I've been busy. Haven't been on TMB much at all. Another interesting name that I'm not sure if we've talked about is Isaac Paredes. He's a shortstop we signed last year, out of Mexico, in our international free agent bonanza. He hit .305/.359/.443 with a 10.8% K% in rookie-ball and was called up to South Bend for the last week of the season and the playoffs. He's only 17. And, as a reminder, most of the guys playing in the Midwest League were playing college ball last year, and he is the age of a high school student. As aggressive as they were with Gleyber Torres, even he didn't see the Midwest League before turning 18. It sounds like we have a lot of intriguing young talent from our haul last year that will be heading stateside next year. Besides Paredes, there was one other 17-year-old from that class that already made it over that looks very impressive, too. Jose Albertos, also out of Mexico, received rave reviews in Extended Spring Training before making one very good start in rookie ball. He was shut down as a precaution with arm soreness. But, if he can stay healthy, Paredes and Albertos should lead the next wave of talent that we will be talking about a lot in a couple of years.
I liked that and the part about him making the assistant GM eat bread when we need runs. Laughed out loud at the thought of Theo literally making a guy eat a loaf of bread.
Yeah, the bread part is definitely the best. "All right, Harris," he says. "Consume." You know every game this Harris guy is like, "Fuck, I hope they score some runs early tonight."
Seeing this before the story made me know that it was going to be good and that he had considerable access to the behind-the-scenes:
I think it's fair to say that Kris Bryant is the father of the majority of the Cincinatti Reds pitching staff.
Didn't look like it. Saw a guy in an Iowa hat behind home though. Wong's faceplant was the highlight of my day.
I've been a huge Soler backer for awhile but his lack of effort and terrible throws in the outfield are really pissing me off lately. I get that if he runs full speed he injures himself half the time but fuck.
That was fun. Be nice to get a W tonight and end the regular season at Wrigley a good note. Not that this game really means much in the grand scheme of things. Winning record against the Cards on the season would look better too.
I'd rather the Cards not make the playoffs though. I'm glad they won it, but still see them getting in bc their remaining schedule looks pretty easy compared to Giants and Mets.
Assuming this means we dodged one bullet re: McLeod keithlaw @keithlaw now10 seconds ago Twins to hire Derek Falvey, Cleveland AGM, to oversee baseball operations.
From what I have heard is that McLeod is very happy being in the shadows and does not have much of an interest being in charge.
The way some people make it sound is that certain people (likely McLeod) are immensely loyal to Jed and Theo and will stick around long enough to build a champion. Now, what that means may be up to interpretation. Is that fulfilled since they've built the best team in baseball regardless of the what happens in the playoffs?
