Bert, Couple things, first, I have never complained that Bert stood up recruits or was out drinking while recruiting visits were going on. I never complained because I never heard about it from a reliable source. It was always message board grumbling. I admit I wouldn't have been surprised if it indeed happened, but I never bitched about it. I could care less what the fanbase used to complain about Bret. I don't read Hogville as I spent enough time there during the Nutt years complaining about Nutt and his squad of goons. If he wants to let loose on weekends when they don't have recruits, that's one thing. The issue I have is it seems like it was a consistent theme where people joked about how often he was getting fucked up. It may have been a couple times or it may have been excessive. I know we never heard stories of Petrino getting fucked up on Dickson. You don't hear the stories about Morris doing that. In fact you hear the opposite. With Morris, the stories I hear have been that he basically lives at the Athletic facility and requires his coaches to do the same. They are there at 5 am on some days getting started and posting sunrise pics on social media. Was Bret and his staff doing that? I honestly don't know, but I do know when I drink and get fucked up, its a bitch getting up the next morning. I understand a lot of people think Bret is a "good guy". The challenge I have with that is, we didn't pay 3.2 million a year for a "good guy". Houston Nutt was a "Good Guy". We paid for results, plain a simple. I work in Sales, and while I am a "good guy", this is a results oriented business. If I don't close deals, I don't get paid, and I don't keep my job. We paid Bret to get us results and plain and simple he fucked us. If you signed a contract with a contractor to do a remodel of your home, and showed up late, did a great job on the kitchen, but then started slacking off on the rest, and finally just started mailing it in, and then when you told him you were fired, he sued you for the remaining amount of the contract, I would imagine you would be pissed. Thats basically what Bret did. We signed a contract, he failed to live up to the details of the contract and when fired, he sued us for the remainder. Overall, I don't hate Bret, or Ned for that matter. What bothers me is if Bret had tried to, we all think he could have done well here. If he had put in the effort, he could have been a successful coach. The issue is he was lazy. He didn't care. We paid him a huge extension and held up our end of the deal, but he just said fuck it and gave us the finger. He slacked off and stopped giving a fuck. He then left us with nothing for talent for Morris to clean up. He might have been a good guy, but he made a conscious choice to stop giving the effort. I don't hate a guy who gives it 100% but its just not enough to get it done. It bothers me about a guy who gives 20% and is fully capable of giving 100% but doesn't because he doesn't want to. That's the definition of fucking us. As far as Ned, he might be another great guy who you like a lot. However, he is coming off here as an asshole. When you make comments like this: You’re also an ignorant asshole if all you have taken from my posting is me defending Bret. You notice how me and bertwing never debate shit, maybe it’s because he’s the only one with a brain full of realistic expectation. You are a group of dumb mother fuckers because you can’t grasp other people’s views. Grow the fuck up and learn how to read, it’d help your ability to understand and converse Yea, he seems like a swell guy. I had never once insulted him or tried to talk down to him. I apologize if my comment about Tulsa was interpreted incorrectly. I covered Tulsa for Rivals part time when Graham and Malzahn was there, so I have a lot of respect for the Tulsa program. They have high academic standards and still manage to compete in the CUSA. The comparison is simply that recruiting at Tulsa is no where close to what it is at Arkansas. My comment was never meant as an insult. It was meant to establish that Arkansas requires a much higher level of effort than Tulsa. So if he wants to talk about the Slaw fans in this thread like that, then thread ban his ass. We don't deserve that. No one here has tried to attack him. We have definitely disagreed with him, but no one called him out until he started posting this shit. So yea I responded in kind. He can get the fuck out of this thread if he feels that way.
bert and his staff were definitely also at the facility a ton and posted the same shit on social media. i really don't get the animosity towards him.
I don't know Bret. I only know what I've read and what I've been told. He didn't seem like a bad guy but it sounded and looked like he didn't give a fuck about doing his job. Especially with the results he put on the field... ... and that he did a shit job here at Arkansas. Chad might have had the worst season in history, but Bret's constant crying, promising, and overall teams performance and their attitudes were pretty fucking terrible... and the recruiting was even worse... and I don't know Ned either but acting like a fucking white-knight for Bret to a bunch of pissed off angry Arkansas fans is about as retarded as you can be if you aren't expecting a rebuttal. Especially if you are calling us retard slaw fans or whatever the fuck he said... and as you know Bert, I have no problem randomly sending Ned a pic of my nuts in an inappropriate situation, hopefully at a board meeting or when he is eating dinner with his in-laws. And now we can move on to other news... Any idea who all is for sure out for the San Jose game? The worst thing that could happen after this "GREAT" win of the Chad era is we slip and fall to these guys... Which being Arkansas, I can see happening...
You guys could play only your second string and you should smack SJSU. Tulsa went to San Jose and dominated them
San Jose State might be the worst team in D1 So frustrating that we didn’t start Starkel at Ole Miss. would’ve had a chance to be 4-0 heading into swaggy game
crash course on "we are Arkansas" We had Bear Bryant on his way to be our coach but then WWII happened. After Lou Holtz left, Frank Broyles, Athletic Director, snubbed Jimmy Johnson in favor of Ken Hatfield. He instead went to Miami. Frank passed on Tommy Tubberville in favor of Houston Nutt. Tubberville ended up at Auburn. Frank convinced Houston Nutt to stay in 2004 when Nebraska came calling. Butch Davis was waiting in the wings to take the job but instead...Nutt. Jeff Long passed on Gus in 2012, in favor of Bielema, simply because he wrote a nice letter to him And that's just football
butch davis almost ended up getting unc basketball titles vacated which should be idiot proof. its probably for the best you kept nutt although i do love butch
I have a friend who played out of state. I once teased him and said while other schools are giving out cars, we are giving out bikes. He laughed and said I wasn't wrong
Is this true or are you just tugging on my heart strings? Already found out one of my “friends” is a piece of shit liar today
I think we’ll be pretty good tbh, especially if we get Kyree Walker like we’re expected to at mid term
https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/a...he-razorbacks-bowl-quality-with-nick-starkel/ Spoiler Not much was expected this season. Very few were even optimistic enough to give the Hogs a fighting chance to qualify for a bowl game. Not even with perceived gunslinger quarterback Ben Hicks coming over from SMU to reunite with coach Chad Morris. All that to say that most believed Arkansas would have a losing record in 2019. But that was before Nick Starkel wrestled the QB reins from Hicks. And give credit to Morris for doing so early in the season rather than allowing his team to continue to flounder with the prospect of being hammered for a 3rd consecutive season in the SEC. In 1 start, Starkel has lifted the spirits of a fan base and suddenly given hope that the team just might be able to add to its 1 conference victory since the 2016 season. Granted, there are still some among us who haven’t climbed aboard the Starkel Bandwagon, but others are already drawing the comparisons to what Ryan Mallet accomplished. Those were the days, weren’t they? Back-to-back double-digit win seasons (2010-11) punctuated by Sugar and Cotton Bowl berths. When Mallett set the standard for 300-yard passing games at 10. Now we’re not going to get crazy here and blow air up your khakis, but last Saturday Starkel recorded his first 300-yard passing game as a Razorback and his 3 touchdown passes helped the Hogs improve to 2-1 for the season with a blowout 55-34 victory over Colorado State. It’s a start. Remember, Starkel posted two 400-yard passing games in 2017 as a starter with Texas A&M and was 1 yard shy of 500 in one of those, a 55-52 loss to Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl. So what can we expect, what can we hope for moving forward as we look down the schedule? No sense in lamenting the Ole Miss loss even though there is clear indication that the outcome could have been a lot different with Starkel at the helm. And that victory, had it been secured, would have made bowl aspirations a definite possibility. Nonetheless, carrying on with Starkel cemented as the starting quarterback, we can look at the remaining opponents and see the postseason isn’t just a pipedream. A victory over San Jose State on Saturday is obviously crucial and that would give the Hogs their 3rd ‘W’ of the season. Where would the other 3 victories come from that would make Arkansas bowl eligible? Well, winning the final nonconference game against Western Kentucky is a must. Starkel gives the Razorbacks a chance to win their Homecoming game with Mississippi State in early November. It could quite possibly come down to the final game of the season. Arkansas might be holding 5 victories when it hosts Missouri in late November. Is the prospect of 2 conference victories out of the question? Starkel gives the Razorbacks that hope, that optimism for a chance at a bowl game this season. His veteran leadership, strong arm, and knowledge of the game at this level is what gives Arkansas a legitimate shot at the postseason. It’s what we thought we might get from Hicks. But Starkel has proven to be a solid quarterback against SEC competition. His performance last Saturday was only the beginning. It will be interesting to watch Starkel’s continued development with an emerging set of young receivers.
The amount of people excited about us beating Colorado State when they had a field goal attempt to lead in the 4th is insane
I'm not a chad fanboy but beating colorado state by 21 is excitable after barely beating portland fucking state
sort of agree. the 21 point win was pretty misleading though. we should crush SJSU this weekend. and then be ~21 point dogs to a 2-2 swaggy team
I am not thrilled with beating CSU or PSU, both games were ugly and full of fuckups both on the offense and defense. I am actually excited though to see us moving the ball and taking shots down field. As mentioned, last year we got blown out by MSU and Mizzou because we had receivers who couldn't catch and QBs who couldn't throw. Its a shitty combo which allowed those teams to stack the box, and blitz the shit out of us. The simple fact that Stark can execute a downfield passing offense with accuracy and timing, means teams have to respect it. Ole Miss backed their safetys off and started respecting the pass once Starkel came in. Prior to that, they were walking down a safety and leaving their DBs on man. Maybe going forward we can run a balanced offense with some misdirection and actually put some points on the board and make these SEC teams respect us. That is all I am excited about. Well we are giving a shit load of freshmen reps right now, so hopefully they continue to improve. Both on the offense and defense. The defense has a ways to go as well. However scoring a TD on defense two games in a row is something to get optimistic about.
