I'm gonna be so pissed if we lose this game. Should've probably been a sweep and now we're in danger of losing 2 of 3. God damnit bullpen.
Just glad to get two outta three and get the hell out of that town Also, this guy is the fucking worst
Its early... But what team do you fear the most come playoff time? I think the Mets are going to be a pain in our ass for a long time.
I don't fear any team. They're all going to be good and we could lose to any of them. Just get in there and we'll see what happens. But to fear the Mets is really silly. For one, the playoffs are a crap shoot. So I really don't care what happened last year, or who we might get this year. Also, the Mets are kinda in shambles right now. They are literally booing Harvey off the field right now because he's been so bad. DeGrom's velocity and strikeouts are both way down. Their offense is old, injury-prone, strikeout-prone, and rather pedestrian. That's not to say they won't turn it around. They very well could. And Syndergaard is a frightening beast (though what's the alternative: Scherzer, or Kershaw, or that Bumgarner guy that just shut us down?). I mean, if you look at who we would have wanted to play at this time last year -- or really at any point up until the precise moment the Mets started kicking our ass -- between the Mets or the Dodgers, I think most people would have picked the Mets in a heartbeat. We literally had not lost to the Mets in the regular season, and they also didn't have Kershaw and Greinke. In other words, don't worry about four random, stupid games that happened a year ago. They mean nothing.
I look at that pitching and think as a whole it could get it turned around and don't want to face them. I find this type of conversation much more entertaining vs Oh man our run differential just dropped fuck the world.
Yes, we aren't spending enough time with this 31-14 team trembling in our boots at the thought of facing the hypothetically healthy Mets pitching staff.
I mean, it's an interesting topic, I agree. But more in August or September. Again, look at the Mets last year at this time. Their offense was pretty putrid, and then they called Conforto, traded for Cespedes, traded for several more solid veterans, some of their other guys got going. They added Syndergaard and Matz to shore up the rotation and go into overdrive. All I am saying is that a lot can happen between now and then. Who knows, Syndergaard could blow out his arm. The Nationals could trade for Jose Fernandez. You never know. Things can change. It's a fool's errand trying to figure out which of the four or five equally great teams you want to face months from now.
The giants if they hold up scare me, like said above their pitching is pretty good. We've seen what Bumgarner can do in the playoffs he can take over an entire game and shut you down atleast twice in a series.
I'll throw in my two cents since we are now having this conversation, though... Probably the Giants? They have a deep, talented lineup that works counts, puts the ball in play. The also can play some defense. And their top three in the rotation looks really strong. You won't be seeing Peavy and Cain in the playoffs. They're kinda built like us. But, who the hell knows. What if Scherzer and Strasburg just rip through the playoffs? So, really, I don't care.
The Nats gotta be up there too. With their front of the rotation pitching they're setup for a short series, not to mention they have probably the best player in baseball in the middle of their lineup. Throw in another bat or two at the trade deadline and they could be a pretty serious threat. All they're really missing right now is some protection for Bryce. Plenty of teams will have talent to offer come July.
The sucky thing is that there are several really good teams in the NL. There isn't going to be some random, fluky 86-win team or anything like that.
First off, I think the teams as constructed will be different than what we see right now. Teams are going to make changes and some of those changes can change the landscape of what we will see. For example, what if Washington adds a couple bats to their lineup to protect Harper? We will not be able to pitch around him like we did. What if Degrom and Harvey can right some of their wrongs, we saw what that pitching did to our hitting last post season. With that said, I really don't think we are done with our lineup as constructed either. I would not be surprised if we made moves to A) better the pen and B) upgrade a rotation spot and C) upgrade LF. With how we have looked in comparision to other teams and the stock of our farm as opposed to other NL teams, with us having Baez and Russell on the ML level and being so young, we can make Torres a very attractive centerpiece in a move.
Was just looking at some stats on MLB.com and it appears Zobrist currently leads the NL in OBP. Dex is 3rd. Those two and Rizzo are both top 10 in all of baseball in walks as well. Bryant and Rizzo are both up there in RBIs with 35 each while Riz has 11 homers and KB has 10. Lotta Cubs represented in a lot of key areas, not surprisingly. Theo is awesome. Speaking of Theo being awesome, they did a segment earlier on the Red Sox and then put up a graphic with some of the key players for the Cubs and Red Sox. What it showed was that Theo essentially built both teams. Those two teams have the best records in Major League Baseball. We've come a long way from Jim Hendry.
Yeah, Theo left a nice collection of young talent for the Red Sox. Of their 6 position players with a WAR above 1, all 6 were acquired by Theo. He drafted Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley, and Travis Shaw in the 2011 Draft, the year before coming here.
Wonder when they bump him up to A+ ball. I'm in no hurry to trade him but certainly could be a guy that brings you back a cost controlled starter.
They should leave him be. He's amongst the youngest players in the league (19.3 y/o) if he moves to Myrtle and struggles he's just going to sit. That 42K/10BB rate isn't ideal either.
Nice article on Gleyber overcoming his initial struggles at hi-A Myrtle http://www.milb.com/news/article.js...d=180281398&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb
That Soler strikeout was such bullshit. Balls 4 and 5 called strikes. Neither are anywhere near the zone. The first miss was completely egregious. How are you going to do him like that? It's infuriating when you have a young guy trying to take the right approach at the plate, being disciplined, learning to lay off junk. He took several low pitches that might be enticing to a guy with his proclivities to run that count in his favor. And then he gets rewarded with that bullshit.
Pretty sure most the team was using throwback music because they gave away 90's visors today. Sczcrszdr used a song from 2000 - such a dad move
He's been on the wrong side of a lot of bad strike calls this year. Sucks because he's a guy who needs to learn to be more patient but it's hard when the umps keep screwing him.
As long as he keeps hitting dingers, I am going to be able to get over it quicker. He's going to have to hit a lot and keep it up for a lot longer than this. But, it's crazy where he is at right now compared to even, what, a week ago.
Guy has to be up this year if he keeps this up right? I mean, imagine adding that bat to the lower third of the lineup.
