You won't see the 4k resolution on a retina mbp or air or macbook but you can still edit it and wherever it's uploaded will take the 4k resolution. It's not like you have to see the clarity difference between 4k and 1080p to edit.
Got a refurb mbp in 2010 that is still rolling like a champ. All I've done is upgraded the ram otherwise have done nothing to it. Used it all-day, every-day to run my liquor store POS system for 2 years (not exactly what it's meant to do) and not a single problem.
My eyes probably can't even tell the difference on a laptop screen so that works, will any of them work about the same- looks like the 8 gb is standard, and processors are all around the same
If you're going to be editing 4k files then I'd suggest going MBP so you can get 16gb of RAM. 8GB will work but you may notice some locking up from time to time due to that kind of file size. And the processors in that lineup are all fine. No need to spend $250 or whatever to upgrade it. That's better spent on RAM than processor.
How difficult is it to upgrade RAM in the aluminum MacBooks? I bought mine in 2008 and it still runs great, but I want to upgrade from 2GB to 4 GB.
not hard at all check macsales.com for a video and pricing if you need to buy but you need a 002 phillips head then ground yourself then unplug the battery then just pop out the ram (literally like popping out AA batteries)
Might as well upgrade the hard drive as well. SSDs are getting so cheap now and the performance improvements you will see will be much more noticeable than the RAM upgrade (still upgrade the ram though). I've put SSDs in a bunch of older computers and it's like having a brand new computer.
Got my refurbished MacBook Air in last night. Haven't had a mac since ~09. Need to get Microsoft office on there. Any advice for changing preferences/downloading apps/what Internet browser to use and other shit like that?
Hi. Need a mac that is gonna just be a work computer. main program it will run outside of standard microsoft office programs is Quickbooks. Down the road it may end up needing to run a couple of accounting programs in which I'd need to be able to run 2-3 screens. That part is a cross the bridge when we get there, but is it possible with this mac listed? If not, not that big of a deal with this Mac listed do the main Office + Quickbooks pretty easily?
I'd just recommend making sure the computer has at least 8GB ram, everything else is good. As far as additional displays, you can hook 1 directly to the mac and then it'd be on the other display to be able to take the 3rd.
iPhone thread got lost in the crash, right? Time for an upgrade, do I wait for the 6S or just get the 6 now? Do I dare consider other phones (S6)? Apple Maps has been pissing me off for a while (not loading the map, being late with the redirects, etc.) It might be due to really old phone but the only thing that's making me think about switching is Google Maps.
Does anyone have an Apple watch? My wife won one at work and gave it to me. I wouldn't have bought it in a million years but I actually like it. Not sure I'd pay $500 for it, but I do like it.
Need Google to integrate all of Waze's reporting features into Google Maps. Love Waze but don't care for the interface.
i honestly don't know shit about computers other than its really light and its fast and i can TMB on it. all i need really
jailbreak for 8.3 finally arrived this week. Planning on doing it next week after all the bugs have hopefully been found and solved. I have the watch. I fully admit that it's not really necessary and is much too expensive for what I use it for, but I like it. Been pretty good for quickly answering texts since the voice recognition/dictation has been surprisingly accurate.
Upgrade to the latest if it isn't already, tweak some preferences (http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/24/speed-up-os-x-yosemite-mac). Use Chrome and download Transmission for torrance. Get your microsoft office and shit from that point.
13" MacBook Pro on the way to my Apple store. Will have a raging tech boner on the way to pick it up next week
Yea. I like it so far I guess. Im not a big music person so I think part of what i like about it is I can maybe be better and start making playlists and they will be on all my apple shit.
Finally caved and bought the watch on Saturday. I love it. Such a great accessory and I love not pulling my phone out so much. Also love it at work because I can easily check texts/alerts without it appearing like I'm on my phone all day. Got the 42mm sport aluminum with white band. Found a pretty awesome looking stainless band for it on amazon. 5 star average reviews and a lot of the reviews posted pics of it as well. Only $35
I totally agree. I like how they kind of make playlists/recommend artists based on who you like. Figured why not try it for 3 months free.
There are 5-6 pre written texts you can reply with as well as 5-6 more you can add yourself. It's really convenient. You can also have Siri text for you, which is real easy, but only when you're by yourself.
Love my 11" MBA. Perfect size as mobile as I am. And I want to like Waze, but it is always on and sucks battery life. There is no way around it, is there?
I'm actually enjoying the Beats 1 station. I rolled my eyes when they announced a live station along with the streaming but I think it may work and do well. If anyone is looking for a game, do yourself a favor and get Geometry Wars 3:Dimensions. It's worth the $4.99.
Pretty much anything Siri can do. You can make calls from it (speakerphone) Texting is cool because you can use one of the common replies (yes, ok, talk later) or you can speak a reply and it will give you the option to send as an audio file of what you just said or as the converted audio to text
thought apple music was ok. they are pretty obviously a few years late on the streaming thing so nothing new there, but the beats radio station was nice. was listening to the st vincent curated mix show last night and enjoyed it. biggest downside so far is that it doesnt scrobble to last.fm
I downloaded Waze and noticed the battery life take a dip. It's also kinda glitchy - e.g. It asks me to take a picture of a place I just navigated to but then asks me what the picture is of. It also took three texts to set up my account. I haven't left my town since downloading it, so I'll keep it until I can test it on a road trip but i might switch.
Fucking updated iTunes is a (not responding)-fest. Have yet to be able to do anything with it. Also, there was something on reddit about turning off your Automatic Renewals so that you won't forget to cancel Apple Music before it charges you. From iTunes, Account>View Account, scroll all the way down, "subscriptions" or something, then turn automatic renewal off. I would be able to give you more details but my fucking iTunes won't even open. Fuck.
