Hammel getting squeezed early. Zobrist has a noodle arm. The losing looks to continue today. Don't see us doing much of anything against Fernandez.
Farm news from last night Happ: 3-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI (batting a cool .625 at double-A) Eloy Jimenez homered...on a 99 mph FB; its exit velocity was clocked at 116 mph. Vogelbach 2-4 HR Zagunis 2-5 HR
Really missing Javy at 3rd today. He turns that double play quicker than Bryant, which would have saved us a run. He also doesn't sail the throw to 2nd, causing each runner to be safe like Bryant just did. Bryant's ok at 3rd, but Baez is fantastic and I believe the score would be 1-1 instead 1-3 right now if he were in.
I think the reason Bryant double clutched on the first double play ball was due to Zobrist not being at the bag yet. Who knows though, Javy is pretty spectacular.
Can't really find fault in Bryant for the first double play... We were in a big shift and he had to wait on Zobrist to cover 2nd.
This team at the plate feels like its stopped taking pitches and just free swinging. idk might not be true but it seems like some shitty SP (not today obv.) have dominated our bats.
Groom Happ to take over for Zobrist in time.... Or hell if Russell can't hit slide him to 2B and move Baez full time at SS
Russell can hit. And he'll always get on at a better clip than Javy. Dude is still one of the youngest players in the league. Just needs ABs. I like Javy in that super utility role. He embraces it and he's awesome anywhere you put him. Especially at 3rd though.
Jason brings value in other area's that Soler can't. He's very good on the base pads and elite in the OF. I hope he gets back to at least the level he was at last season with STL but lets stop pretending he should be hitting at some great clip.
I don't think anyone expects him to be Bryant or Rizzo but he needs to be hitting better than .230/.320/.330 or whatever he's at now. Joe continuing to bat him 2nd isn't helping.
He had a brutal may but his June #s aren't awful... .258.340.404.744 He's hit 3 HRs in the month as well..
Jake walked Billy Hamilton. Twice. Somethings not right. On the bright side, at least he went yard. And KB is good.
Miggy is so fucking awful. Can't block pitches, can't throw guys out, can't hit. His ass needs to be riding the pine.
.@LenKasper First time since 1913 (and by extension, probably ever) that a player has EVER had 3 HR and 2 2B
Knew as soon as Javy hit that he'd be thrown out at 2nd trying to stretch it into a double. Gotta pick your spots to be aggressive. That wasn't a good one.
Motherfucking Ian Happ with yet another 3-hit game 3-3, HR, SF, 3 RBI Happ bomb (little Jason Kipnis action on that follow through) http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=865382183&sid=milb
Vogelbach: 3-4, 2 2B, HR, 4 RBI HR highlight http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?&sid=milb&content_id=865340683
KB is trying to win an MVP this year. Bryzzo is stronger than ever. Willson has been a nice shot in the arm. I am placated after all of those massive homers tonight. All my worries about Arrieta, Heyward, Montero, and the bullpen... those are pushed to the side for now.
Yeah, and that's with a call-up in the middle of it all. He's hitting .733 since his call-up to AA. And the call-up to AA is often the toughest leap to make. If you look at another top draft pick from last year, Andrew Benintendim who was taken two picks before Happ, you can see that it's not always so easy. Benintendi hit .341 with a .976 OPS at high-A this year. And in his first 20 AA games, he hit .205 with a .532 OPS. So Happ hitting like this immediately after getting bumped up to AA, the year after he was drafted... it's very impressive.
