I feel bad for the good ones that do their job the right way, which is probably over 95% of them. Their job is infinitely harder than it was a few years ago.
Also apparently there are people that don't take their keys out of the ignition and put them on the dash and put both hands on top of the steering wheel. Like how do people not know to do this?
I never take my key out of the ignition. I put my hands on the steering wheel, turn on my dome light and lower my back windows (because they're tinted). I've been lucky to get a warning, have not been issued summons yet.
I was told by a cop that cops hate when they walk up to a car they've pulled over and the occupants are digging through their car to find registrations and shit. If pulled over you should turn on your dome light, roll your window down, put both hands of the steering wheel, and patiently wait. Note that doing things like running, starting your car and attempting to flee, being combative, being a smart ass, getting physical with the officer, and so on, will increase the likelihood of being shot by the officer. Have cops shot people who were calmly sitting in their car with their hands on the wheel? Probably. But if you want to increase your odds of not getting shot, this is your best option.
Yeah I don't think it's absolutely necessary but anything I can do to put the officer's mind at ease, I'm going to do.
The cop obviously was wrong on this instance, but it's sad how people like oops believe the cop went into work that day to kill a black guy.
No clue, but I remember when I went to Europe in 2000 that they told us, especially in England, not to fuck around with the cops because they will straight up fuck you up with their club and there's not much you can do about it especially if you're a tourist.
You don't have to unless they ask and you don't have to have a CCP anymore in Arkansas to have a gun on you so they'll probably ask right away since they probably have to assume that you may have one on you. As far as I can remember they've always asked if I have any guns, weapons, drugs or alcohol on me and if they look around they're not going to find any. I never did so they'll just kind of glance around and then get into the license, registration, that stuff. I've had 1 or 2 make me get out so they could look around. They looked through my glove box and all under the seats and everything. 1 made me get out while he wrote me a ticket because he was concerned I might flee because I have that on my record. I remember back in the day hearing that if you have your CCP then it'll show that you do when they run your license and then they may come ask you if you have it on you. No clue if that's true or not though.
Their job is the same. If being recorded means they should shoot less, then that's a good thing not harder. It's pretty clear that fuck ups are gonna fuck up and good cops are gonna be good cops. All this does is get rid of the fucked up ones.
Why is that? Bc they can't lie and cover up their poor decisions and brutal behavior as much as they could in the past?
Because the number of situations they go into that have become confrontational have sky rocketed. All eyes are on them all the time, that would be incredibly stressful
No because social media has people acting like retards at a remarkably high rate. All these idiots believe every dumb ass article with a bunch of made up bullshit that they read. It makes even the best cops job significantly harder
I know some do but I think it's something you've got to get special certification for over there. As in maybe a few on each shift have them and most don't. (This is just based on what I think I remember reading a while back. Could be totally wrong.)
No man, every single one is a corrupt racist asshole just looking for a reason to shoot the next black guy he encounters
Be real here. A person doing what that lunatic did (which was aggressively coming at a cop with a large knife) is going to get shot at least 90% of the time in the USA. And I'm not saying it isn't warranted based on the way American police are trained. Just think there's a better way to train them to handle such things (as shown in the video in question).
He should have been shot. Those cops were able to escape with being killed thankfully. You can't reasonably ask your officers to stop a guy swinging a knife at them without using their weapons.
These cops did use their weapons. They used pepper spray. And then they used a baton. Because, you know, there are actually other weapons to use rather than a gun. And honestly, that's part of the problem with police training in the US. Instead of a gun being the last resort in a situation, far too often it is used as the first option. That's more of the issue than racism, or anything else.
What video in which a civilian was killed has shown that civilian being more of a retard than people have been with cops for 100 years? Civilians being defensive and combative with cops is not a new revelation. Seeing cops overreact over and over again and then flat out lie and cover up their actions is the revelation.
They're talking about feeling bad for cops. You don't think there are more people with an anti cop stance when people by the hundreds are believing shit like that lady was dead in her mugshot? Hell the distribution of misinformation and flat out lies caused multiple riots because of the Ferguson shit
I'm confused and maybe missing something. What does social media have to do with how a cop disarms someone with a knife? According to the Wiki, there have been 5 killed in the past five years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_British_police_officers_killed_in_the_line_of_duty
You missed that that conversation line was a branch from watson saying he feels bad for them and doesn't understand why anyone would want to be one in the current state.
Wasn't really the perfect answer I was looking for, just summed up that social media has increased the stress of that job a lot. As far as numbers of British cops killed, what's the population there? The social makeup? Is that an even comparison?
You act like this distrust for police manifested from nothing and that's ridiculous. There are very clear examples of why that distrust has grown over the past few years and those examples come mostly from the fact that people now carry video cameras around with them and it's now far easier to spread such evidence than ever before through social media. The blanket protection offered to police by 'his word vs mine' is being lessened by those facts and now people are more aware than ever of police misconduct. Personally, I want police to have all the advantages they can when dealing with combative suspects. But I don't want them to have impunity from their actions. It just isn't in the best interest of the people of our country.
No I'm not. I'm stating that it makes it worse. It's not just police either, it's every form of gossip. Simple people falling for lies and bullshit all over the place
Yes they should have on body cameras. I mean if the cops show up to a situation in a neighborhood they have a crowd around them with as many cell phones and people constantly antagonizing them. That's incredibly stressful when you're trying to manage a situation.
Population is 64 million in the UK. Not trying to get into the whole social makeup argument or how well that comparison meshes with the USA (but feel free to if anyone wants to). We've kinda already done that in here. I just answered the question he asked.
If anything, people are now petrified of cops and most likely give them less trouble. People have seen unedited video of police murdering people for not obeying their words as gospel. In the past, people thought they could try cops and get away with it. We now know that's not the case and cops will kill you over that.
