You know me well. I was in the car cursing him out. Time to get rid of some of this junk at the end of the pen. I would like to see them sign Brian Matusz, for one. He can't be any worse than Wood and Richard. And the upside is much higher. I would also like to see Carl Edwards called up for Federowicz. And maybe see if Gerardo Concepcion can help us out. Felix Pena's looked really good out of the pen in Iowa, too.
Soler's hitting has been encouraging. I say we give him a few more weeks and if he still sucks, then we can just bench him until we play St. Louis again.
Has this rumor been discussed? The deal: Javier Baez, Jorge Soler, Kyle Schwarber, Gleyber Torres, Duane Underwood, Billy McKinney, and Dan Vogelbach for Mike Trout http://sportsmockery.com/2016/05/source-indicates-cubs-working-on-blockbuster-trade-for-former-mvp/ I know the site reporting it isn't the most trust worthy and I don't know enough about Torres, Underwood, McKinney or Vogelbach to have any idea if this good or bad trade but I'd hate to give up the first 3. But Mike Trout is Mike Trout. I would probably pass because I believe the Cubs have enough talent the next several years to make a run at the championship without sacrificing the farm system.
Of course, if Trout is on the block, how many teams can legitimately come up with $33M/season? I'm thinking of 5-6 off the top of my head, and I would think the Dodgers are out (no way Moreno lets them get all the attention afterwards). We're down to a legit 3-5 teams of Boston, NYY, NYM, Cubs, and maybe the Rangers. If the NL had a DH, this would be a different discussion. But knowing the insecurity of banking on prospects, I would say to take on Trout. He's unreal as is, improves the OF defense, improves the O, and is still young enough to get a lot out of him. I'm really talking myself into this the more I think about it.
At a certain point when you are favorites to win, aren't you just trading % points of likelihood of championship for years contending at the end of your run? Like, the Cubs are already statistical favorites to win it. You aren't chasing anyone on paper. Deal like that takes years off your contention.
Although we are looking sooner than later at Arrietta pitching G1 for the Yankees in a few while we trot out old Lester and ???? behind him. So maybe strike while the iron is hot? Fuck if I know
If he were approaching 30, i would agree with that but he is 24 years old, younger than Rizzo and Bryant. I am always a fan of trading away prospects for a sure thing mainly because prospects are such a hit or miss with more often than not they are a miss. It is just tough though with this farm because the scouting has hit more often than not.
I would do it without a question. If you have the chance to get a 24 year old who is probably one of the premier players in the game, you have to do it. Javy and Solier have shown flashes but there are still question marks in their game, same can be said of Schwarber, is he a catcher? OF? How will he come back from the knee? Torres is a great piece but he is blocked by Russell, Russell is 3 years older and what he is right now is what you hope Torres can become.
I don't care if I jinx it, it's 1/162 but how the fuck can a Jake start be a -170 line. Anyone feel like there's a 37% chance the Cubs lose with Jake on the bump?
Agree with general your thought process here, but we're so loaded with young guys and Trout is young, so I don't think it applies
You make that deal in a heartbeat... Trout is the best if not the 2nd best player in baseball at age 24. I've long been at times the only guy on the Javy and Soler bandwagon but Trout is once in a generation talent. Bam Bam is a DH and unless the NL is switching over soon its going to be tough watching him in LF for years to come. You can move all that talent and still have a decent farm. Good news is the majority of the current ML roster would be so young you would have plenty of time to restock it.
LF - Almora CF - Trout RF - Heyward You would never see a ball drop in that OF. All gold glove type defenders.
This seems silly to me. Don't you invest those guys in proven arms to keep the anticipated run going as long as possible?
I think you have to test the waters if you're Anaheim. You're an average team with lots of holes, and either need to mortgage the future or rebuild. If you can get a haul like the proposal, why not?
Ok guys my GF "wants me to ask TMB" She's going to be in Chicago for Memorial Day and wants to goto the game Monday vs LAD, what and where would the cheapest tix be. If cheaper Tuesday is an option. She asked 40-50 bucks? I Yao'd
What haul has come close when a top established MLB superstar was traded for prospects? Not A-Rod Not Miggy Not Johan Santana Not Pedro Not the Big Unit It just doesn't happen that you get equal value. Trout is also making $33M/year, so the pool of trade partners is going to be smaller. The key is whether or not you get enough value in return to make it worth it. You'll never get equal value.
That's so fucking weak. Sticks his elbow pad into a pitch and you give him the base? CB Buckner is terrible.
It really makes a short outing from the starter untenable when that's all we have in the pen that we can rely on. I'm willing to cut Warren some slack because he's been good in the past with the Yankees, and he's never had problems with the long ball like he is this year. We can't rely on him right now, but I think he'll be a solid member of the pen in time. The rest of these guys suck. Shoot them all into the sun. Cahill has been much better lately, though. Mainly those two lefties need to go. Call up Carl Edwards immediately and get right of Federowicz. Get rid of Richard in haste, too. Either sign Brian Matusz and give him a shot. Or call up Gerardo Concepcion. I haven't been too worried about it, because, well, we have the best record in baseball. And also our starters have consistently worked deep into games. So it hasn't bitten us too bad yet. But it's getting later in the year. And these guys still suck. And they are going to rear their ugly heads in critical moments at some point. Let's get to work on the pen now.
