This is basically how I use my watch. A glorified Fitbit. Battery sucks. I bought a metallic band to see if I'd wear it more often outside of exercise, but rather go with my standard watch collection and just allow my phone to notify me of emails and texts.
Interesting to hear how people are using it. I really have never seen a need for it. I think the biggest benefit for me would be to see messages come in when I cant check my phone, like in a meeting or something. Definitely not a reason to get one.
It comes in handy sometimes yes, while driving I feel less distracted dictating text responses to the watch than if I had to get out a phone and unlock, launch the app etc. And the fitness applications are really pretty useful, imho.
I want one but the last few pages validated me not getting one. If (like the Samsung one) I could use it without my phone I'd get one. I want one to work out with but lack of gps makes it useless on runs and rides.
Rumor is that the second generation will be able to work without the phone (assuming you have a data plan for it)
I use mine to workout without a phone all the time. You can load music directly onto the watch and play to BT headphones directly from the watch. I like not having to worry about the phone falling out of my pocket, and just generally not having that added bulk. You do lose the ability to track altitude, so you don't get accurate hill climbing stats, which matters very little if running on a treadmill. Also, great to go to the gym carrying ONLY my keys and watch, having fitness tracking, music, and ability to apple pay for post workout food/drink.
I don't do any cardio at the gym. All my cardio is out doors. For me it would be spending at least 300 just so I wouldn't have to carry my phone. If what Harvey Updyke says is true and I can get one that has wifi for outdoor cardio and gps tracking then it will be a done deal. As I've gotten older I have gotten a lot cheaper and need to be able to justify a purchase.
I never really thought the apple watch was worth it but now with the price drop I'm really considering picking one up. A little worried once the newness of it wears off Ill be back to my old watches and it will sit on the nightstand unless I go for a run or something though.
I am in your shoes, but my outlook goes like this... buy it, try it, if i don't like it, take the damn thing back. if i do like it, well great. HTH.
Yeah that's exactly what I did. There was a slickdeal back before xmas that involved a Target pricematch to best buy + $100 target gift card. Effectively got mine for $150. I still have 3 weeks to return it if I were to want to do that.
damn, was just looking online and saw the price jump back up to $349 for the 42mm. Was $299 last week.
Anyone have a MacBook? My 2012 Air is near death and I'm debating between getting another Air (currently have 11", would probably get that again) or the MacBook. Besides Retina and being slightly smaller is there anything that makes it more worth it? Pretty much all I use it for is internet, personal financial spreadsheets in Excel, and streaming every once in awhile so the slightly weaker processing power for the MacBook isn't a huge deal to me.
I've had the Macbook for 2 weeks now. It would handle everything it sounds like you'd be using it for, which basically what I'm using it for at work and home with a desktop for more intensive stuff from time to time. It really is very easy to carry around during the day if that's part of what you'll need it for. It does have a different keyboard with much less key travel that I didn't like at first, but now may actually prefer. The one usb-c port thing hasn't caused me any problems so far, but I just use cloud storage for everything. I did buy at hub/adapter thing I can use if needed, but it stays in my bag all the time so far. I don't think it's really worth it's standard price (especially since you can get a 13" pro at around the same number) unless you really like its form factor/using OS X, but it looks like it's still on sale at Best Buy. If you can find an open box one to drop it more I think it becomes a more reasonable deal, which is what I was able to do.
picked up a watch this past weekend finally, got a good deal on it. watch owners, any tips or tricks i should know? tia.
I looked at the macbook when I bought the air. It's great for what it is but I'm at facilities without internet far too often to rely on cloud based storage and needed the ports. They're both great machines. No comparison to windows based stuff. I think the macbook is several hundred too expensive but would buy one if I found a deal.
Which company has the best deal for a new iphone 6se? I got my last 2 phones at best buy, but maybe the apple store is better. TIA.
Are any carriers still offering credits for buying iPhones? Mine is up soon, but I know Verizon and AT&T are both trying to trick you into financing it yourself and calling it the "Next Plan" or something.
Downloaded El Capitan on my MBA the other day, and my battery just drains when it is off the charger now. It probably has less than half the battery life it did before the download. Anyone else have this issue? Apologize if it has been discussed, didn't read through the thread.
It is probably just re-indexing. Go to Activity Monitor>CPU tab and sort by %CPU and see what the highest % items are
I just got the 12.9 iPad Pro. What case do people use? Keyboard? Is the pen worth it? I am looking for a protective case that doesn't add too much weight. TIA
Quicktime file> new screen recording. Then the down arrow by record select built in internal speakers if you want audio

I hate this. I use cheap headphones because Im really rough on them. I have no desire to use bluetooth or big clunky head sets. Just want small ear buds
Really stupid idea unless they're going to have multiple lightning ports. Once the battery degrades enough there are inevitably times I'm using earbuds and recharging. Maybe they're looking to cash grab on people buying an adapter to split the lightning port?
