Fuck. So jealous. So not sure I have posted much about it but I paid off my truck last year and started saving and bought an old jeep. Thinking about driving it across country and staying at Yosemite. The company I work for is based in San Francisco. The CEO is a younger guy and wants me to do it and bring my bike. Wants me to bring it so we can ride San Fran and ride across the Golden Gate. Seriously trying to find a way to talk myself out of this. I work remotely. So all I need is an internet connection. That is all I have to somewhat measure up to your option to ride the water. If I do it I may come and stay in LA to visit a friend and see if we can go do that ride.
Went on a solo ride this morning and kept in the saddle until I couldn't keep in the saddle anymore. Pretty sure I am most impressed with my average heart rate on this ride. recovery time should be just over 24 hours so I can get a ride in tomorrow evening weather permitting.
big crash right in front of me today. stayed behind with the guy until his wife came....on my way home I had a flat.
trying to ramp up my mileage in a new town. had to do the short route group ride this morning and got yelled at for pulling at 22mph for being too fast. really pissed me off. Got an ironman in 5 weeks (lol- i'll cruise to finish before midnight, haven't trained enough) and then ill spend winter gearing up for spring crits.
It's starting to cool down up north here, and I'm being reminded how much I dislike riding below like 60 degrees. Seems like the cold always brings wind too.
I go through those times too when I can't get out much or at all and I see peeps putting on miles. it's cyclical. you'll get there.
I hate riding with groups. You get the benefit of the slipstream and extra motivation but to me that does surpass the disadvantages. Anytime I ride with a group they are not in sync with my goals. Also, much more stressful to me. Always being on my toes wondering if the whole peleton is going to wipe out at any moment. I prefer solo up to about 5 peeps.
to me, that falls in line with the goal thing. one day I will want to work on heart rate, cadence and miles. Everyone is pulling in turn on a 30 mile sprint. oh great, I'll just see myself out the back. another day, I want to burn hard and fast. Seems this is the day everyone wants to go the distance. Stop yelling at me, I'm not pulling hard, I'm leaving your asses. It works both ways and I have never found a group I sync with.
I am standoffish. That's is why I like cycling and running both physical activities I can do by myself. Put on my headphones and go away.
Yeah I bet its hard as shit to find someone close to your own capabilities, plus with similar training.
if the ride is advertised a certain pace, don't complain when its running at that pace. if you get to the front and can't pull at the advertised pace, get off the front. edit: ^^ that makes me look like a dick. If I show up for an A group ride advertised at 27+, I know I'm gonna suck wheel most of the ride, do short pulls only. I'm not gonna show up and complain that its too fast or get to the front and pull at 24.
this. Every "enthusiast" level cyclist should learn to confidently ride in a group, this includes the etiquette that goes along with it. also don't come to the ride in a tri bike.
Oh gotcha. Never experienced either of those as if they are going slower than I need to ride on that day I get down the road and if they are going faster than I want I slip off the back and get my ride in.
tri bikes- yes. absolutely no place in a group ride unless its specifically a tri bike group. and i own a tri bike.
totes smoked a squirrel tonight. glad the squirrel wasn't a fraction of a second slower or it would have went in my spokes. happened right by a family and I can still hear the little girls screaming.
Been slacking big time lately. Cracked my ribs about a month ago (again) doing something stupid (again) so was off the bike for a few weeks. It's been tough getting back into it. Did a couple of 30 milers last weekend and basically jack shit this weekend (20 easy miles yesterday). A couple of days of bike commuting during the past couple of weeks. What I need to do is take a couple of days off of work and get out and do some longish rides to get my legs moving again.

I think I'm about to buy a Smart Trainer + a Zwift subscription. Probably a Tacx Neo. $1200, but the idea of indoor rides not completely sucking all winter, to the point where I just don't ride, sounds appealing about right now.
good luck. keep your heart rate down on day 1, if you lactate your legs the rest of the ride will suck donkey dong.
Anyone from outside of the state of Iowa here done RAGBRAI? Interested to hear your thoughts from a different perspective.
oh, and I finally found a group that was good to ride with. Groups are great if they are at the right pace but can be an ass-kicking if you are faster or slower. Really made the wind this morning manageable. exchanged numbers and such so hopefully will be doing a weekly group ride with them but most of my rides will still be solo to 3 peeps.
I generally prefer to ride solo. Less car issues and I can go whatever pace I want. I tried riding with the MSU triathlon team last week (not on purpose, just came up to them while riding), and it was kinda annoying. They went pretty slow, but anytime I tried to just ride off on my own, three hardos would paceline off the front of their group until they passed me. I was just like alright whatever, so I sat in with the group, and then took monster digs on the front to put everyone in pain lol. However, my smart trainer is coming next week, and it looks like there are group rides on Zwift. So I'm gonna be going on hella virtual group rides all winter .
The greatest thing about riding solo is that when you do ride with a group you can absolutely shred people when it is your time to pull.
Ha! Yeah I've been riding a trainer. Don't always upload those. Did a quick ride this morning. Had a baby a couple weeks ago so that's put a strain on the biking. I've got an ironman on Saturday and so I'll be back to normal in 2-3 weeks.
I've got a kickr and really enjoy it. I tend to do trainerroad over zwift. If I'm on the trainer I want to make sure I'm shredding myself.
