So I think I'm going to make the jump to clip ins. Can I use the same shoe/pedal type for my mnt bike as my road bike?
legs are definitely feeling some type of way today. also considering getting a camelpak for my longer rides, that way i can have water in my pak & electrolyes in my bottles and cut down on stops to refill.
I'm getting back on the saddle starting this week. I used to log 100+ miles a week, but becoming a "dad" has really cut into my riding time. I used to have a ton of riding options living close to downtown Jax, with the ability to ride the bridges adding difficulty. Riding options really suck at the beach
I have an old frame that is currently set up as a fixie that I want to convert back to a roadie so I can go on long treks around the city. My other fixie is great for quick sprints ut you wear out super fast with all these hills in denver
Shimano Ultegra 6800 11-Speed Groupset $549 http://slickdeals.net/f/7839791-shimano-ultegra-6800-groupset-oem-554-21-free-shipping
Deal ended on Monday if I'm reading that right. (I buy stuff from Merlin all the time... you can still get 6800 for $600, and 5800 for $380... which is ridiculously inexpensive.) Here's a good place to buy wheelsets (and they sell campy stuff for quite a good price): http://www.velomine.com/index.php?main_page=index
it shows you all the people (who were running / cycling and on strava) you passed when you were out cycling or running and it shows you where and when you passed them and their route. The stalker possibilities are endless. http://labs.strava.com/flyby/
I've gotten into biking over the past year, but just been taking out a cheap trek bike I've had on the local silver comet trail which is awesome... But I'm really starting to enjoy it and am ready to buy a road bike. Anyone have a good resource to do some research? Not trying to break the bank on my first ride, but would like something decent
IMO going to Local bike shop is the best. They usually want your business and you can get a great fit and they'll usually cut you some deals on accessories/parts. Also I like supporting the local shops.
was this for me? I think this is what I am gong to need in the future. I have some other bills to pay off before i invest into a bike
Out on bikes yesterday drinking. Damn rear tire blowout, sounded like a gun shot. Had to ride home, very drunk and down some steep hills on a scetch flat tire
got 42 in this afternoon before the skies darkened and I headed home. 17.3 pace which might be my best ride this year considering the wind today. I know I've been faster but with less effort.
So what helmet and bike shorts are a good value? Also now that I have mapmyride, I have to stop looking at a.tramp's workout posts. They just make me feel inadequate.
The lack of non-road trails isn't helping me. My two rides so far have both been on my street, which is half a mile. The slowing down to turn around isn't fun. Going to try out a park tomorrow.
to me pearl izumi is a great value. everything i bought from them 5+ years ago is still in use and that is how i measure value. also, don't worry about my workouts, ride your own race. hopefully I am an inspiration of sorts to people. before Christmas, I was in the worst shape of my life, 5'10" and 229 @ 38 years old. I made a commitment to myself to get back in shape and stuck with it. I am down to 202 but not at my goal yet and I can't wait to see the results I have once I get there, it is what keeps me going. In short, do you and we are here to encourage and assist.
Second this. I will advocate bibs > bike shorts however. They cost a little more but they're fantastic. I got mine from Nashbar when they were running a sale for $43 shipped.
I was being chased by a dog on that 4th mile, so I had to stop so its owner could get it. Second time in three rides. I didn't know "dog chasing bikes" was a real thing. Edit: My bad on that image being so huge. Did it on my phone and had no idea it was so large.
55 miler on Saturday... which... the sun got me a little. Happens every year, temps get above 80, out in full sun for a few hours and I sweat out my electrolytes. 40 miler with the gf yesterday. All in all a great weekend to be out on a bike.
probably the cheapest one that fits your head. more expensive helmets are lighter and nicer (and sometimes cooler in the summer), but don't necessarily protect your brain any better. Relevant in a couple of years: http://www.beam.vt.edu/helmet/pdf/10YearPlan.pdf
got in 18 this afternoon to make up for my ride being cut short yesterday. going to try and hit it again tomorrow because our 10 day forecast is calling for rain from Wednesday on.
I tried to ride this afternoon but couldn't stand to be in the saddle, still really sore from Saturday. Hopefully tomorrow
Higher cost =/= more protection. They all meet the same safety standard. Higher cost = lighter and more breathable.
For me, shorts tend to move around and its hard to keep the pad positioned perfectly. They also tend to slide down a bit unless the bamd is super tight on my waist. Bibs keep everything in place and don't strangle your waist.
Fair. I haven't researched bike helmets but I know hockey helmets can vary widely in how well they protect your head.
So a police officer pulled me over during my ride yesterday. He'd noticed that my seat was too low, which made my pedaling incredibly inefficient. This is today's ride, having raised my seat up a couple inches: Pretty fucking thrilled at the 1.3 mph increase as well as the consistency.
I bought this bike last Thursday. I got a shipping notice saying my bike was shipped on Friday but UPS didn't have any updates on it other than saying "Billing information received". I just got an email from BikesDirect saying that the bike I ordered is out of stock and they will refund my money. This blows.
best ride of the year so far this morning. finally met up with someone on the route this morning that pushed me. we rode pretty much side by side until around mile 40 when I fell off the pace. I'd like to blame the fact that my derailer started dropping me down on the small chainring and even throwing the chain all together on hills (dammit I just had a tune up and spent money on new chain, some cables and the like) but truth is I was fading anyways. Spoiler: workout deets anyone care to guess what mile was slightly downhill & straight? just as I was about to go into my house after my ride, a neighbor was heading out for a 14 mile ride and he convinced me to tag along. it was a nice cool down. now for the love of god, someone beer me
