Just fucking unbelievable. Heynckes fucked up big time with that decision. Don't fucking change what has worked the whole game. Mueller was THE best player on the field today. What the fuck are you doing taking HIM off? I'd understand if it was DVB for Gomez, but Mueller?????!!! What the fuck are you thinking?

Amazing game! I never thought Chelsea would pull it out. As a Chelsea fan I thought barca would certainly beat us and beating bayern in Germany is a great feat! What a might for Chelsea I wish I was still living in London to celebrate

bayern's own fault for being convinced that robben and ribery are good players. they deserve every heartbreak they get until they learn better

Ribery is still a very good player. I fucking knew Robben was going to miss as soon as I saw him step up. That's something either Gomez, Mueller (way to go Heynckes), or Lahm needs to take.

ribery is terrible. he stagnated and destroyed nearly every offensive chance today. he, like robben, is completely disruptive and predictable. get possession, stare at your own feet, and cut inside horizontally. try to shoot on my favored foot.

the modern game has passed both by. defenses are too good to be that one dimensional. you have to be able to incisively attack the goal vertically and be able to see passes and runs - which, aside from being intelligent, means you cant stare at your own feet.

watching robben and ribery is the most frustrating thing in soccer

the only thing more frustrating is listening to american and english commentators gush about both players. i hope (pray) that the german media crucifies them as much as jupp and gomez.

kick both out and buy schurrle. put muller out on the wing and kroos at the 10.

at least lamb and muller looked like they wanted to win the game. with chelsea pulling a greece, bayern needed a healthy schweini to muscle through the middle somehow.

bayern should've won the game despite their terrible wingers. hopefully basti's confidence isnt completely ruined for euro 2012

Agreed on Kroos at the 10 and Mueller on the wing. Robben needs to leave. I have a spot in my heart for Ribery for some reason (very fun to watch some games) so there might still be a place in the team for him, but him and Robben just can't co-exist. I'd love to get Schurrle.

Robben and Ribery together is just way too much head down dribbling shot first mentality for my liking. They are both extremely talented but Robben isn't half the player he was 2 years ago and Ribery has been pretty wasteful in the recent games I've watched.

Like Kross a lot but didn't have his best game today. How Muller wasn't in the first XI a lot of the year is amazing.

Think Bayern should move for Giroud and can have rest Gomez some and play them together. Great player who would come cheap.

    ---Gomez--
    Ribery--Kross-Muller
    --Bastian---Gustavo

Then Giroud, Robben, Shaqiri as offensive options. Defense isn't very good but Dante should help it.

I have not been following soccer long and still learning a lot but watching today I just kept commenting on how Ribery was killing trips down the pitch for Bayern.

Also they seemed content to just move the ball around the perimeter until it got knocked out for a corner but they were awful on corners

Robben is the most overrated player in the world and its not close. Always cracks me up when the English media hype him as one of Bayern's best players. I disagree about Ribery CAS. He's a beast and in great form. He had 12 goals and 20 assists in the BL this year. Anyone catch his goal against Dortmund last week? World fucking class.

Bayern should dump Robben and his massive ego. They've already got the pieces to replace him now and can likely buy a quality youngster or two with his transfer fee.

Dante can occasionally play LB which would enable Alaba to play wing when necessary. So you'd have Mueller, Ribery, and Shaqiri as your primary wings and Alaba on an as needed basis. Alaba has started to show it this season, but I think he will show next season that he's a world class player. With those 3 or 4 wingers, you don't need Robben anymore. Cash in on him while you can.

how did ribery play today on the biggest stage? did he even attempt to create for others once? when your shot isnt on, and they're defending your pet move perfectly, can you adjust? ribery didn't. instead, he turned it over and over.

bayern's best chances came from lahm and muller. unfortunately, until the issue was pressed, lahm deferred to both of the wingers instead of taking over for himself. when he did, bayern looked most dangerous. olic should've put it away 2-1.

You can't judge players from one game. If you did, you would also think Mario Gomez is complete dogshit.

Ribery had a bad game, but that is the exception, not the norm for him. Robben on the other hand has 1 good game for every 2 mediocre or poor ones.

Ribery was shit today, yes, but he was an immense help in getting them to that stage today. I've watched a LOT of Bayern games this year and Ribery does not take the team on his back like he was trying to do today very often at all. I have no idea what the fuck he was thinking when he had overlapping runs to lay the ball off to, but it was obnoxious and killed several attacks.

And Gunners, all indications are we are moving for Giroud. Your prospective lineup looks good. I don't want Robben on this team next year. He is as "look at me" as it gets and it is fucking infuriating.

it's equally falliable to judge players on the merits of racking up good stats against shit teams and apologizing for their play against the big boys because of it.

things i enjoyed: neville's unabashed lionhearted patriotism and when he called out gomez for doing what we all hate: trying to be a complete soccer player and failing miserably instead of a statuesque pure finisher.

on the same token, unfortunately for gomez, the reason he'll never feature prominently for the dfb is just that - what he does best is goal poach with one touch. if he's asked to create or tries to create, even if its putting the ball on one foot instead of the other, he fails both comically and miserably.

Robben would be tolerable if his finishing wasn't so awful recently.

Gomez is ok. Don't think he's elite but he's a good striker, great in getting himself in position for goals, finishing just seems a little erratic but he produces. See what he does for the Germans this summer.

that's the point: robben and ribery are only tolerable if finishing isn't awful. because all they can do is stare at their feet and create for themselves. when the finishing point of that is off, they have nothing to turn to. when a team tactically shuts that part of their game down, where do they go?

would barca take either? no, because they cannot and will not pass. instead of creating space with movement, they stand still and wait for someone to pass it to them so they can dribble horizontally and kick it 30 yards above the target. ribery had countless chances to play the ball off to either an overlapping fullback or muller cutting off his run. instead, he gets pouty and turns it over.

i bet if robben and ribery were german they wouldn't start like gomez doesn't start. there's no room for such limited players in the modern game.

Iniesta is pretty much the ideal wing, besides the Ox of course. He dribbles with his head up but is pass first, can score, and tracks back well.

And they wouldn't start because Low isn't retarded and starting Robben over Muller and Ribery doesn't offer more than Gotze or Podolski do on the left.

podolski is a clear shoot first winger who should be a striker but cant, just like robben and ribery

the difference is, at least for germany, that podolski has striven to integrate himself with the style of the team. he passes and for the most part stays out of the way instead of demanding the ball and congesting the attack.

almost all of germany's goals are created on the right through ozil, muller, and klose. podolski has realized his limitations and smartly plays within them.

jury is still out on whether he can translate that to the club - arsenal is a good test.

robben and ribery because of ego think the best option for their team every time down is for them to have the ball and for them to shoot the ball.

What pisses me off about Robben and Ribery is that looking down and trying to beat an individual allows the defense to fill in completely and limits their passing options if they do beat someone. We saw that a lot tonight.

In hindsight, just amazed at Dortmund's failure in the group stages this season, they'll be the clear favorites for their 3rd straight BL title with the youngest team in Europe. Then if they can add Pizarro to replace Barrios, damn.

Sad that they were running through such poor form at the beginning of the season. Told my friends who don't watch German soccer to watch Dortmund in the Champions and they thought i was high.

Robben taking the PK was the worst decision of the day.

They were decent vs us. Even with Hummels though they give up too many clear chances and RVP buried them. That and their possession had no end product.

They were absolute shit vs a bad Marseille side for some reason. They were bad in Europa too the year before.

I love Dortmund, they seem to know how to break down German teams and play that style but fail to adjust to other styles. Something Klopp needs to work on. Having a difference maker like Reus though should help them adjust.

Robben and Ribery are "me first" players in every sense. That only works for a team like Barcelona where all of the players feed into Messi being god, hence why Barca got rid of Ronaldinho and even Eto'o to a certain extent. Having two of those players in the same team is nightmarish.

And I still don't understand how defenders let Robben cut them inside. I mean fuck, every chance he gets that's what he's doing.

messi is bad but messi also can use both feet and dribble at goal instead of horizontally parallel to it, which is a very key distinction and why it works for him

aside from having the greatest close control of all time

Messi gets frustrating at times because he constantly has opportunities to lay it off to wide open teammates but instead loses the ball vs 5 guys. To be honest, I don't see why the rest of the team loves him as much as they do. I mean yeah he's fucking ridiculous, but for the most part his mentality is that he's scoring or nobody's scoring.

He also has the Robben "I can't take PKs" syndrome.

Messi makes a ton of killer passes when I see him. Plus it's not like anyone gets in the box. I'd love him too if I was his teammate, he's the only end product Barcelona have.
