Nola doesn't need any more flooding. Fortunately I'm getting in next Friday for a long weekend and the weather looks glorious. 83° highs. Yes please.
I'd argue a lot of the city needs more flooding. ETA: looks like weather won't be too bad from the storm, thankfully
National Tank Truck Carriers had a great time. notable meals were at St Lawrence, Desi Vegas, and Cochon Butcher.
Heading over for the day. Planning on hitting a few of the breweries this afternoon NOLA, Urban South, and Courtyard for sure.
I had never been to GW Fins, no idea why - finally went a couple weeks ago and loved it. The food was incredible. Have to say though to get to it we had to walk past Bourbon St for a bit and that place is disgusting.
Thank you sir. Just have to decide where to eat lunch. Going to go stop at a beer store or two and then park and walk/Uber the rest of the day
Here’s a vid of every sandwich made at Turkey and the Wolf. You’ll be salivating by the time it’s over.
Turkey and the wolf was three blocks from my old house. Went a few times and was satisfied. fwiw, steins and the wolf were equidistant from the house and we were 90% more likely to go to steins.
I'll be doing some kinky warehouse party in the marigny/bywater akin to the big dicks parties. Hannibal burress is performing at joy theatre.
Just looking up shit and soul sister is doing something at the civic. May pop in there as my best friend is a bartender there.
Hi. Heading down to New Orleans for the first time for a Bachelor Party this weekend. Any suggestions? I am planning to check out the WWII Museum. We are staying on Natchez St., about 1/2 mile from the french quarter.
Read the whole thread, but here's some quick tips - French Quarter is fine for your first visit, for a bachelor party I imagine you'll spend some time at a fine gentlemen's establishment somewhere on Bourbon Street. That said, don't spend all your time there. Better food and drinks to be found elsewhere. Frenchman Street at night for some new Orleans funk and jazz music. Garden District is just down from the WWII museum. Breweries, bars, food that is really worth it. Courtyard and NOLA brewing are my favorites. Cochon butcher or Domilise's for great sandwiches, imo. The WWII museum is huge. And nearly impossible to get through all of it in a day unless you spent the whole day, which is probably unlikely on a party trip. That said, I spent 3 hours in there one day and went through the D-day exhibit and the Tom Hanks movie and feel it was worth it. I'd suggest buying your tickets online just because the line can be long. But buying your tickets online doesn't necessarily let you skip the line, it'll just make it quicker once you get through.
As far as I know. Was in early December when I was there. Recall reading it would be for NYE when people were talking about the Sugar Bowl.
I avoid it like the plague unless I'm obligated to bring someone from out of town, can't imagine how miserable it must be with the street torn up.
My boss bought a walking tour with Chris Rose for her team. Dude is a nut, but it was pretty entertaining. His whole premise is based on all music originated in some form from New Orleans. Would recommend it for anyone looking for something a little different in the city. It came to mind because in his tour he made a comment to the effect of "This tour is about New Orleans, so the only time we will step foot on Bourbon is to cross it as quickly as possible."
Bourbon street is nasty, and a mess right now Couchon Butcher is close to DDay Museum - so I’d go there. Sunday afternoon you can go watch the Saints beat the Panthers in the dome.
Is Bourbon street still a mess? Well, the contruction price doubled and they halted construction until May and left their shit there. The first block ate up half of the entire budget. Now thats the real New Orleans everyone should go see. But Bourbon doesnt equal the Quarter. Still lots of great places to see there.
Spent this past weekend in the FQ and unfortunately stepped foot onto Bourbon St. before the Sugar Bowl. Fortunately, at least for now, the street itself was pretty nice and there was no construction going on whatsoever, unlike a month ago. Was pleasantly surprised they removed the fences and ankle-breaking sandbags.
https://articles.nola.com/jazzfest/index.ssf/2018/01/new_orleans_jazz_fest_2018_lin.amp Jazz Fest lineup coming tomorrow
Pretty meh. Only days that made it move were last Friday for beck and last Sunday for jack white and galactic and Steve miller(?) Jazz fest late night grids is where it's at.
Does that warrant an excuse for missing work? “I can’t come in today. I drank New Orleans water last night.” I may try it.
I think this Jazz Fest lineup is the better one in the last few years. Lots of bands I typically do not go see, not to mention seeing Sting, Aerosmith, and Aretha Franklin for probably the only times I will ever see them. David Byrne is supposed to be doing it big this tour, too. That said, of the few late nights announced so far, I am really looking forward to JRAD but don't think anything will be able to top Neon Medeski. Maaaaaybe Worship My Organ, which is largely the same lineup but MONONEON > Deitch.
I think my buddy and I are gonna open an RO and alkaline water store in the marigny. I literally can't drink the water here. It makes my mouth dry and my stomach hurts. Fucking third world city.
Headed there in May for a week and a half for work. Never been, quite excited. Because I’ll be there 10-11 days I’m planning on renting a car for a day or two to check out other stuff in LA or on the gulf coast. Any tips on other stuff check out in the region? Was thinking of driving to Pensacola and staying a night then coming back. Never been to FL either and I’ll have time to burn so I figure why not. For all I know this may be a terrible idea.
I don't know if it's a terrible idea, guess it depends on what you're trying to do. Since it'll be May, at least the beaches would be enjoyable. That said, to Pensacola would be about a 3-3:30 hour drive, and is not really a scenic drive. There are a few breweries along the gulf headed that way, if that's your thing. Southern Pecan and a few others around coastal Mississippi. Coastal Mississippi also has a fair amount of casinos in Biloxi. Serda just opened in Mobile. It's meh. Fairhope Brewing across the bay, Big Beach down in Gulf shores, both better options in Alabama. Depending on the weekend, I would avoid Gulf Shores. Traffic is a bitch regardless of whether you take 59 or the expressway toll bridge. Also, Hangout fest is early May. Pensacola is an alright place. Want to say prerecordedlive is our resident expert (only person currently living there?) Haven't been down to their beaches in a while, but they have good food options, and I believe a few breweries. If you're looking for entertainment there is a Saenger Theater in NOLA, Mobile and Pensacola. Probably one in Mississippi too if I had to guess. If you're big on beer, Parish is one to check out outside of New Orleans, about an hour or so west, I believe. Always an hour away from Baton Rouge too if you want to go see Mike the Tiger and hit their breweries. You have time at least to do a little research and decide if any of that is worth your time.
Just picked up a Clooney's Choice and a Blue Heeler from Milk Bar. Highly recommend. https://www.couchster.com/neworleans/order/MilkBar-151
Good stuff, thanks. I was thinking of hitting up Baton Rouge at a minimum. Like the brewery possibilities and the other stuff headed east. I wanna get every ounce out of this trip and I’m thinking that means I need to branch out from NO for a day or two.
