you could do it on a 100A panel depending on what other circuits you have, but an upgrade probably isn’t a bad idea regardless. I went to 200A when I finished my basement and it’s nice to have the extra space. you can probably do a 200A upgrade and an EV circuit for like 4 grand or so.
also check for rebates and incentives in your area, I got $500 back on the EV circuit and federal tax credits on both the EV circuit and the main panel upgrade
Yup, we have a smaller local utility here that offers either $500 or $1000 depending on what you install and if you agree to charge on off-peak times (which doesn't seem like an issue).
any charging station will let you set the times you want to charge. I just plug in and it kicks on at midnight because our power rate goes way down between 12-6AM. pretty easy stuff
The federal tax credit for installing an EV charger allows up to $1000 of credit. You should get that with an upgrade I’d think. Just watch out for electricians that include that credit into their quote. Shady fucks.

Pulled the trigger on an older Model S. Getting a 2015 P85D with unlimited supercharging and free unlimited LTE connection. 92k miles, but that seems to be less of an issue with EVs. Battery degradation seems to be on par with what is expected (~1% loss per year). It has MCU2 and the door handles were replaced. With the $4k used car incentive taken off at the point of sale, the total came to $18,700. I’m kind of blown away at the deal. For any of the Cornhuskers, the car is coming from Lincoln, NE, and appears to have been babied.
That sounds like a great deal. Just checked cargurus in CA and that's better than average here, and only a few grand more than a lot of 2nd-generation LEAFs. Lots of good options in the used EV market right now.
Big time. I usually have a list of cars in mind as just in case scenarios, if I were to get in a wreck and need a car. I didn’t actually need one right now, but I’m tired of driving a slow hybrid. Also, the prices have gone down so much for EVs, and getting a rebate on a fast car with free supercharging, just made the decision so easy.
Had my eye on a few Model Xs, too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see prices continue to slide some, with this being an election year, and a lot of far right talking heads pushing a negative narrative on EVs.
2 weeks of ownership of the R1S and wife got hit already. Old lady in a target parking lot backed into the corner of our car while wife just started to pull out. Here’s to hoping the fault all lies with the other lady. She fully admitted it afterwards but not sure how these things go really.

Went with local collision company that has taken all the classes and is certified by Rivian. Found out they have never actually worked on a Rivian before but is confident they can do it. We will see.
I know a guy who bought one in August 2023, hit a deer two weeks later, and didn’t get the car back from the body shop until April 2024. Is a problem.
Mine is at least driveable and will be using the local collision center to fix. The wait on it will just depend on Rivian getting them the parts needed. Hopefully the fix isn't too long once that comes in. Another fun aspect of it was they didn't have any information on the 2024 model so used data based on the 2023 model. I am pretty sure they had some changes between models. No idea what that will do to the estimate or the fix for it.
that’s fairly common on new models because the manufacturers don’t get schematics into the estimating software for a while. most likely difference will just be part prices
US automakers and the other EU brands that have a major presence here aren't the problem. They're all making EV's that are industry leading worldwide and have been for a while now. In fact they are making more than the market demands currently. Where the US needs to continue to grow is adoption of EV's and that will happen at whatever pace the charging solutions and infrastructure improve over the next couple decades. Let's not forget why this whole EV thing is and has been needed for a long time now and that's to cut down on greenhouse emissions worldwide. China has a long fucking way to go in pulling their weight in that aspect so I'm happy to hear they've got a strong push on this one way to help our planet.

I charge our EV at work on Mondays and Fridays and drive an ICE Tues-Thurs. At least once a month I leave my Nissan Murano running in the parking lot when I go into work. Fortunately I get in earlier than most so someone always let's me know.

Love it. Such a smooth and quiet ride and more than quick enough for anything I'll ever need. The materials and construction are top notch. A little bit small, especially when dealing with a car seat, but it is a "coupe" so that's pretty obvious.
Loving mine after about 3 weeks of ownership. Owned a 4 series back in 2016 and it was my favorite car I've ever owned. Now being back in a 4 albeit an EV, this one might be better.
