Would make sense that the only thing we learn from this is McCosky is bad at his job and prematurely reported something that didn't end up happening, and in the process incorrectly reported the reason why it didn't happen. If we're being honest with ourselves here, that was always the most likely scenario in all of this.
I have trouble believing McCosky's reported prospect haul as well. Seems like way too much and only sets up disappointment when the haul this off-season is much less
Bittersweet feeling here. it was time to make a move, but gonna be sad to see him go. Lot of great memories over past 10 years. Thanks JV. Go win a World Series. I'll be an Astros fan for rest of playoffs. Get ready to suck our dicks #Los Angeles Dodgers fans
I never thought I could like a post of yours this much. It just hit me talking to my brother that he's gone, and it hurts. I love that man. Hope he wins a WS and has his moment on that stage, although it will probably kill me to see it with another team after how close we got here.
Perez will probably be #1. Cameron and Rodgers probably anywhere in the 3-10 range, depending on who is doing the ranking
I'm about to start watching JV highlights on YouTube and it's going to get dusty over here. Don't mind me.
Best memory is the 2011 ALCS against Texas. Game 5 in person. He hit 99 on the gun in the8th inning after throwing 130 pitches
I was late for my 3rd date with my now-wife because I was watching Verlander's first no-hitter. She pretended that she didn't mind, so I figured she was a keeper. Total bait and switch. Can't believe we really traded him. Peace out, JV. It was a pleasure.
whoa. shady's back? Also, this sucks. The Tigers were terrible my whole childhood and I had more joy watching this run than anything any other Detroit sports team has done.
So what does everyone think about Avila now? I still have my doubts but it appears each successive trade he made was better than the last.
He did good on this trade. Still think we need a new age GM to go through with the rebuild. His 2016 free agent signings should be enough for dismissal. So does Fulmer get traded now?
KRod and Lowe aren't fireable offenses. Pelfrey kind of is because no one should be that stupid. Zimmermann is a disaster, but you play in FA enough stuff like that is going to happen. Upton turned out just fine and was mostly Mr I, but unfortunately it cost us a pick we really could have used. 95% chance Fulmer isn't going anywhere, but he's definitely not going anywhere pitching like he has in August because no one is going to Godfather offer us if he's missing zero bats and continuing to have nerve issues in his throwing arm down the stretch.
That could be a thought, but I'm not sure what his deal is. I would have thought they would keep him on the DL until everything was good the first time, and then he said after the NYY game last week that it returned for a period during the game. Maybe that was him covering for the struggles or hitting Sanchez on purpose, but that doesn't seem ideal for you the only young MLBer worth a damn on the current roster.
The day Verlander comes back and makes a start for the Astros at commerica park, he'll get a 5 min standing ovation.
And probably throw a no-hitter. And then get 10 min standing ovation because no Tiger fan will care about the bums in the lineup.
I'm still recovering from last night, but it's pretty hilarious that this is ultimately what ended up happening.
So we are not calling up Candelario? Let's keep trotting out Nicks worthless ass at 3rd. Meanwhile we called up a reliever who can't throw a strike. That should end well...
Vinegar Strokes brought this up yesterday, but just thinking about the opening day line-up next year with the assumption Kinsler gets moved for prospects and VMart gets released. Looking like: C - McCann, Hicks 1B - Cabrera 2B - Machado, Romine, Lugo? 3B - Candelario SS - Machado, Romine, maybe Iglesias? LF - Presley, Gerber, Stewart CF - Mahtook, Jones RF - Castellanos SP - Fulmer, Norris, Boyd, Zimmermann, Farmer RP - Greene, Jimenez, Labourt, Stumpf, Wilson, Reininger, Bell
We'll call up Candelario after Toledo's season ends Sunday. At least that's what all the writers are saying.
That team will be interesting to watch for a while. I imagine we will be really gritty which is a nice way of saying we will suck but probably try hard.
I'm still hoping this season ends with Miggy landing blows on Iggy and having that little fuck off the roster before next year
I think Iglesias is a good bet to either be traded for nothing or non-tendered. He's not part of the future, and the only reason to pay him the $4-5M he's probably going to get in his last arb eligible season is because they literally can't come up with another body to play the position.
It's probably too early to speculate on this but is next years draft considered strong? Or I guess more importantly, are there 5-6 good players at the top of the class.
They said it's one of best in years. Loaded with college bats. I want Jarred Kelenic. High School OF out of Wisconsin. Probably won't make it to 5-6 pick range though
Here is a little preview mock Callis put together after this year's draft with at least some names to follow if you're interested http://m.mlb.com/news/article/236744566/jim-callis-2018-mlb-draft-top-10-projection/
If Fulmer were to miss 2018 we would have to be the favorite to finish with the worst record in the league.
If Fulmer doesn't pitch in 2018, I'm not sure we can win 50 games. I don't think that's hyperbole, either, unless Miggy has a massive bounce back season.
