If a coach can read and write at an 8th grade level then head coaching experience isn’t needed they’re already way ahead of their competition

 

I'm guessing the outcomes are pretty similar for hires with and without HC experience. Aggy's last two coaches had HC experience

I doubt they have a top five but I'm fairly certain Lanning is number one with a large gap between him and anyone else. I know a lot of boosters(as well as Saban himself) really like Lane so I'm sure he will get a call. I'm sure a feeler will be sent out to Sark but I highly doubt he would consider it.

Obviously nothing to back this up. I could also see someone like Norvell or Drink on the list. I doubt Dabo even gets a courtesy call. Saban is going to have 51% of the final say, though.

Drink is low key an attractive option. Don’t know if he would work, but there’s something to the idea about not hiring a Saban coaching tree guy. And if he was successful at Alabama, the fact he worked under both Malzahn and Harsin at different stops would make dominating Auburn that much funnier.

 

He’s a total goober, but I’m a fan. Next year will be arguably the biggest in his coaching career with the loss of Cook and Schrader coupled with the additions of UT, OU, and CFP expansion. Seems like he’s doing a good job on the trail, but sustaining success is much more difficult than having initial success.

 

I agree. And while I think he’s done well, it’s tough to know exactly how well, as the SEC has been a bit weaker the last few seasons. And that’s especially true of the East outside of UGA.
