Asia can't host 2 in a row, can they? Thought there were rules against the same federation hosting 2 in a row...
You're right, Russia is Europe. But they have 2018, not 2022. Qatar gets 2022 (Asia) so China/Australia/other Asian fucks can't get 2026.
He thought that the guy was saying Russia then Qatar was Asia hosting twice in a row, thus prompting him to say Russia is Europe.
This is bringing up memories of a morning two Decembers ago. I had just be bent over by a grad school final and then I found out Qatar won the bid 5 minutes afterward. I almost lost it.
I'd guess 2030. I think it almost HAS to go to North America for 2026. 32 years is a LONG ass wait after Mexico hosted 2 in a 16 year span, then the US got to host 8 years after that. Today, 8 years would be a fairly quick turn-around for Europe after Russia. Typically, they've gotten it every other World Cup, but Germany to Russia will be the longest wait (12 years) since its inception with the exception of the 2 Cups cancelled during WWII. With the other continents getting their shit together, I think it makes sense to spread those out a little more and share in the wealth. Asia will have waited 20 years between Korea/Japan and Qatar. South America is going 36 years without one. Basically, fuck Europe.
my fault, I took what the guy said about good luck against China at face value and assumed that China was front runner. Europe will get one of 2026 and 2030. Seems like North America should get one since Asia (twice) and South America would have had world cups since USA '94.
The idea was thrown about, back when we were naive enough to believe that FIFA would pick the best bids for 2018/2022, that they wouldn't award 2022 to one of the Asian bids so China could step in and bid for 2026. Made sense at the time, then FIFA gave everyone the middle finger and picked the 2 most corrupt/shitty bids they could just to show us Anglos(US and UK especially) that they can do whatever they want.
Basically, FIFA is on a hot streak of picking places I have no desire to visit. Poland/Ukraine? No thanks. Brazil? Probably not. Russia? Absolutely not. Qatar?
Concacaf wont have hosted since 94, meaning by 2026 they will be on a 32 year drought. For an area that is in need of growing the sport FIFA turning its back on the area isnt helping. If the US doesnt get it in 2026 it probably wont be for another 16-20 more years which is fucking ridiculous. Oh yeah, fuck Canada
Brazil would be awesome to visit, but not too familiar with many of the cities outside of Sao Paulo and Rio. I can definitely see the US getting drawn into a group that will be in the far north and some other shitty place where the logistics suck ass.
One my GF's best friends is Brazilian and married to a guy who just moved from Brazil. Really hoping to play that avenue up in two summers for a place to stay.
I would but Delta might not exist in 2026 though I bet even if they did, they still wouldnt take my skymiles this far in advance
the teams that have to play in Manaus are going to get screwed. I'd be willing to bet that however the tournament is set up that Brazil won't have to play there.
It could work in the Caribbean. Between Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico there can be enough sites. Throw in Miami for the final and call it a day.
Throw them in a qualifying tournament and winner gets an auto spot. The 2nd spot plays the winner of the OFC.
imo 2026 will go to a CONCACAF nation. 2030 is a little harder to predict. I cant imagine it not going to europe, but Uruguay-Argentina are bidding for 2030. I think they are a legit threat since it will be the 100 year anniversary of the 1930 World cup which Uruguay hosted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argentina–Uruguay_2030_FIFA_World_Cup_bid
Yeah, China is getting 2026 and Uruguay-Argentina is getting 2030. Best case for the US is 2034 or 2038.
That rule was only around since 06, and said that it would have to go to every confederation once in a cycle. You still have to wait two world cups if your confederation hosted one.
lol, like Fifa plays by the rules. Shits going to the highest bidder. And by bidder, i mean sealed envelopes.
Gonna be a lot harder to do that now that the head of every nation votes on the host instead of just the FIFA executives.
Can't wait for it to be in Uru/Arg. Such an awesome place to visit, and having relatives there will make it cheap. Hell, my parents might actually be living there by that time. Shit, I just realized that I'll be 53/54 for the 2030 WC. That's fucking depressing.
we had the u20s in 2007... got to see argentina twice with maxi moralez, aguero, romero, di maria, etc. also got to see the brasil/usa game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmExheyGwKs
one of the best games i've ever seen (live or on tv)... didn't sit down or stop yelling the entire match
