If that's the deal we're getting hosed. I don't know if Soler will turn into anything special but the potential is there and though Torres is blocked we need something more of value than a relief pitcher for him.
Bullpen looks pretty good though Wood Montgomery Grimm Strop Rondon Chapman With Rondon in the 8th it lets them use strop as needed, even if it's just for one out when they really need a strikeout
Julie DiCaro@JulieDiCaro Sounds like deal is done. Torres + for Chapman. That's it. That sounds a lot like what Sharma just said, Julie. It also sounds nothing like what you've been saying all night. It's almost as if you were throwing shit against the wall.
I know the playoffs are a different monster, but if you have Strop/Montgomery in the 7th Rondon in the 8th Chapman in the 9th You need to be winning after 6. I like our odds in games where that is our back end.
Why is Kane a scumbag? Also MJ isn't a scumbag outside of a moral standpoint he never broke any laws if you want to moralize about him cheating on his wife do so but you wouldn't be faithful with the temptation he faced either
Dan Szymborski @DSzymborski 10h10 hours ago The Cubs are 55-1 going into the 9th with lead, 53-1 going into 8th, 53-5 into 7th. The upside for *any* reliever add is limited.
Count me in the camp that absolutely does not get it. I'm very much amenable to moving Torres, but I'd rather that be in a package for a young, controllable SP that we like.
Having watched a large number of Cubs' games this season, this just seems incorrect. Not saying it is, just that is seems off.
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 12m12 minutes ago Source: #Cubs, #Yankees working through final stages of trade. Players agreed upon.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees will get four players from the Cubs in the yet-to-be-finalized Aroldis Chapman trade. Top shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres is the centerpiece, but Sherman hears the Yankees are also getting Adam Warren back from the Cubs -- he was traded to Chicago last winter in the Starlin Castro trade -- as well as two other prospects. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has apparently signed off on the deal, so it's not clear what the hold-up might be. There's been talk of the Cubs possibly trying to work out a pre-trade contract extension with Chapman, who can become a free agent five days after the 2016 World Series.
I didn't like it when I thought we were going to extend his contract. Now I really don't like it. Torres + Warren + 2 more prospects is way too much for 2 months of any reliever. I don't care if it's Mo Rivera in his prime.
Sahadev Sharma @sahadevsharma 43s43 seconds ago Along with Warren and Torres, hearing Billy McKinney and one other going to the Yankees.
If they think Warren and McKinney sweetens the pot so be it. Those guys are irrelevant for me. The Castro deal was to free up money for Zobrist. Warren was awful here.
If we got Chapman and Miller for Gleyber, Warren, McKinney, and one other that would be robbery IMO. Gleyber, Warren, McKinney, plus one more just for Chapman seems like too much to me, and I'm for trading Gleyber-Chapman.
Warren and McKinney aren't rags. They aren't elite guys but it was only a few months ago that McKinney was considered a top 75 prospect in baseball and Cubs fans celebrated the Castro deal.
Yeah I could give two shits at McKinney being thrown in. I wouldn't do Torres for 1 year of any reliever straight up, however.
Jon Heyman @JonHeyman 6m6 minutes ago Yanks and Cubs have a deal. Torres, mckinney, Warren and likely 1 more to NYY.
So we got: Ross Contreras Montero Rizzo Zobrist Baez Russell La Stella Bryant Fowler Heyward Szczur Arrieta Lester Lackey Hendricks Hammel Wood Nathan Grimm Montgomery Richard Edwards Strop Rondon Chapman That's 26. Surely that means Richard is gone, right? Right? RIGHT? What do we do when Soler comes back? Can't really send Szczur down. He brings a decent amount to the table with his pinch hitting ability and the glove/speed. La Stella is similar. Grimm back to Iowa with only 8 in the bullpen? Let Soler stay in Iowa and get ABs until September. Cogs is in a similar boat although he's probably an afterthought at this point. I'm just trying to get an idea of what the roster looks like come postseason. I would think Hammel to the pen and Grimm or Nathan get deactivated. Although a lot can happen between now and then still.
I bet Contreras goes down when Soler is activated. Richard is gone. I think Hammel will be left off of the playoff roster as will one of Grimm or Nathan.

No way Contreras goes down. He's started the last 30ish games and he's our best catcher at this point.
And most of his starts have been in the outfield. They'll let him go to Iowa and catch for a month and then he'll be right back up.
ESPNVerified account @espn 7m7 minutes ago BREAKING: Cubs acquire closer Aroldis Chapman in 5-player deal with Yankees. The details: Bad asset management but they are better for the rest of this season. Whatever.
I think Warren still has a chance to be good. He seems like he's lost confidence in his stuff. Regain that and I think he'll be fine. I agree on McKinney becoming not much more than a 4th or 5th outfielder. Couple of guys who could be useful still on top of Torres. Let's hope Chapman closes out game 7 of the World Series. Fucking clown.
I don't think so. He's still catching 2-3 times a week. Can't be comfortable with Miggy Mendoza line and Granpa Ross handling it all at this point.
None of us in the thread had literally anything to do with this trade. I think that has more to do with Dexter Fowler and other key injuries than it does light bats and pitch framing.
