Are the Cubs not on WGN as much anymore? I've come home a couple times at lunch this year and have noticed they have day games and they aren't on. What's the deal?
dan harenVerified account@ithrow88 @JArrieta34 saw you gave up a run, hang in there. Thinking of you.
So with the Braves coming to town there's no reason we shouldn't be 19-5 by Monday. Then next week should be a great test for the team going to Pittsburgh and then getting the Nationals for four games after that.
Did you guys read that article about the Cubs possibly trading for Josh Reddick around the trade deadline? He's a free agent, so it'd only be a rental. In the article he talked about how Theo told him that he'd never trade him when he drafted Reddick with the Red Sox. Basically went on about how Theo had a crush on Reddick, so maybe he'd be a likely trade candidate if we need him. I've always liked Reddick and wanted to sign him at one point, but he'll be a 30 yr old FA, so it's not gonna happen. I'd be cool with a half season of him, assuming we don't give OAK too much.
Mentioned reddick when schwarber went down in the old thread. He's got an expiring deal worth 6.5 MM or so. I'd definitely pursue him if Soler doesn't get it going. He will probably be sought after by several teams. So it'd cost more than the chesny young level type that I'm sure many Cubs fans will hard pressed to part with. I'm on board tho.
Loving Ross this year. And that was a good AB by Javy. Lay off two low pitches, force him to get back up in the zone and mash. Do that more often, Javy.
7 more walks. Only struck out 3 times. +79 run differential. It was only +81 for the whole season last year.
2B Chesny Young is having a crazy season at AA right now. He's hitting .410 with a .516 OBP and is slugging .538. He's also 10/12 on SB attempts and has a 16/6 BB/K ratio. His K% is the second lowest in the Southern League and his BB% is the fifth-highest (three of the guys above him are other Cubs prospects).
PG always bringing the heat with the posts. Happy for Matt Szczur. Great dude, finally getting an extended opportunity and making the most of it.
Yeah, Szczur will be an easy dude to root for. I've never been a huge fan. I know he's extremely athletic and had some potential as a prospect. But, he's never really hit before, so I thought of his existence on the team as... meh. But, he's a great guy and his story is amazing. Better man than me. That was great seeing how pumped up he was running around the bases yesterday. Him showing pop is exciting, because he's never hit for power, despite scouts thinking it would develop. So, if it has developed some, then he has a chance to be a decent player for us off the bench, with his speed and defense, too. For what it's worth, he did hit for more power at Iowa last year, after showing virtually none the year before. And his flyball/home run distance is up considerably from last year -- though it's an incredibly small sample size, not big enough to really glean any information. So let's hope he keeps it up and can maintain an OPS up around .700.
Chill out, Lackey. Quit being a pud. You're a Cub now, and we don't need to be the arbiters of Baseball's Unwritten Rules.
Well, if we go on to lose, at least we were able to tell the Braves how the game of baseball is supposed to be played.
Lackey's pitched well just getting screwed by some bad luck and bad D. Some runs wouldn't hurt either.
No Heyward tonight. It'd be nice to steal win tonight with Jake and Jon to follow. Cole is going to be pumped. Fowler CF La Stella 3B Bryant LF Rizzo 1B Zobrist 2B Russell SS Szczur RF Ross C Hammel P
Someone should tell John Jaso that looking like an actual Pirate isn't a requirement in playing for the team.
