1. There is no bar seating. 2. You have to order at the front door all beer/food. Once that happens you can order from servers. Yesterday was a cluster to do this. 3. Not that big of a deal for me but my wife hates high top tables and that is all they have outside. 4. Another not big deal but interior needs some shit on the walls. I am a Hutton and Smith guy and have always said once MT comes they will be my favorite. And that is true. Just some small things.
What is a downtown spot for a good/fun lunch that is appropriate for mostly well behaved two year old?
Would recommend Agave and Rye. It’s really close to the aquarium and has awesome food. Can go to cold stone next door for ice cream with the kid too.
It’s got a really unique menu with tacos of all types. We usually get their guacamole and queso as an app which the kids like to munch on. Their Birria (sp?) tacos are really good. My wife doesn’t love spicy things but really loves their Plain Jane. We get our 2 and 3 year old the cheese quesadillas. Last time I got the lo mein bowl which sounds weird at a place like that but it was really good. You can add any protein you can think of. They have great margaritas and a nice bourbon selection as well.
I've only been once but I was not a fan of Agave and Rye. I'd rather have Taco Nooga or even Taco Mamacita.
Agree with Taco Nooga. Not a Mamacita fan. The place next to the Walnut bridge beside Suntrustis pretty good too.
Mezcla Cocina. That's my favorite of the 5 north shore mexican restaurants within that 1/4 mile radius.
longshot, but anyone know of a secondary mkt for Jack White tickets this saturday at the Walker Theatre?
Coming to town in December for the train. I'll have my kids so can't do anything super fancy. Any new spots worth eating? Il primo and daily ration are my old favorites.
Primo got competition. Go here. Much better. https://www.giardinochattanooga.com/ My kids love river drifters after a hike on middle creek. https://www.riverdrifterschatt.com/ Tons of good Mexican. Han Mi is great but perhaps not with kids. Depending on age Boo in the Zoo is going on. Edit saw you said December. No boo in zoo but rock City lights is kind of cool.
How old are the kids? I don’t think Giardino is better than Primo, but it’s good if you’re wanting to try a new place. Seems like they tried to copy a few of Primo’s dishes IMO. Pizzeria Cortile is kid friendly. So is Mezcla in north shore for Mexican food and it’s pretty new. I think you already know about Tremont Tavern.
Just wanted to praise a couple of places. Calliope across from Hutton and Smith is fantastic. Used to be at the meadery in Roseville and now are where Proof was. The Monen's new music venue is great as well. Sound, ease of access and bar lines were great for a sold out show.
Is Real Good smokehouse amazing? I see it has a perfect rating on Google and it's 0.1 miles from my hotel.
Meh, it's good, not great, if you're craving BBQ and want something close by, but there's much better BBQ in the area. I still hit it a couple times a month just because I work nearby though.
Renderings for the future of Broad Street. I’ve long believed the first 2-3 roads from the Aquarium should be pedestrian only from Chestnut to Market. Bulldoze the Lookouts stadium and make tons of parking for all you’ve lost accessible from Chestnut only.
Went to the soft opening for Kai last night. Rough experience and definitely glad they have 3 more nights to sort things out before they open next week. Ran out of multiple items (which I blame on people there early who apparently ordered multiple dishes to take stuff home), long wait times for food, and sounded like some kitchen issues. Waited about 1.5 hours for my food. What we did get was amazing though, and the couple cocktails I had were really good. Lots of potential once some of the kinks get worked out. On another note, any of y'all see Flying Squirrel is shutting down at the beginning of November to change course and become a high-end Chinese restaurant and Tiki bar? Interesting combo for sure.
Hoping to make it for the 6th. Have a wedding to go to on the 7th which means likely missing GSBG. Already had to unload my Phish Bridgestone ticket for that night.
Last minute work trip. Staying somewhere downtown, doubletree I think. Not too picky. My sister is building a house there and will be moving in a few months. Looking forward to spending more time up there. Have always enjoyed it.
Where is she building? If you're downtown there's a lot of great places. We went to 1885 in St. Elmo last night and it's always great. It's about 5-10 minutes south of downtown. You can also do Tremont as stated earlier. It's def a much more laid back vibe. Across the street from Tremont Tavern is Il Primo--I really enjoy it. If you're looking more central downtown and pricier, Bridgeman's, Alleia, St. Johns/Meeting Place are all upper tier Chattanooga dining.
Hennen’s is another good spot right across from the aquarium. Can’t go wrong with anything mentioned. I’ll add Feed, State of Confusion, and Stir to the list
I’m not sure what the area is called. The only thing I remember is that the streets are all named after characters is fairy tales or something like that. I’m going to swing by when I finish up tomorrow to check it out. Appreciate the recs. I imagine I’ll try and find something on the more casual side downtown somewhere.
That is on lookout mtn. If you want to walk somewhere from hotel go to Wooden City, Thai Smile or hair of the dog.
