Good, because I picked him tonight. If he just gets back to what he did in 2010, I got a bargain where I got him.
  2. SCrebel

SCrebel Strictly a suit and tie motherfucker.

Yeah, because of the injury he got into some really bad habits while trying to overcompensate for the injury in his swing. It didn't help that our hitting coach last year sucked and got fired basically because he couldn't communicate with the younger guys like Heyward. He's still a work in progress, but I'm expecting a good year.
  3. i'm a sucker for high risk/reward. usually why i end up losing. Reyes, Crawford, Heyward, Goldschmidt, LoMo, Josh Johnson, Santana. this is like my dream team
  4. MG2

MG2 Still celebrating the Jim Schwartz era

I've got Goldschmidt in two leagues now because I haven't had any of the top 1b and there's such a massive drop off. I'm not sure what to make of Josh Johnson, but I had a moment where I started to think of him along with Verlander/Kershaw and thought it was too good to pass up.
  5. depends on where you got him or how much you got him for. in my 10 team mixed, i got him with the 132nd pick. i don't know how much stock you put in it, but i listened to an interview with espn's physical therapist lady, stephania bell, where she talked about his rehab before last year vs. this year. i'm a total layman, so this will sound like a layman recounting what she said. apparently last year, JJ was working out like he was training for a world's strongest man competition, thinking it would make his shoulder stronger, when really it didn't do anything to strengthen it. if anything, apparently it caused more stress on it. this year, he was doing more specialized stuff. range of motion with super light weights. basically stuff that you only do if you're a pitcher, and he said his shoulder's never felt stronger. watch him blow it out in may
  6. Travis Snider was apparently sent down to the minors. Keep an eye on Eric Thames from Toronto, especially if he ends up hitting 2nd, which is definitely possible. Good power, walks a decent amount. Couldn't hit left-handed pitching for shit last year, but he's young.

First Draft, I'm not sure how I feel about the line-up. Let me know what you think. 12-man head to head league.

    C - Miguel Montero
    1B - Albert Pujols
    2B - Dan Uggla
3B - Hanley Rameriez (Once he qualifies, listed only at SS right now)
    SS - Asdrubal Cabera
    LF - Delmon Young
    CF - Michael Bourn
    RF - Corey Hart
    Utility - Gaby Sanchez (1B)
Bench - Emilio Bonifacio (SS, 3B, LF)
    Bench - Adam Dunn (1B)

I got Adam Dunn with my last pick so no real risk and potentially high upside. Bonifacio should be a decent filler while I wait for Hanley to become 3B eligible.

    SP - Jered Weaver
    SP - Mat Latos
    SP - Anibal Sanchez
    SP - Colby Lewis
    SP - Jonathan Sanchez
    RP - Craig Kimbrel
    RP - Joel Hanrahan
    Bench - Jair Jurrjens
    Bench - Randy Wolf
Bench - Jonny Venters (2nd to last pick, meant to pick someone else and fucked up, decent handcuff if Kimbrel goes down, but it'll likely be used as a drop spot for SPs anyways.)

This was probably the weirdest draft I've seen. SP yet EARLY and often. 3rd pick was Kershaw and fourth was Verlander.

Mauer is one of the guys I've had the hardest time with. I think he's going to have a pretty big year in just about every non-HR category, and guys like him give more value than most catchers because they play so many games even when they don't catch.

I've been offered a trade in a h2h points and keeper league. There's no keeper inflation, so you get the player for the rest of his career in the round he was taken in. That's only relevant with the two prospects in this deal.

    I would give up:

    Alexei Ramirez
    Bryce Harper (15th round keeper)
    Mat Latos
    12th round pick

    I would receive:

    Asdrubal Cabrera
    Mike Trout (14th round keeper)
    13th round pick

    Here is my current roster:

    C: Alex Avila
    1B: Eric Hosmer
    2B: Brandon Phillips
    SS: Alexei Ramirez
    3B: Adrian Beltre
    LF: Delmon Young
    CF: BJ Upton
    RF: Justin Upton
    Util: Jay Bruce
    Bench: Bryce Harper

    SP: Felix Hernandez

If you think Cabrera is going to build on last season and stay at that level for a few years, I guess I could see making that deal. I think it's pretty likely he regresses, though, so I wouldn't do it. Makes some sense to deal an arm or two for a SS with your roster, though.

I'd probably say no on that. Would rather have Harper than Trout in fantasy, although in a league where it matters what position they play (i.e. LF, CF, RF vs. OF, OF, OF) it certainly makes it more interesting.

I don't think Asdrubal makes up the difference there, even with Alexei Ramirez being almost totally irrelevant fantasy-wise. Let alone with Latos added in and losing a 12th rounder for a 13th rounder. I'm not a huge believer in Asdrubal yet though.

Alright, went away from the Asdrubal/Ramirez deal but the guy is still coming after a pitcher.

    Would you do this trade?

    It's a head-to-head keeper points league.

I would give up Brandon Phillips, Bryce Harper and Brandon Morrow. I would receive Ian Kinsler and Mike Trout.

I consider the prospects a better fit for me because I can use Trout as my CF keeper for a long time with Justin Upton locked into RF for me. The 2B upgrade is obvious. As you can see with my staff below, I've got a lot of depth to be okay with losing Morrow.

    Would you do that trade?

    Here is my current roster:

    C: Alex Avila
    1B: Eric Hosmer

Yeah I know...took them with 2 of my last 5 picks, will stash them on the DL ASAP and then will use the available roster space for stopgaps/prospects until they are good to go. Our league only allows three keepers so I don't worry too much about stashing prospects during the draft
  31. EnriqeShockwave

    EnriqeShockwave New Member

Thanks for the input. I ended up doing Phillips, Morrow and Jaime Garcia for Kinsler. Might've got the worse part of that trade, but I've still got my top five starters (Felix H, Price, Matt Moore, Bumgarner and Latos) still on my team. Turns my lineup into this.

    C: Alex Avila
    1B: Eric Hosmer
    2B: Ian Kinsler
    SS: Alexei Ramirez
    3B: Adrian Beltre
    LF: Delmon Young
    CF: BJ Upton
    RF: Justin Upton

May or may not have got the best of the trade, but I love Kinsler and was dealing from an area of strength.

Team B gets I. Kinsler, D.Jennings, and Cory Luebke

probably take B but it's a close one. Utley and Kinsler are both studs when healthy but get hurt often these days. Price a little better than Leubke. Upton a little better than Jennings. Kinsler decent amount better than Utley. pretty fair all around IYAM

Team B if this is a keeper league. Utley has arthritic knees and his future looks grim. He should hold very little value right now. If not a keeper, I'd bank on sophomore slumps from Jennings and Luebke and take A regardless of Utley's health.
  47. MG2

MG2 Still celebrating the Jim Schwartz era

I don't get this at all. I wouldn't trade Upton and Price for Kinsler, Jennings and Luebke in a traditional or keeper league, but especially not in a keeper league.

well you are undervaluing Jennings and Luebke IMO. Luebke has a very high ceiling in everything except Ws due to his lineup
  49. nofatchix

    nofatchix Pitchfork Assassin

Yeah, it's a definite no in a keeper league. Kinsler and Upton are pretty close in terms of value for the upcoming season, but long-term I'm sticking with Upton without thinking twice. Same with Price over Luebke. I'd obviously take Jennings over Utley as a keeper, but I don't think he quite makes up the gaps in the other two.

I might do it in a yearly league though. Depends on the rest of my roster, and if I had any confidence in Luebke repeating his 2011 over 180+ innings as a starter (I'd expect a decent dip in his K/9 numbers at the very least).

I like Kinsler an awful lot though. I'm just waiting to see him put up a year like 2011 or 2009 where he also has any sort of normal BABIP. He'd be an absolute fantasy monster.
  50. MG2

MG2 Still celebrating the Jim Schwartz era

Jennings and Luebke are both unlikely to ever be as good as Upton or Price right now, and both of those players are still trending up. Kinsler is really good, but give me Upton easily over anyone in that deal, long term or just this year. I like Kinsler, but not on that level.
