So its really early, but I think they're going to make a deal for a pitcher near the deadline. I looked at the pending UFA's and didn't see much in the way of high end starter that will be available at the deadline. Wonder if there's a huge deal to be made with a team that has young pitchers approaching arb eligibility that will see a big jump in salary.
That's the obvious name and Beane has traded top flight players before. I'd be open to trading anyone other than Almora and Contreras.
That's where I am at. And it's not that Almora and Contreras are untouchable-type talents. But they both could fill needs we might have in the immediate future. The rest of the farm is incredibly deep, but there are no Kris Bryants or Addison Russells that are supreme talents with lots of power. And our roster is so deep already that there isn't anywhere for these prospects to play. Keep Almora and Contreras for next year. Trade literally whoever else you want, and however many of them you want.
It's gonna be a balmy 43 with the wind favoring the pitchers. Just unloaded our 4 on Stubhub. God bless new blue.
Haha just noticed the title of the Reds thread. Poor Farva and the Reds have nothing left to cling to.
Yeah we just kept getting 6-8 games over then we'd lose a few before working our way back up and finally getting hot down be stretch. Much better start to 2016.
@CSNMooney: #Cubs catcher Miguel Montero said his back tightened up in the cold weather, but he doesn't believe this will be a DL situation.
Javy impressed himself with his slide last night. https://vine.co/v/iPBnizdD0zi https://twitter.com/javy23baez/status/725366798519001088

I seriously don't get all this talk with Arrieta. At first I thought it was just bitter white sox fans and random morons. Everytime I see a story or talk it is "I am not accusing him of it but..." it is such horseshit. Anyone that knows baseball knows that Baltimore fucked him up, making him switch sides of the rubber, not letting him throw his cutter, changing his delivery, changing his release points, etc etc.
The tweet was a video from ESPN who knows nothing of baseball. This was probably wedged in between an hour of NFL draft coverage.
He quoted innings pitched as his red flag for Jake being on PED's but only read his ML innings ignoring his minor league totals. Apparently those minor league innings don't have any impact on Jake. They also said he came out of nowhere and that's not true. Jack was a really good pitching prospect with Baltimore and he slowly began to improve when he got to chicago. This isn't overnight. They are idiots and should be embarrassed to even have that conversation.
Wouldn't even give a shit if he was using, but I think it's funny how these theories haven't surfaced until he was a household name for baseball fans. It's almost like it has something to do with ratings.
Sahadev Sharma @sahadevsharma 6m6 minutes ago Chicago, IL Montero will go on DL with lower back tightness, retroactive to Monday. Tim Fedorowicz will be recalled, hopes to be here today before game
User Actions FollowJesse Rogers@ESPNChiCubs Will mention now that the last six times the Cubs have scored a first inning run for Arrieta they've gone on to shutout the opponent.
lol at a 39-year-old backup catcher pimping his homer like that, too. He's been much more enjoyable this year.
Arrieta already at 73 pitches. If these next two innings aren't really quick I don't see him pitching past the seventh.
