Someone has hacked into microsoft's accounts and picked up Emails and passwords. It looks like they buy points on the person's accounts then sell it off. I just started getting random emails about buying points and checked my account.

The girl I talked to said there's a correlation between FIFA and the hacked accounts. :(

Now my account is frozen for 25 days, and I have to create a temporary one if i want to play anything.

Xbox Live users suffering hacked accounts, FIFA 11 and 12purchases (Updated with Microsoft's response)

By Ben Kuchera | Published 15 days ago

Update: Microsoft has sent us the following statement:
“We do not have any evidence the Xbox LIVE service has been compromised. We take the security of our service seriously and work on an ongoing basis to improve it against evolving threats. However, a limited number of members have contacted us regarding unauthorized access to their accounts by outside individuals. We are working with our impacted members directly to resolve any unauthorized changes to their accounts. As always, we highly recommend our members follow the Xbox LIVE Account Security guidance provided at www.xbox.com/security to protect your account.”
This seems to be a rather amazing response, considering the amount of people who have contacted us with their own experiences since this story has been published. The original story begins below.
Ars Technica has received a number of reports from Xbox Live customers complaining about hacked accounts, unauthorized purchases, and a slow response from Microsoft itself. The pattern is weirdly specific: gamers notice that unauthorized purchases have been made using their credit card information or existing points, andFIFA Soccer 11 or 12 has been played on their account.
"Yesterday, my live account got hijacked and charged just over $100. Specifically, two large purchases of points followed by the download of FIFA 12, which had 2 achievements unlocked for the game, and every MS point spent on Gold Premium Packs and DLC," one reader wrote. His Xbox was turned off, and he learned of the breach from confirmation e-mails sent to his workplace.
Another gamer blogged about his account being breached:

"Sure enough, all of the Microsoft points that were stored in my XBL account had been spent on in game items for FIFA 11(I don’t own that game… hell, I don’t even like soccer video games) and whoever spent my MS points had then tried to purchase more. Presumably, when that purchase failed, they abandoned my account and went on to steal from some other unsuspecting gamer."
These online reports are becoming increasingly common, and Microsoft's response has been to lock down affected accounts for 25 days while the company investigates the charges. We've e-mailed Microsoft for comment, and have yet to hear back. For now, the best course of action is to keep a close eye on your account, and contact Microsoft if you see any fraudulent charges or notice FIFA-related activity in your achievement points or history.

Electronic Arts the target of hackers?

In the past few weeks we’ve heard of numerous reports where players have had their gamertags hacked, with purchases being made in games such as FIFA 11 or FIFA 12. It led us to speculate that there was a correlation for those who had the same password for both their EA account and their Xbox Live account. Now today a staff member was hacked while playing Battlefield 3, another EA game, with a similar M.O. Investigating, we hit the Twitter feeds to see what was abuzz, and we found yet another target. The EA Sports Youtube account was also hacked; someone had put up Call of Duty footage. It was quickly resolved, but it seems like further proof of EA being in someone’s crosshairs.
Electronic Arts has been rather tight lipped about the situation, and Microsoft suspends Live on any hacked accounts for investigation. Our advice? Make absolutely sure that your EA in-game account and Xbox Live account have different passwords. You may want to be selective about which games you play for right now, too. Any game that requires a separate, in-game login from your Xbox Live account should have a different password than your gamertag’s, otherwise you’re risking being hacked.

Thankfully I don't think I've ever attached a CC to my account, only bought the prepaid Live cards at the store or online.

Sorry to hear about that Bstock, got my Debit card hacked last year and they took $400 from me, luckily me being the proactive one and not BOA, I got $390 of it back. Good luck

So, I'm okay if my easportsworld email is different than my xbox live email, right? Is this problem exclusively on xbox? I think my email on my ps3 gamertag is the same as my email on my ps3 easportsworld account. If they have been hacking accounts on ps3 I need to change that one.

Your xbox account should be fine. I would change the PS3 account if you have an actual card on file with them.
