The fact that you can't see past the personal interests of the lawful party involved and see that the only person in the video who is breaking the law is the police officer is what's frightening. He may be a douche or a prick but legally it doesn't matter if the guy has an ISIS flag flying above his house so long as he isn't breaking the law. And these guys really sound like awful, awful people. A modern day Al-Qaeda. Spoiler: CopBlock's stated objectives Cop Block is a decentralized project supported by a diverse group of individuals united by their shared goal of police accountability. Cop Block is committed to highlighting the double standard often granted to those in uniforms and with badges. We do this by raising awareness and providing support to victims of police abuse and other related institutional injustice. By documenting police actions whether they are illegal, immoral, or just a waste of time and resources, then agitating against the individuals responsible (ideally while recording and then later sharing ), we can work together towards transparency and a real impact on issues of police accountability. CopBlock.org serves as a resource for education and awareness on individual and civil rights. We encourage constructive discourse and knowledge through the dissemination of different viewpoints and tactics in order to combat both the frequent violations of civil rights and the lack of accountability in modern policing. We do not “hate cops.” We simply believe that all human beings have equal rights; no one class or group of people has any more rights than another just because of their job. The failure and inability of to realize and act on this philosophy is to the detriment of all individuals. By focusing the disinfecting light of transparency on public officials, we safeguard not only our rights but those of future generations.
Based on that MO posted above, we certainly seem to share a common goal. They're doing it on a major scale whereas I'm trying to point out hypocrisy and a lack of police accountability to a small group of seemingly ignorant college football fans on a larger college football message board. I fear the efforts that myself and others have put forth on this board and specifically in this thread will prove unfruitful. There is clearly a percentage of people that just cannot wrap their brains around what police accountability is and instead turn it into nothing more than "Y'all hate police and love criminals" drivel.
Just start small. Give a cop the finger on your way home and film his response. Hopefully your efforts will be fruitful.
Seems like very few of these stories posted in this thread meet the criteria of the officer. Most of the complaints have been from actions officers took while the officer was responding as an LEO, not as an individual.
Well the guy in the video received 50K, for his action, I would take pepper spray in the face for 50K. However I will not be flipping off any cops anytime soon.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/31/us/eye-contact-traffic-stop-ohio-police-officer/index.html What a piece of shit.
People are allowed to be dumb, as long as they do not break the law. When cops cross the line and go beyond upholding the law and performing some sort of social service to reprimand and punish dumb people, they are, ironically, breaking the law. While a cop is on the job his duty is to enforce the law. Breaking the law because you don't like what someone is doing is pretty much the exact opposite of their job. It's illegal for that cop to even pull the guy over, so everything that happens after that is horseshit.
Barves2125 post the Gilbert Flores video that was released. He literally had his hands up when he was shot. I can't bc I'm on mobile.
http://www.ksat.com/news/ksatcom-exclusive-unedited-video-of-fatal-deputy-involved-shooting Can't find an unedited one to embed. Skip to 45 seconds in if you don't want to watch the whole thing.
http://www.ksat.com/news/ksatcom-exclusive-unedited-video-of-fatal-deputy-involved-shooting looks unedited and says unedited shrug fucking fuck fuck
I think he was pointing out that there wasn't an embeddable version of that video and people would have to go to the link to see it.
They are mad someone posted video of their cops committing murder. The only unethical action was done by the cops.
They seem more upset about the video being posted than they are that they killed a guy. That shouldn't be.
And it will work. As we've seen on this board and in this thread, there will be plenty of people who will jump to defend the police and will focus on the local TV station instead of being upset with the people who killed a man with his hands up in the air.
Broadcasting a man's death for $100 has sparked threats to our deputies' lives. Let KSAT know what you think, 210-351-1269. — Bexar County Sheriff (@BexarCoSheriff) August 31, 2015
Heebs has a thread about it already. And Ark just went ahead with the justification argument because the guy allegedly beat a woman and child. It never ends.
If he hadn't made similar arguments in here before then I'd do the same. TTGator also said it and it seems obvious he means it but I've never seen him post in here.
So literally all you have is the video from a quarter mile away... And they are guilty? You sure you want to jump to that judgement so quickly? How did that work out for you on the Michael Brown case?
Nothing I said isn't factual. He had his hands up in the air and was shot and killed. As for the Michael Brown case, I don't think I said anything about it. But if there had been video of it like there is in this case then it seems like things would've been much easier for everyone involved. Now, imagine if there weren't video of this killing and it was all the word of the police vs the word of the eye witnesses (if anyone at all). See how that creates a problem?
Scrolled up and found it. Those two should be tried for 2nd degree murder at a minimum. To me, looks like guy had his hands up and was complying to me. I await the outcome of the investigation and assume it will be fair and charges will be brought. Doesn't fit #blacklivesmatter though.
It doesn't look good at all. But it's also from a quarter of a mile away with no audio. Seems weird that a cop would shoot a guy for no reason... I mean, I know I'm in the minority in this thread in that I don't believe cops always have the wrong intentions. I'm just saying, let's just pump the brakes a bit until the whole story comes out.
The problem is you can't make fun of Braves and beo for being full retards if you can't concede this one looks real bad.
Hypothetical. What if dude has a knife of a gun in this waistband and puts his hands up and tells the cops "you better shoot me now or I'm going to kill you"?
He actually said it didn't look good at all. Semantics would say that that is conceding that it looks real bad. Due process does mandate that the investigation ensue, followed by (hopefully) a trial and a conviction. On this one, if that does not happen, twill be mighty fucked up imho.
Saying that with hands up does not justify. You know I have been as staunch a supporter of the popo in this thread as anyone, but your hypothetical is still a stretch. If he reached for it, there would still be time to fire. if your on the Jury, and that is there defense, you let them walk with the "he told us too" defense? C'mon man. This one is fucking horrid, even with the distant video. No justification with current evidence. No expectation of more to come out. These two should be punished and help reduce the numbers (that are already pretty small) of bad cops out of the force.
I'm with you in terms of generally giving cops the benefit of the doubt, but unless he reaches for said knife, not really any grounds for discharging, imo. Subdue the guy and take him away. The video looks pretty damning.
I don't think always have wrong intentions. When I see them shoot a shirtless guy with his hands up, I feel strongly that they did wrong. Maybe they were overly nervous and fired on accident. I don't know. Doesn't matter why, though. The fact is we can clearly see them shoot a shirtless man with his hands up. Doesn't help when the police office goes on the offensive vs the news channel that posted the video. It's disgusting that they'd prefer the actions of their officers be kept from the public. If that were the case, I guarantee you this would be ruled a good shoot by the police. That's how it's always been. Now there's video and they can no longer cover up their fuckups. They'd rather cry about the exposure than fix the problem.
Yeah, it sucks to say, but if there was no video there's no doubt in my mind those officers don't get touched.
I'm pretty POed that they killed a guy, but the gall of a news station to pay $100 for the exclusive rights to the video, then to broadcast it, for all the world to see is just crossing the line. Before I call the department to complain about them murdering people I'm definitely calling KSAT to complain about this whole buying and broadcasting videos thing.
Can't really see his left hand. But I agree with what you're saying... I'm just saying, let it play out.
Let go through the possible things that could have been said that warrant shooting a guy with his hands up 20 feet away from you. "I'm about to shoot you with my laser beam eyes!" that all I got..... And to be clear, they may not have had the wrong intentions, they may have made a bad decision. I don't think all cops are necessarily evil, even cops who shoot people. They could have made a poor choice and it resulted in someone dying. But they are still responsible for that choice and should suffer the consequences.
