No idea what was supposed to follow in that post but the only thing worse than going to Pop after Rio would have been staying at Rio. about 15 minutes at each one was more than enough for me. Decent talent at Green Light Social. Vodka Caprisuns are sneaky
whats the reason for Rio being so terrible? never been myself. pics from friends on FB make it look really trend. lots of 30k millionaires, imo.
Yea the crowd it draws is the problem. Lot of bros and a lot of creepy euro dudes. Girls all think they're hot shit.
A dark douche hive bumping bad house music at maximum volume and filled with people who only drink at place where they can get bottle service. The split is generally 20% sociopath stockbroker types, 20% drug dealers, 20% jersey shore douches, 20% european creeps, 10% 40 year olds trying to hit on 21 year olds in ed hardy gear, 10% girls who think they are hot shit. TLAU speaks the truth
Rio pool parties have been good to me a couple times. But in general yeah. Austin is a bar city, not a club one
Heard day drinking on weekends / those pool parties are actually fun and the only time you should ever contemplate going there. Solely because there is some incredible talent. It's just watered down with girls that are 1/4 as hot but still stuck up their ass. Not gonna lie in that 15 minutes I was there I did see probably 4 girls that I'd go broke for the pussy. Also spent about half my time there talking to a bartender that had an anna kendrick thing going on. one guy in our crew said he talked to Mia Khalifa at Dogwood last weekend. I don't follow her on Snapchat but apparently she's been sending snaps from out and about in Austin for a few weeks now and is likely living here. Per twitter she was bartending at Yellow Rose recently.
I get to Austin in just over a week I've found an apartment on Rio Grande and 14th downtown (conveniently close to the business school). Any thoughts on the area? Obviously I'll be exploring lots of Austin but do you guys have any suggestions for food/bars very close by? I will be using this thread as a bible the next few months.
Welcome! Yeah, that's a pretty choice spot. When it's not 110 degrees, that's an easy walk to West 6th, or a minute drive.
Yeah that's a great location for you. You'll be right in the heart of all the action downtown. Are you doing MBA program?
Yeah I'm starting the full-time MBA program so I'll be in Austin for at least the next two years. I am definitely planning to do a fair amount of walking/biking but I'm also going to get a car as soon as I get back stateside. I doubt I'll use it much but I want to have the option to easily go further afield to explore Austin's nature, etc.
sister-in-law's younger sister moved out here after college. totaled her car 2 months in and got a bike. lived a little north of Mt Bonnell I think around NW Hills and said she never had a problem with the full-crunchy bike life. apparently there is an elaborate maze of trails that get you damn near everywhere. My grundle couldn't handle that in the summer. about 3/4 mile away from me. the whole foods empire is your friend
Congrats that's awesome. I'm starting the part-time evening MBA program in January. I hear they will have the new graduate business building completed by Fall of 2017.
Congrats back at you. How exciting, my first TMB IRL experience. Side note - I just downloaded Hinge and set Austin as my location. Oh my.
anyone gonna be in san marvelous this weekend for float fest? don't know if I'm making it to the actual concerts but will be at the square tomorrow night and late night saturday with a group of ~30. rented out the "Four-O" ranch house it's pretty badass. Another group got a couple hotel rooms together. Rolling Deep into the square. 99% chance that equals Vodka Street > Rooftop
the actual fest is just a ~2-3 stage setup next to where you exit the river down there after floating. lineup is pretty good. the float itself is fun as hell because it is gonna draw a great number of sluts whose only goal is to get wasted in 4 hours on a tube. and going out in SM friday/saturday night should be packed with talent.
buddy that's staying with us last night/tonight told me about this pokestop at our apartment: name The Monarch Fountain We were drinking on the balcony for a while and would see lots of random people on their phones walking down the sidewalk, hand a quick right and check out the fountain, and then be on their way. strange stuff
anyone ever gone to one of the free sunday night symphonies at the long center? thinking about trying it out for a cheese dick date spot
niiiiiiiiiiiice. real good beers and it looks like they're gonna have a tight setup with music and all that good stuff. will visit. had our monthly foodtruck taster Wholly Cow last week. No idea they had a truck and cannot fucking find where it's posted up at on a regular basis. If downtown, that's trouble for me.
I've been, they are actually pretty fun. Just bring wine and snacks and you get an amazing view of DT.
invite sent. chick is cool and would eat some edibles with me and we bought 3 bottles of prosseco on sunday night before passing out from taking ~9 shots of tequila between dogwood, steam punk, and green light sunday afternoon. tickets go on sale tomorrow for Cherub 10/21 and Danny Brown 10/23. Would feel like death at work on monday but will be going to both of these.
experienced my first ever country concert @ blues on the green last week was one of 8 black people among 25,000
Just over 24 hours in Austin so far. Big big fan I just crushed some Torchy's tacos. Fuck this heat though.
Walked to shady grove / baby a's at 7:15. Shirt looked like I ran through a sprinkler. Pretty much got to have a frozen marg to be outside sitting around sweating balls in late afternoon.
I read something about that, but it has pretty bad ratings on google play, so I figured there must be something else people use.
Basically have that (have not tried personally but have gotten picked up in a couple), Fare - works for me, RideAustin I think is online now. And then good ole cabs But I swear once a month when at some event I get a card with a first time user referral code for an app I don't have. May be more than I know of and listed
