It was so much worse than I thought. These hoes sucked. They wanted to go to Rio it was (surprise surprise) douchey as fuck. My director got plastered and tried to fuck both of them. He did not succeed. I put him in a cab at 1230, told this chunky asian chick that he had been hollering at that I was out. She asked, and I quote here, if I was "even going to buy them some late night food?" I laughed and swerved
I didnt even know what rio is, but their website wasnt even done loading before I knew I will never step foot in that place http://rio-austin.com/
Its the douchiest shit I have ever seen. There is a wall on the way in painted to look like Drake's last album cover but it says "If your girl is Rio its too late"
it really is awful. guy I work with from NYC had a couple of his NYC bros come in town and they insisted on going to a "club with good house music and bottle service." of course they landed on Rio as the destination. $400 for 2 bottles of Titos and a sectional sofa for the night. didn't take 20 minutes before a hoard of 6s that thought their shit didn't stink had drank all the vodka (our group of ~6 had 1 drink each) and were just taking up space on the couches. Was middle school dance style because none of us knew who the fuck they were and they were too stuck up their own asses to even attempt to say hey thanks for letting us hang out and drink your booze. Spent at least an hour in the corner away from the dance floor watching my buddy play online blackjack on his phone drunk as hell winning $16,000. Head and shoulders better than anything else that was happening in that bar. Was my first time going there and won't ever go back
Only reason we ended up there instead of somewhere marginally better but similar - concrete cowboy - is because Kingsbury had every booth in the fucking bar rented out for the night for his friends and he wasn't even there.
Taco Deli is tough to beat. may sound weird and I was skeptical AF when I heard but their creamy mashed potatoes are the absolute bomb on a breakfast taco. Normal order: Otto Migas add Chorizo Chicken, Egg, Potato, Tomato build your own Torchys Jack of Clubs, Ranch Hand and Wrangler are also excellent but 3 would put you back in the bed. Jack of clubs and wrangler would be a solid combo call ahead at both places to avoid a ~20 minute wait Normal tex mex places have them too but just my opinion these two spots are built for breakfast tacos and do a better job of it
Just walked into taco deli on a whim one saturday morning. Created 2 of my own tacos. Drove back home...took a bite My taste buds reached blastoff. I say goddamn...I might go back tomorrow morning.
aware, i guess ill defend rio because that rooftop pool area has been good to me (well its closed now). smoking hot chickks up there. Yes its douchey af. No lie. fukk that, you shouldve sent em on their way
I'm not so Austin as to dismiss everything cause it's not "authentic Austin" but, yeah, Rio can take that BS back to Dallas. Madeon tonight
How much did you pay? I'm just always amazed at the market there. When I lived there (06-08), rent had double in my apt. since 1998. I was in Hyde Park, so no poor neighborhood. Even back then, my mentor bought over on Jeff Davis between Burnet and Lamar for like 250k for a 3br/2ba double house on a single lot.
325 for a 2/2 condo built in 2012. Houses run 400+ around there now for the most part if you want a 3 br. It's actually pretty tough to find a nice 3 br house under 450-500 in central Austin.
I live a couple blocks over (closer to hyde park) and def cannot afford a house over here. even the shacks untouched since the original construction are like 375+. Considering going the condo or duplex route for my first place.
Allandale is pretty nuts price wise. The house im renting would go for 700 I would guess just based on what I see online. It probably needs 40k worth of work done to it too. It's definitely not that nice or updated but it's a big lot.
Going down with a group of 10ish in a few weeks. Can't wait. And I'm looking forward to reading this thread for ideas
media vendors are throwing sxsw events left and right, and they are inviting my work team to more than a few Kind of leery to attend with co workers
I roll solo at SXSW partially because of this. I'll network and job shop up until about 11 pm, after that it's game on. The last few years, my company party was the Fader Fort preview, so it was easy to blend in. This year, we're doing a smaller thing where I'll have to actually be on good behavior :-/
Austin Music Hall will indeed be around for SXSW, so big shows there. I bet Tidal does a big show. I bet Kanye shows up, cause, well, he shows up almost every year. Pandora night shows (I.e. Badges and wristbands) announced: http://music.mxdwn.com/2016/02/10/n...-den-initial-lineup-announced-ft-troye-sivan/ Big fan of the venue. Always well run and minimally ratchet. Luck Banquet - the Willie Nelson one-day festival at his ranch - are putting tickets on sale at random times. Monitor their social media...I'd put an alert on for their Twitter feed, cause tickets sell out in minutes. It's an amazing time. Went last year when it was the Heartbreaker's Banquet.
I'm thinking about volunteering for the Luck Reunion, help park cars for a couple hours or something, just to get in Havent had any 'luck' getting tickets from the random emails and posts as they seem to go out when I am not in front of the computer
time of year always pisses me off that I'm in public accounting because i get to do so little of SXSW. hopefully my last tax season though and then getting into SaaS sales in May with my roommates sales team.
saw this posted on FB. Definitely will be doing it at some point this spring. For some reason I've never made it out to any of these places. Just do the greenbelt http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/texas/best-road-trip-tx/ Spoiler The Best Texas Hill Country Road Trip You’ll Ever Take Alright, Texans – summer is fast approaching, and we’re ready. I’m sure you are, too, because with all the outdoorsy activities to do here, it’s easily the favorite season of most who live here. No summer is complete without a road trip, and it’s never too early to start planning. But here’s the kicker – you don’t have to lift a finger. We’ve done all the dirty work for you! From hiking to tubing to cliff jumping, we’ve highlighted all of the best, must-do attractions of the Texas hill country. I won’t say it’s the most beautiful area of the state because all of Texas is breathtaking in different respective ways, but I think we can all agree that it’s at least the area most dense with nature activities. The entire drive is 189 miles – that’s 4 hours, 9 minutes, plus the time spent enjoying the beautiful nature the Lone Star State has to offer. Here is the best Texas hill country road trip you’ll ever take, all created by us just for you. We’ve got the google map right here with the exact directions and destinations. 1. Jacob’s Well We're starting off our trip at Jacob's Well, arguably the most famous swimming hole in Texas. Spend an hour or so in the water, maybe daring to swim over the well in hopes it won't suck you in and pull you down to its darkest depths. If you're really feeling adventurous, a few of the rocks above the well are positioned just right for cliff diving - if your jump is just right, that is. 2. Hamilton Pool Drive about 30 minutes and find yourself at Hamilton Pool Natural Preserve, a mystical grotto that you simply can't go without seeing if you live in Texas. There's a short hike from your car to the pool, but when you turn the final corner and this scene unfolds before your eyes, you'd be willing to hike up Mt. Everest if that's what it took to see it. 3. Enchanted Rock Next stop - Fredericksburg! You're probably pretty worn out by now from all the swimming, so the fact that the drive here is about an hour and a half is a blessing in disguise. And it's no boring drive, either - the road is lined with bluebonnets as far as the eye can see. Once you get to Enchanted Rock, you'll be amazed by its sheer, magnificent beauty and intrigued by the ancient secrets it harbors, like cave drawings depicting the magical glows and groaning noises apparently produced by the rock in the dark of night. 5. Natural Bridge Caverns Your legs will be begging for a break after the challenging (but so worth it) hike at Enchanted Rock, so use the 90 minute drive to New Braunfels to gain as much strength back as possible! You'll need it for our next activity: cave exploration! The Natural Bridge caverns are one of several cave systems in Texas, and they're absolutely breathtaking. A tour guide will lead you through different rooms, some nearly as big as football stadiums. If you're feeling up to it, you can go on the Adventure Tour that will really have you feeling like an expert. You'll put on a hardhat, gloves, and a harness, practicing rappelling, climbing, and squeezing through the tiniest passageways imaginable. Whatever you choose, experiencing one of Texas's greatest underground wonders will leave you in awe. 6. Comal River tubing! It can get pretty stuffy down in the caves, so head right on over to Landa Falls and rent a tube (or toob, I should say) for a few hours. Put your feet up, close your eyes, hear the rustle of the leaves overhead, and let the river gently carry you along while you unwind after all the hiking and swimming you've done throughout the day. 7. Last stop – dinner at the Gristmill New Braunfels and Gruene are practically the same place, so it would be a tragedy to forgo the short drive to the historic Gristmill. You're bound to be hungry after all that exercise, so a delicious beef tenderloin sandwich will hit the spot for sure. Enjoy your meal while looking out at the nearby river and feel content, knowing your day was well spent seeing all the best sights of the Texas hill country. Did you know all these amazing places could be linked together so easily? It’s like they were naturally made to be woven into a single-day road trip. Stay tuned, Texas – I realize our state is humongous, so this is part of a series of road trip posts, each highlighting a different area of the state. Get excited! If the hill country is a bit out of reach for you to make a trip to, I’ll be featuring places near you soon! Probably would skip tubing the Comal.
also... any experts have a suggestion here? Girl I met from Cali is all about some hiking. Said the places she's been here so far are boring. Asked her what kind of hike she was looking for and got "I'd enjoy some altitude something a little strenuous!" help plz
I always hike the greenbelt trail starting at Barton Springs and ending at the top of Mt. Bonnel. That last quarter mile or so is a bitch and definitely has some climb to it especially after you've gone 8 miles before that. Still, its not consistently difficult. Enchanted Rock might be a good call
I wouldn't call enchanted rock strenuous, but it's a cool hike with great views. And there are multiple hiking options around the park.
If she wanted altitude, she shouldn't have come to Texas. That said, I really enjoy taking trips to Colorado Bend State Park. There are plenty of trails, a lot of spots off of the trail to swim or at least take your shoes off and wade. There's also a 65 foot waterfall. You're still not looking at anything overly strenuous. Parts of it might be semi-difficult. If this is someone you've been dating and want to make a legit trip out of it, go to Big Bend and hike the outer loop. That should pipe her down on wanting something difficult. Of course, you're looking at a minimum of a 3 day weekend there.
Another thing to note. If she needs it to be more strenuous, try throwing a pack on. Its great exercise and really works out different areas of your legs if you're moving around on trails a lot. It can be solid cardio if you move at a reasonable pace. Get a comfortable pack and throw 30-60 lbs worth of shit in it. She'll feel great when shes done.
oh no we're just discussing potential tinder dates... but i went out with a girl last night / last week that went to big bend the last week in january and hung out with a nudist commune for a day.
Will be in Austin Sat-Mon with my wife to see her mom who is there for a conference....Anything I need to do? Best brewery with tasting room? Best places to eat that arent crazy expensive? Anything going on this weekend that we should check out? Gracias! Im in Fort Worth so preferably places local to Austin and not chainish.
Not too expensive - Uchiko is always a good eating experience. Would have to check FB I know this time of year there's random shit every weekend. But to start a night off Saturday I would get reservations to Midnight Cowboy. Real clean little date spot. Get 2 hours for 2-3 drinks each and then out for the night. Weather lately has been perfect for a Rainey street brunch Sunday. I'm sure bangers would be packed but worth it its its mid-70s again
