Will Uruguay look significantly different come 2014? Forlan probably won't be on the team and Lugano will be 33 but should still be able to compete as a central defender. Any young studs coming up through the ranks to look out for?
They have been really successful at the U-20 and U-17 levels recently and Suarez/Cavani are still going to be in their primes. Their other central defender in this tournament, Coates, is a young, future champions league club player and Diego Godin is still in his mid 20's. This team is set up to be a legit contender for the next cycle or 2. At this point, only Spain is clearly better, with Brazil(home team) and Germany likely to be the other top 4 favorites.
Considering it is in South America, Uruguay certainly have to be up there. SA countries always come up big in SA WC's.
Just looked it up, 6 times the WC has been held in South America or Mexico (I guess you can say 7 with the US), and every time a South American country has lifted the trophy.
