Did the cop not have a car of his own? I with Whammy Business reaching into the car to grab someone's keys is not a smart idea. I would rather pursuit a suspect rather than get caught in the suspect car as he takes off.
my question about why he did what he did was rhetorical. it made no sense to me. if he didn't have a DL fuck it go to jail for a day get your car towed but be alive. not start your car and attempt to flee. Only reason I brought up the murder thing is because I don't think cops should not just let people flee. My point was simple the cop didn't know who this cat was. He couldn't just let him flee. I think saying this cop just shot him over a traffic stop ( like some have implied) is disingenuous . the cop in the video never attempted to dive into the car. not sure what you even brought that up. your let him flee point is stupid.
whammy business said "let him go. you'll catch him later" that is what I called stupid. that is why I said what if later you learn he was wanted for murder. you can't just let people flee. that is the same stupid argument made in the Micheal Brown case.
What video are you watching? His left arm is in the cabin of the car. He is literally reaching for the keys when the shot is fired.
It looked like he put his hand on the door to get out or something to me. Did he drive off after being shot in the head?
Well if he bolts you pursuit him, but I still would not suggest reaching into the car, it just doesn't seem like it's worth the risk.
you're both correct it appears he reaches in after the guy starts the car. so his initial reaction was to stop the guy from fleeing. it seemed like the door was open. the driver tried to close the door then turned on the car. the cop reaches in then shots. the guy died instantly but "fell forward" and hit the gas that is why the car moved.
I agree that reaching in is not a good idea. I just don't think you let him go and hope you catch him later. Would it make a difference to you if the cop said "I felt my life was in danger when he turned the car on. I felt he was going to run me over"? what's the cops story?
So basically the officer's whole story is shit because the corpse is what drove off and was "dragging" him when he fired.
Cars don't accelerate in directions perpendicular to the wheels very well. Standing beside the car is usually an effective way to prevent being run over.
"I almost got ran over by the car. He took off on me," the officer says. "I discharged one round, struck the man in the head." In a press conference describing the July 19 shooting, Cincinnati police said there had been a struggle during the traffic stop, but didn't mention anything about the officer reporting he'd been dragged. "There was a struggle at the door with Mr. Dubose in the vehicle and the officer outside the vehicle, and the vehicle sped away," Cincinnati police Lt. Col. James Whalen told reporters. Police say Tensing fatally shot Samuel Dubose, 43, on Sunday after a struggle at a traffic stop over a missing license tag. Dubose was driving away when Tensing shot him, police said. Tensing fired a single shot, hitting the driver in the head as he attempted to flee. Police said the car rolled about a block before crashing.
this video looks at lot worse. I guess maybe because it appears clearer. I still don't think he should have attempted to start the car ****. ****edit I was going to delete that last sentence because it appears I am justifying the cops actions. I am not.
The police report was way off. At one point the officer stated that he was hit by the door. They also tried to make seem like the guy hand him a bottle of alcohol out of the clear blue.
The university and a lot of businesses around campus closed early today. Hopefully nothing turns violent at the rally tonight. Thankfully there's a chance of rain so hopefully that will help keep the knuckleheads away
The prosecutor (Joe Deters) is a republican who is up for reelection soon. It's pretty clear by his flamboyant comments on this that he is clearly pandering for votes.
Yeah, it's just another person making a terrible choice that resulted in his death. Not saying cops should shoot people, but there's certain choices one can make that will raise the chances of that happening. It's time we hold those people accountable too.
I used to be pretty anti-police but at this point I feel bad for them. I don't know why anyone would want to be one these days.
Shouldn't you treat anyone with a gun like a wild bear? I mean, That person has the ability to kill you pretty instantly.
I like to assume that most adults that have guns also have human brains and aren't just simple stimulus-response creatures that kill what they don't understand.
I don't think that would even be an issue in this case. They guy was being weird and had a bottle of gin by him in the car. A field sobriety test would have been a perfectly reasonable next step.
Right, but the cop has to say "Get out so I can check for weapons" right? He can't just say "Get the fuck bc I'm god and I told you to peasant" right?
Didn't he say it was a bottle of air fresher? Or did he say it was closed? Thought he told the cop to smell it.
