thing about owning a pit is having to defend yourself against the allegation that you are a shithead too.
that must be regional. The only GSD's I see are with owners who treat them like children. Seems like they are a quirky dog. I guess that sounds funny coming from a cattle dog owner.
Most of the time they treat them like a regular dog and they dont train them or give them jobs so they end up crazy and aggressive. But then again I work in an area where dogs are more status symbols.
Its more judging the owner though. I've seen a couple bad pits too. Mostly by ghetto ass people who pay in all cash. Most of the time, its just pits or pit puppies that have been v/ding for a couple days, most likely having parvo, doing some over the counter meds and saying a prayer for the dog when they walk off the door.
But you're still stereotyping the breed's owners. You may not be seeing as many bad pit owners because they're worse owners and thugs who don't take their pets to the vet. Or, maybe there's a preconception bias. Either way, it's not consistent to call out one breed/its owners while defending another. There are shitty owners and it sucks for the dogs who end up with them, regardless of breed.
well if you get a working breed dog and you dont exercise, train them, and give them jobs, I am gonna judge the fuck out of you when you bring them in and they are unruly and try to bite my face off people are gonna do that to pits and I'm gonna defend them, just like you are doing to me with GSDs
After getting dicked around by that rescue place, my girlfriend decided she wanted to say fuck them and get a puppy. I told her I wanted a rescue, but I wasn't going to object to her getting a puppy as long as it didn't come from a puppy mill. So, we got a puppy whose dad is Chocolate Lab and mom is a lab mix with part Husky. Found her on an online ad, it was a lady whose two dogs had puppies and we went to her house to look at them. I mean I could have gotten fooled, but I am pretty sure she didn't come from a puppy mill, doubt they would breed non purebreads.
This has probably been posted before, if it was I missed it and couldn't find it in search. Just came across it yesterday though and it hit me pretty hard in the feels.
My 8 month old Husky is acting kind of weird since we got the 8 week old lab. He will play with her a little bit, but mostly seems to desperately try and avoid her. At night he will act like he needs to go out and then try and sleep outside. I caught him sleeping behind my couch last night. He will pick up toys and try to walk away from her too, but when she is awake she just follows him around constantly. She play bites him a lot, he was good about ignoring her but he is starting to play a little rougher with her, which worries me because she is so much smaller. But at the same time I hope the little shit learns to be put in her place and it will stop her from bugging him constantly.
